PARTICPANT INFORMATION

DAVE ANDERSON is the Executive Director of the Interscholastic Athletic Association. Anderson came to the WIAA in 1998 as an Assistant to the Director. Anderson served as athletic director at Sun Prairie High School from 1991 until joining the WIAA. He began his professional career as a faculty member at D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, Wis., from 1976-79. He also served as head track and field coach, assistant football coach and assistant basketball coach. In addition to his duties with the WIAA, Anderson was also involved at the national level. He has served on the NFHS Hockey Rules Committee, and he was a voting member of the NFHS's Football Rules Committee. Prior to being at the Association, Anderson started as a graduate assistant at the University of Wisconsin in 1979. He then coached and taught physical education at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire and State University. Anderson then returned to the University of Wisconsin as an assistant football coach from 1983-86 and served as the defensive coordinator in 1986. From 1987-1990, Anderson was the defensive coordinator at Miami of Ohio University. Anderson graduated from UW in 1976 with a Bachelor’s in physical education. He received a Master of Science degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from UW in 1981. ***

PAUL ANDERSON (L’95) is the Director of the Sports Law Program and National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School where he is an Adjunct Professor of Law. Prof. Anderson founded the Institute's Sports Law Alumni Association and serves as its Chair. He is faculty advisor to the Marquette Sports Law Review, Marquette’s Sport Law Competition Board; faculty advisor to the Sports Law and Entertainment Law Societies; and co-faculty advisor to the Sports Law Moot Court, Negotiation, and Arbitration Teams. Prof. Anderson teaches or has taught "The Law of Amateur Athletics," "Entertainment Law," seminars in "Sports, Law & Society," and "Selected Topics in Sports Law," workshops in "Amateur Athletics," "Legal and Business Issues in Collegiate Athletics," "Legal Issues in Youth, High School and Recreational Sports," “The Impact of Gender Equity Laws on Sports,” "Topics in Advanced Legal Research - Sports Law,” “Advanced Legal Research in Sports Law,” “Sports Law Research Program,” and “Representing Professional Athletes and Coaches.” He has also served as a guest lecturer in several courses including "Sports Venues: From Election Day to Game Day," and several economics of sports courses in Marquette's College of Business. Prof. Anderson has been with the Institute in various capacities since 1992. He develops all Institute events, publications, advertisements, and maintains the NSLI and Sports Law Program website. He is the Editor and creator of various NSLI online publications including the Sports Law Research Website and the Sports Facility Reports website. Prof. Anderson earned his undergraduate and juris doctor degree from Marquette; graduating with his B.A. Economics & Philosophy (cum laude & Phi Beta Kappa) in 1991 and his J.D. in 1995.

Prof. Anderson has written various books including SPORTS LAW: A DESKTOP HANDBOOK (1999), MAJOR LEAGUE LEASES: AN OVERVIEW OF MAJOR LEAGUE FACILITY LEASES AND HOW THEY ARE NEGOTIATED (with Miller) (2001), INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS LAW (with Spengler, Connaughton, and Baker) (2009 & 2013), and co-edited SPORTS LAW & REGULATION (with Hylton) (1999) and SPORTS BETTING: LAW AND POLICY (with Blackshaw, Siekmann and Soek) (2011). He has published articles with numerous journals and law reviews including the MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW JOURNAL and MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW REVIEW, THE JOURNAL OF SPORTS AND SOCIAL ISSUES, THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTS LAW REVIEW, THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTS LAW JOURNAL, THE JOURNAL OF SPORTS AND THE LAW, THE SPORTS LAWYER, SPORTS LAW BULLETIN, THE TEXAS REVIEW OF SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT LAW, THE SPORTS, PARKS, and RECREATION LAW REPORTER, CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN SPORTS, AND OTHERS.

Prof. Anderson is also the former Editor-in-Chief of the MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW JOURNAL, the former editor of the JOURNAL OF THE LEGAL ASPECTS OF SPORT, and former Managing Editor of the JOURNAL OF SPORT & SOCIAL ISSUES. He is currently the co-faculty advisor to the MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW REVIEW, and serves on the Editorial Board for the SPORTS, PARKS AND RECREATION LAW REPORTER, the INTERNATIONAL SPORTS LAW JOURNAL, and the JOURNAL OF ISSUES IN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS.

