As this is a most useful adjunct to many beautiful ex­ periments with cards, we will describe tw o of the methods employed in its execution.

First Method T his is one of the very many decep­ tive sleights originated by the cele­ brated Professor Charlier, and is un­ doubtedly the best false shuffle in ex­ istence, but owing to the great amount o f practice required for its successful accomplishment, it is rarely made use ©f except by professionals, but if thoroughly mastered the performer can deceive experts. The pack is held in the left hand, and three or four of the top cards are passed into the right.