PROF. ANDERSON has been involved in several consultation projects including work with the UNION-TRIBUNE regarding the Padres and Chargers deals, the NFL, NBC, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Orioles, and THE WASHINGTON POST. Prof. Anderson has been frequently quoted in the WASHINGTON POST, SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL, the POST- GAZETTE, the TRIBUNE, the BALTIMORE SUN, and USA TODAY. ***

JOHN S. BLACK is General Counsel of the National Federation of State High School Associations. He joined staff in 1998 after serving for some years as outside counsel. He has extensive experience in the areas of sports law, business law and alternative dispute resolution. In addition to his work at the NFHS, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri at City Law School, where he teaches Amateur Sports Law, and he periodically conducts commercial arbitrations for the American Arbitration Association. He recently concluded his third and final term as a member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions. He earned his bachelor’s degree from College and his law degree from Duke University. He is a member of a number of state and federal bars, including the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, and regularly speaks on sports law topics to professional and educational organizations. Mr. Black is a former president of The Missouri Bar. He served for four years as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. He also served terms as president of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City, The Missouri Bar Foundation and The Missouri Press-Bar Commission. He has been chair of the Kansas City Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Law Committee, and its’ Education Law Committee. He served at the request of Governor Carnahan on a special “blue ribbon commission” to examine and rework the Judicial Article of the Missouri Constitution. He has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Black is married to Darcy Howe, who runs a venture capital firm in Kansas City. They have two grown children, Katie, who lives in Washington, DC, and Andrew, who lives in Chicago. ***

ANDREW BRANDT is the Executive Director of the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law and Professor of Practice at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Brandt serves on the school's Professional Sports Counseling Panel in Villanova’s Athletic Department and advises student-athletes on the business of sports and, where appropriate, advises on agent selection. Brandt also serves on the university's Strategic Planning Committee for the Athletics Department.

On the media side, Brandt is now a featured columnist for both SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and THE ATHLETIC. Brandt writes weekly columns on legal and business issues in sports, providing readers perspective and viewpoints from his unique vantage point as a former player agent and team executive. In addition, Brandt is regularly cited in local and national publications on sports legal and business issues. Brandt also hosts a weekly podcast that averages over 20,000 listeners, "The Business of Sports with Andrew Brandt," taking listeners inside the inner workings of sports with industry leaders including league and team executives, agents, players, media and academia. The podcast has been cited often for its insights and occasional breaking news. Brandt served as the Legal and Business Analyst for ESPN from 2011-2017, analyzing business, legal and policy sports issues on programs such as “Outside the Lines” and “SportsCenter” as well as multiple appearances on ESPN radio programs every week. Brandt lectured at the University of ’s Wharton Business School from 2008-2015, teaching classes in Negotiations and Sports Law, among the most popular classes at Wharton.

Brandt also co-founded THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST, and has made regular contributions to the HUFFINGTON POST, FORBES, and the SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL. After attending Stanford University and Georgetown University Law School, Brandt worked for ProServ, Inc., representing top athletes such as Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Boomer Esiason. He then became General Manager of the Barcelona Dragons in the NFL's World League, introducing to Spain. Following the suspension of the World League, Brandt returned to player representation for Woolf Associates, representing NFL players including Matt Hasselbeck, Adam Vinatieri and Ricky Williams. Brandt left the agent side for the team side when he was named Vice President of the Green Bay Packers from 1999-2008. There, he negotiated all player contracts, managed the NFL Salary Cap and handled all football business operations in building a team that has continued to have sustained success. Brandt also consulted and negotiated contracts for the Eagles from 2009- 2010. ***

MIKE BROEKER is in his 13th year as Deputy Director of Athletics, and 16th overall at Marquette University. In addition, he served as the department's acting director of athletics from July through December 2011. Broeker manages day-to-day operations with a directed focus on external operations and revenue generation, provides guidance and support to the administrative and coaching staffs, and sport oversight for the men's basketball program. Through his leadership, Marquette Athletics has experienced broad-based athletic and academic achievement, unprecedented exposure and interest, and increased revenues from corporate partnerships, licensing, merchandising, ticket sales and donations. Broeker joined the Marquette Athletics staff in November 2003 as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, after nearly four years as a member of the basketball communications group at the National Basketball Association (NBA). While at the NBA, he worked to generate awareness for the league, its executive staff, events and initiatives and served as the primary contact for local and national electronic media outlets. Prior to working with the NBA, Broeker spent two years working in the communications group for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). He served as a primary on-site media contact for events including Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the U.S. Open, and the French Open. Broeker earned a bachelor's degree in English from Siena College in 1997, and master's degree in leadership studies from Marquette in 2012. ***

KERRI CEBULA (L’06) is an Associate Professor of Sport Management at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Kerri has presented at the College Sports Research Institute, the Sport Marketing Association, the Sport and Recreation Law Association, and the European Association of Sport Management conferences and has been published in the JOURNAL OF BRAND STRATEGY, JOURNAL OF NCAA COMPLIANCE and CONCUSSION LITIGATION ALERT. Her work also appears in the Handbook of International Sport Business and Sports Leadership: A Concise Reference Guide. She is co-author of a forthcoming textbook on sport governance. Prior to coming to Kutztown, Kerri worked as a compliance officer in the Athletic Departments of Villanova University and the University of . Kerri earned her J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 2006, where she also earned the Certificate in Sports Law from the National Sports Law Institute. While at MULS, she was a member of the MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW REVIEW and served as a research assistant to Professor Paul Anderson, Director of the NSLI. She also holds a B.A. in Political Science and Justice from American University. ***

TIM DAVIS is a Professor at Wake Forest University School of Law, where he teaches Contracts and Sales. He is on the Board of Advisors for the National Sports Law Institute and serves on the Board for the United States Anti-Doping Agency. In addition, Tim has co-authored a casebook on sports law, and co-authored The Business of Sports Agents. Before teaching at Wake Forest, Tim was a professor at Southern Methodist University for nine years and practiced commercial litigation in Denver, Colorado. Tim went to Stanford University and received his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science (’75) and graduated law school in 1979 from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. ***

JAN DOLESCHAL is a high school sport expert and consultant with the Law Offices of Martin J. Greenberg, and a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, and Wisconsin Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, and is currently a sports law risk consultant working with high schools through her organization Start Playing Safe. Ms. Doleschal is a long-time member of the National Sports Law Institute's Board of Advisors, her biggest impact on Wisconsin sports as director of sports and athletics for Milwaukee Public Schools. She organized the first female sports programs in MPS and later oversaw hundreds of teams and sports in the school district. Doleschal was a physical education major at UW-La Crosse, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She received a MA from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s in divinity from the Theological Seminary in . She served as a pastor, physical education teacher and an English professor at the Milwaukee Area Technical College before joining MPS. She also worked in many other areas of women's sports. In 1997, she was named the Wisconsin Athletic Director of the Year. ***

SHAWN EICHORST (L’95) is Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer at the University of Texas, where he is responsible for the department’s day-to-day operations overseeing 20 intercollegiate varsity sports, 560 student-athletes and 389 full-time employees with a $200 million annual budget. Prior to being at the University of Texas, Shawn was the Director of Athletics at the University of from 2013-2017, the Director of Athletics at the University of Miami (2011-2012), Deputy Athletic Director at the University of Wisconsin (2006-2011), Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of South Carolina (2004-2008), and the Director of Athletics at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater (1999-2003). Eichorst has served on the inaugural Division I Football Oversight Committee since 2015 ,was named co-chair of the NCAA Division I Football Recruiting Ad Hoc Working Group in 2016, and currently serves on the NCAA Division I Competition Committee, NCAA Division I Football Oversight Camps/Clinics Subcommittee as Chair, the Rose Bowl Management Committee, and the Big Ten Program and Budget Review Committee. Eichorst earned his Juris Doctorate here at Marquette University Law School in 1995 and earned his bachelor’s from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in 1990. ***

GABE FELDMAN is the director of the Tulane Sports Law Program and Tulane University's associate provost for NCAA compliance. Named the Paul and Abram B. Barron Associate Professor of Law in 2015, he also is co-founder and co-director of the Tulane Center for Sport. Feldman's extensive experience in sports law includes representing a variety of sports entities while he was in private practice. He continues to act as a consultant for several clients in the sports industry. Feldman joined the Tulane Law faculty in 2005 after nearly five years as an associate with Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C. Before that, he served as judicial clerk to Judge Susan H. Black of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Jacksonville, Florida.

He is regularly quoted in the NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, USA TODAY and other newspapers throughout the country, and has made numerous appearances on national television and radio. He currently serves as the on-air legal analyst for the NFL Network.

Feldman is editor of THE SPORTS LAWYERS JOURNAL and THE SPORTS LAWYER AND was a sports law contributor to the now-defunct GRANTLAND.COM and the SPORTS LAW BLOG. He is director of publications for the Sports Lawyers Association; co-authored of one of the leading sports law casebooks in the country, Sports Law: Cases and Materials; is on the Articles Review Board for the JOURNAL OF LEGAL ASPECTS OF SPORT; and has been published in a variety of journals and periodicals. Much of his writing focuses on the intersection of antitrust, labor, intellectual property law and the sports industry. He also serves as a mediator and arbitrator. Feldman sits on the board of directors of the Sports Lawyers Association, Walk Again Athletic Warriors and Athletes for Hope, a nonprofit organization created to harness the power of sports to impact social change. He also is the director of Special Olympics in and is a member of the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. He teaches Antitrust, Sports Law, Negotiation and Mediation and Contracts. In 2013, he received a President's Award for Graduate and Professional Teaching, a Tulane University recognition of excellence in teaching, learning and research. ***

JACK FORD is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist, documentary producer, prominent trial attorney, author, and professor, has had a unique and remarkably successful career. Raised by a single parent, his journey has taken him from a small town in New Jersey to Yale University, where he was a scholarship student and three-year starter on the varsity football team, to the Fordham University School of Law, where he helped finance his legal education with winnings from three appearances on the television quiz show “Jeopardy,” to courtrooms and classrooms throughout the country, and, ultimately, to the upper echelons of television journalism.

Currently a CBS News Correspondent for “60 Minutes Sports” and Host of “Metro Focus” on PBS (WNET-New York), he is also the Co-Founder and Chief Anchor of the digital network American Ed TV, and a consultant for the NCAA. Mr. Ford began his television news career in 1984 with WCBS-TV in New York. In 1991, he was an original anchor at the launch of Court TV. He also appeared in Fred Friendly’s award-winning PBS Media and Society broadcasts, serving as Moderator for “That Delicate Balance II: The Bill of Rights.”

In 1994, Mr. Ford joined NBC News as Chief Legal Correspondent, reporting on major legal stories for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, and Dateline. In addition, he was the co-anchor for the Show and a substitute anchor for Nightly News and Meet the Press. Mr. Ford joined ABC News in 1999 as an Anchor/Correspondent for 20/20, , and World News Tonight. He also hosted the ESPN show, The Sports Reporters II, from 2002- 2003. During 2003-2004, he hosted a nationally syndicated morning show for CBS TV/King World before returning to Court TV in 2005 as the Host of “Courtside.” From 2009-2014 he served as a CBS News Legal Analyst. He has also provided game commentary for ESPN, the Yes Network, and the American Sports Network.

Following law school, Mr. Ford spent three years as a prosecutor in New Jersey before entering private practice. He became a prominent trial attorney, successfully handling such high-profile cases as the Northeast’s first death penalty trial, one of the nation’s first corporate homicide trials, and the Wall Street insider trading scandal of the late 1980s. During his legal career, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Fordham University School of Law. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Yale University and has also taught at New York University, Monmouth University, and the University of Virginia. He recently served as a Lead Scholar for the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and speaks frequently at colleges and universities across the country. He is the author of two critically acclaimed novels, The Osiris Alliance and The Walls of Jericho.

Mr. Ford’s television journalism work has been recognized with several honors, including two Emmy Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, four National Awards, an MCCJ National Headliner Award, and the March of Dimes FDR Award. In 1997, he received an NCAA Silver Anniversary Award, which is presented to former outstanding college athletes who have achieved distinction in their professional lives. In 1998, Mr. Ford was honored with a “National Father of the Year Award,” and in 2009, he was a recipient of Yale University’s highest athletic honor, the “George H.W. Bush Lifetime of Leadership Award.”

Mr. Ford has been awarded five honorary degrees, recognizing his professional accomplishments and his extensive public service work. He has served as spokesperson, host and/or board member for a number of charitable causes and organizations, including the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (NJ), the Alzheimer’s Association, the N.J. Special Olympics, the Jimmy V Foundation, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, the Football Association, the NCAA Honors Committee, the NCAA Division 1 Committee on Infractions, Meridian Health System, Monmouth University, and Yale University.

Mr. Ford resides in Spring Lake, N.J. with his wife, Dorothy. They have two children, Dr. Ashley Ford Haggerty and Colin Ford. ***

STEPHANIE GALVIN is the Associate General Counsel of the Miami Marlins. In her position she drafts and negotiates a wide range of agreements, including sponsorship, vendor, special event, film, performance, employment, and licensing agreements; creates all waivers and releases for appearances and events at Marlins Park; assists in the preparation, negotiation, and presentation of salary arbitration cases; and manages outside counsel and oversee litigation involving the Marlins and Marlins Park. Prior to being Associate General Counsel, she was Associate Counsel at the Marlins, a Legal Services Intern for the Orlando Magic, Associate Attorney for Sharif Faust Lawyers, Ltd., Legal Intern for the Milwaukee Brewers, and Research Assistant for Andresen & Associates P.C. Stephanie earned her Bachelor of Commerce in marketing from the University of British Columbia in 2010, her Master of Business Administration from Marquette University in 2014, and her Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School in 2014. While studying at Marquette University Law School, she ranked in the top 20% of her class and served as Editor-in-Chief of MARQUETTE SPORTS LAW REVIEW from 2013-2014. ***

JAMES GRAY (L’90) serves as the Sport and Recreation Management Program Director at Marian University and is presently an associate professor. He is a co-author of the two-volume textbook Sports Law Practice, second edition and authored the Third Edition of the same text, along with co-authoring The Stadium Game, first edition – a sports law practitioner’s guide to facility lease negotiations and drafting considerations. Prior to being at Marian University, Gray was a partner at Pierski & Gray, LLP, a Milwaukee law firm where he has worked as a consultant or has represented professional sports leagues, professional and amateur athletes, and youth sports programs in issues ranging from drug testing, sport based risk management, labor contracts and negotiations, as well as sport television and sport facilities agreements. Previous clients include the International Cricket Council, Olympic athletes, and the outside legal counsel for the South African Rugby Union. James is a 1986 graduate of Temple University and 1990 graduate of Marquette University Law School. ***

MARTIN J. GREENBERG (L’71) is the Managing Member of the Law Office of Martin J. Greenberg, Adjunct Professor at Marquette University Law School, lecturer, and author of several published works. Greenberg founded the National Sports Law Institute here at Marquette University Law School. His teaching experience includes courses in property and real estate transactions, sports contract negotiations and sports facility development. He has authored and co-authored the following books: Real Estate Practice; Wisconsin Real Estate Practice; Mortgage and Real Estate Financing; Real Estate Tax Guide; The Law of Damages in Wisconsin — Chapter 22 “Contracts for Sale of Real Property:”; the Stadium Game; Sports Law Practice; and $portsBiz. Greenberg has received numerous awards, including being honored several times as one of the “Top Real Estate Lawyers in Milwaukee” by MILWAUKEE MAGAZINE and being named “Lawyer of the Year – Legal Scholar” by the Milwaukee Bar Association. In 2009, Greenberg was named one of the “Leaders in the Law” by the Wisconsin Law Journal and is listed in the Best Lawyers in America. In 2014 Greenberg received the Master of the Game Award. The Master of the Game Award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to the sports industry and who exemplifies the highest level of professionalism in his or her field. Greenberg has an AVVO rating of 10 out of 10 and an AV rating of 5 out of 5 from Martindale-Hubbell. Greenberg is also very involved in community service, by being involved with the following organizations: Chairman of the National Sports Law Institute, Board Member of the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District Board (Miller Park Board), Chair Selection Committee of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, Chairman of the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation, President of the Wisconsin Sports Foundation, Chairman of the Wisconsin State Fair Park, and Chairman of the Wisconsin State Fair Park Exposition Center. Greenberg earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1967 and his juris doctor here at Marquette University Law School in 1971.

MICHELLE GUYANT-HOLLOWAY is the Athletic Director for Wauwatosa East High School. In her position she oversees twenty-two interscholastic sports. Prior to being at Wauwatosa East High School, she was the Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women’s Administrator at the University of Wisconsin – Parkside (2012-2013), the Athletic Director at St. Mary’s University (2012-2013), the Basketball Coach and Compliance Coordinator at Shenandoah University (2006- 2012). Ms. Guyant-Holloway earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northern University in 1997 and a Master’s in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University in 2004. ***

GREG HELLER is the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer with the Braves. Prior to being at the Braves, Attorney Heller was Senior Counsel of /the Atlanta Braves from 2004 to 2007, and was Counsel – Teams, Venues, and Sports for the conglomerate Turner Sports/Atlanta Braves/Atlanta Hawks/Atlanta Thrashers/Philips Arena from 2000 to 2004. Heller has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Georgia School of Law since the fall of 2017. He graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1996, where he is a member of the Sports Law Alumni Association, and a member of the National Sports Law Institute’s Board of Advisors. ***

JONATHAN ISRAEL is a partner and an experienced sports and labor/employment attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is the co-chair of the Sports Industry Team. He advises and litigates for clients on a wide variety of traditional labor and general employment matters. He practices in diverse industries, including professional and collegiate sports, esports, entertainment, media, financial services, hedge and private equity funds, transportation, and retail. As co-chair of the Sports Industry Team, Johnathan negotiates and administers collective bargaining agreements, including in professional sports and entertainment industries and in connection with corporate transactions and bankruptcy cases; arbitrates grievances and disputes, including for the for professional sports leagues and teams in connection with player discipline, contract disputes, and salary arbitration; and represents sports industry and other corporate clients in matters involving employment and severance agreements, non-compete provisions and other restrictive covenants, trade secrets, confidential and proprietary information, termination and discipline, plant closings and mass layoffs, and administration of personnel policies. Previously, Jon was assistant general counsel at the National Basketball Association, where he served as in-house counsel to the NBA and its affiliated entities and teams on labor and employment, litigation, and general corporate matters. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alfred M. Wolin of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Jon earned his law degree from Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. His undergraduate degree was conferred, cum laude, from Harvard University.

GARY L. JOHANSEN joined the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s Legal Affairs Division in March 1999 and now serves Advisory Counsel. Prior to becoming Advisory Counsel, he served as Senior Associate General Counsel, NGB Governance and Athlete Affairs. Before joining the USOPC, he was engaged in the private practice of law in Westport, Connecticut, as a member of his own firm, and in New York, New York with Hall, McNicol, Hamilton & Clark. Prior to that, Mr. Johansen was associated with TransNational, Inc., an international trading company based in Washington, D.C. During 1985, Mr. Johansen traveled extensively in Asia lecturing for the United States Information Agency on international trade issues and the U.S. political process. Mr. Johansen acquired extensive political and regulatory experience in Washington D.C., where he served as assistant general counsel to the Federal Election Commission, as staff counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and as legislative assistant for United States Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. Prior to moving to Washington, D.C., Mr. Johansen served as assistant city attorney for Boulder, Colorado and as law clerk to Judge James A. von der Heydt, United States District Court Judge for the District of Alaska. While working in the United States Senate, Mr. Johansen was instrumental in passage of the Amateur Sports Act (renamed the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act). Under the direction of Senator Stevens, Mr. Johansen helped build a consensus among sports organizations and drafted provisions in the Act which expanded the authority of the USOPC, set forth requirements for National Governing Bodies, and provided for the resolution of disputes involving athlete participation. Mr. Johansen continued his involvement with the USOPC serving on the USOPC Legislation Committee from 1980 to 1988. He was appointed to the USOPC Membership and Credentials Committee in 1990, where he served until joining the USOPC’s legal staff. Mr. Johansen graduated from the University of Law School with distinction and was a member of the IOWA LAW REVIEW. He is admitted to practice in Colorado, Connecticut, New York, the District of Columbia, , Alaska and Iowa. Mr. Johansen sits on the Board of Advisors of the National Sports Law Institute, which is affiliated with Marquette University’s Sports Law Program. He is also an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association and sits on the AAA’s National Sports Advisory Committee. ***

JOSEPH D. KEARNEY was appointed as Dean of Marquette University Law School in 2003 and is one of the longest-serving law school deans in the country and is only the ninth person to hold the position at Marquette University since 1908. Dean Kearney has been a member of the Marquette faculty since 1997. Before coming to Marquette Law School, Dean Kearney practiced for six years at Sidley & Austin in Chicago. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Antonin Scalia, Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and to the Honorable Diarmuid F. O'Scannlain of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Dean Kearney is an accomplished teacher, scholar, administrator, and lawyer. He teaches each semester, including upper-level courses in Advanced Civil Procedure and Federal Courts and a Supreme Court Seminar. His scholarly articles have appeared in the COLUMBIA LAW REVIEW, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LAW REVIEW, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA LAW REVIEW, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW, and MARQUETTE LAW REVIEW, among other journals. They variously focus on regulation of industry (particularly telecommunications), civil litigation, judicial selection, and Chicago legal history. Dean Kearney's background as a practitioner is in appellate and telecommunications litigation. He has argued cases before the Wisconsin and Supreme Courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and has been the primary draftsman of winning briefs on the merits in the United States Supreme Court. Dean Kearney is an honors graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School. *** WADE LABECKI is the Deputy Director of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. Labecki served as assistant administrator and transportation director at Baldwin-Woodville High School since 2006 and as athletic director since 2000. Labecki was elected to the WIAA Advisory Council in October 2008. Other related experiences include memberships in the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association, where he served on the Board of Directors and as president and served on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin High School Forensics Coaches Association. Labecki has received several professional honors and awards during his career. Among them was his induction into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and his selection to coach in the 2000 Shrine Football All-Star game. He was selected as the WFCA District Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1992. In 2009, Labecki was selected as the WADA District 1 Athletic Director of the Year. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Comprehensive Business Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1987. He received a Master of Education in Administration degree from St. Mary's University (Minn.) in 2001 and received a Doctorate in Educational Leadership degree at Argosy University - Twin Cities in 2010. Labecki was also the recipient of the 2010 President’s Leadership Award for students in the doctoral program at Argosy University. His doctoral dissertation was entitled, Athletic Competitive Equity and Proportionality: Classification of High Schools in State Athletic Associations for Boys Basketball and Football Tournament Placement. ***

SEAN MCCARTHY (L’16) is the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance for Eastern Michigan University, after first joining the department in 2017 as the Assistant Director of Compliance. As the Assistant AD for Compliance, McCarthy administers NCAA rules education for Eastern’s student-athletes, coaches and staff; monitor recruiting and student-athlete eligibility; provide NCAA rules interpretations for EMU coaches and staff; provide mandatory reports for the NCAA and Mid-American Conference, and assist with the day-to-day compliance operations within the athletic department. Prior to joining Eastern Michigan, McCarthy was at Virginia Commonwealth University as their compliance coordinator (2016-2017), interned at Mid-American Conference rival Northern Illinois University, and interned at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the summer of 2014. McCarthy earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in 2012 from Iowa State University before picking up his Juris Doctor from the Marquette University Law School in 2016. He is the CEO of McLaren Global Sport Solutions Inc. and carries on an active arbitration and investigative practice through Innovative Dispute Resolution Ltd. McLaren is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland since 1994, attended as an arbitrator for CAS at 5 Olympic Games and one Commonwealth Games and has sat on over 150 CAS cases. Assisted Senator Mitchel in the investigation of steroid use in the sport. Founder of the Canadian Sport Dispute Resolution Centre. President of the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal based in Munich/Geneva. He was one of the three individuals on the Independent Commission appointed by WADA to investigate allegations of systematic doping and cover-ups in Russian Athletics. Chair of the many Anti-Doping Arbitration Panels world-wide for a wide variety of sports. As an Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer in professional tennis has dealt with more than 75 corruption cases. He was appointed in 2016 as the Independent Person (IP) by WADA to investigate and report on the institutional manipulation of doping controls in Russia and at the Sochi Winter Olympics. His reports have had a significant impact on sports world-wide and were captured in the Oscar Award winning documentary Icarus in 2018. That film highlights his investigation of Russian doping manipulation. His work has been recognized by the honor of being appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2015. Richard was also the recipient of an honorary degree from Huron University College in 2017. ***

MATT MIKRUT is the Director for the Office of the Committee on Infractions (OCOI) at the NCAA, as well as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University – Bloomington. Matt has been at the NCAA since 2014, and has held numerous roles, including: Associate Director of OCOI, Assistant Director of OCOI, and Post-Graduate Intern at OCOI. Prior to being at the NCAA, Matt was Compliance Clerk at the University of South Carolina’s Athletics Department and Compliance Intern at Georgetown University’s Athletic Department. MATTHEW MITTEN is a Professor of Law and the Executive Director of the National Sports Law Institute and the LL.M. in Sports Law program for foreign lawyers at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served as the Law School’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from July 2002 to June 2004. He currently teaches Amateur Sports Law, Professional Sports Law, Sports Sponsorship Legal and Business Issues Workshop, Antitrust Law, and Torts, and has also taught Comparative Sports Law, International Sports Law, Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and a Sports Law seminar during his 30-year teaching career. He has authored Sports Law in the United States (Wolters Kluwer 2011, 2d. ed. 2014, 3d. ed. 2017) and co-authored a law school textbook, Sports Law and Regulation: Cases, Materials, and Problems (Aspen/Wolters Kluwer 2005, 2d. ed. 2009, 3d. ed. 2013, 4th ed., 2017), and Sports Law: Governance and Regulation (Wolters Kluwer 2013, 2d. ed. 2016). A leading sports law scholar, he has published articles in several of the nation’s leading law reviews as well as in medical journals such as THE NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE and is a member of the advisory board for THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTS LAW JOURNAL. He is an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Lausanne, Switzerland) (serving on the ad hoc Division for the XXI Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia and the American Arbitration Association’s commercial, consumer, doping and Olympic sports arbitration panels as well as the UFC and the Ladies Professional Golfers Association anti-doping panels. He has been appointed/served as the sole arbitrator, chair, or panel member in numerous sports, commercial, or consumer arbitrations. He is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) Board of Directors (serving as SLA president from May 2015-May 2017) and the Advisory Board for the Sports & Society Initiative of The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences. He formerly chaired the American Association of Law Schools’ Section on Law and Sports and the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports, and served on the inaugural Board of Directors of the Forum for the Scholarly Study of Intercollegiate Athletics at the invitation of former NCAA president Myles Brand. Matt earned a B.A. in Economics from The Ohio State University and his JD, magna cum laude, from the University of Toledo College of Law. He regularly lectures at Western Law School in Canada and has taught international and comparative sports law courses at the University of Barcelona in Spain and the University of Queensland in Australia. He testified before a U.S. Congressional joint subcommittee regarding proposed federal regulation of ephedrine in August 2003 and the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics regarding alternative regulatory systems for college sports in May 2015. He has discussed a wide variety of sports law, business, and ethics topics at more than 175 conferences and seminars throughout the United States as well as in Australia, Canada, China, England, the Republic of Korea, and Turkey. ***

NATHANIEL (NATE) ST. CLAIR, II (L’04) is a partner in the office of Jackson Walker. He is an Intellectual Property attorney and represents clients in a wide range of Intellectual Property matters. His practice also includes performing infringement and invalidity analyses, patentability studies, risk assessments, and providing general IP counseling, particularly in the electrical and mechanical arts. ANDY SHIFFMAN (L’09) joined Priority Sports after two seasons with the University of Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team as a video coordinator and statistical strategist, before practicing as an attorney in Memphis. Andy also worked for the Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, and Milwaukee Bucks. As Priority Sports’ Executive Vice President of Basketball Representation, Andy assists in the day-to-day management of both NBA and international clients and utilizes his legal background in drafting and analyzing FIBA arbitration cases. An NBPA-certified player- agent, Andy also oversees the travel accommodations and draft workout scheduling for NBA draft prospects, is heavily involved with statistical analytics, the Draft, and Free Agency, and manages the placement of players throughout Europe, China, and Australia. Andy graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. MAUREEN WESTON is Professor of Law at Pepperdine University School of Law and Director of the Entertainment, Media & Sports Dispute Resolution Project. Professor Weston teaches courses on arbitration, mediation, negotiation, international dispute resolution, legal ethics, and U.S. and international sports law. She serves as Faculty Advisor to the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and Dispute Resolution Journal, and as coach for ICC Mediation Advocacy and Sports & Entertainment Law Negotiation competitions. Weston has taught law at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Colorado, the University of Las Vegas Nevada, Hamline, and in Oxford, England. Prior to teaching, Weston practiced law with Holme Roberts & Owen and Faegre & Benson in Colorado. She is actively involved in programs furthering opportunities for students to gain experience in negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Her committee service includes the ABA, Law School Division, Arbitration Competition, AALS Sports Law Executive Committee, and former chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Education Committee and Representation in Mediation Competition. She is a member on the Boards of Directors at the University of Colorado School of Law Alumni Board, the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette School of Law, Malibu Little League, and Editorial Board of LawInSport. A frequent speaker at conferences, Weston is co-author of casebooks on sports law and arbitration and has written numerous articles in the area of Olympic and International Sports Arbitration, disability law, sports law, and dispute resolution. She received her JD from the University of Colorado, and BA in Economics/Political Science at the University of Denver.
