The Harrow Wine Story - Top of the World
The Harrow Wine Story - Top of The World We started building this list in 1998, when we had two pages, now we are rated not only as having one of the finest Restaurant Wine Lists in U.K, but were voted in the top 100 Wine Lists in the World this September. Along the road we have picked up a few “Gongs” including Decanter Wine Restaurant of The Year, The AA Wine List of The Year, The Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence and recently “The World of Fine Wine” top award of 3 Stars and The Jury Award for one of the best Wine Lists in the World. Roger is now very much involved in Wine Journalism working for Decanter Magazine and www.the- buyer.net. He is also highly sort after as a Wine Judge and is Panel Chair for IWSC, has spent over 10 years judging for The Decanter World Wine Awards and has recently been added to the judging panel for The Pinnacle Wine Awards, based in Singapore. Roger also sits on The Taittinger Sommelier of The Year Competition. All our wines are served in Grape Varietal Specific Riedel Glasses, which enhances the wine and your experience. We are able to provide a whole range of wines by the glass by using preservation systems such as Le Verre de Vin and Coravin. We list the wines by grape variety giving you a chance to reflect or choose a wine that may not immediately come to mind when you are looking for a specific grape or style. -

DOMAINE DUJAC Clos Saint Denis 1970 - 2004 by Neal Martin March 2020 By Neal Martin | March 31, 2020 Walking back from a dinner last year, a friend asked if I was aware of the current market price for mature bottles of Domaine Dujac. “No,” I replied. All I knew was that they are beyond my budget. He whipped out his smartphone and dug up the price for a 1990 Clos de la Roche. I was gobsmacked – it was a cool £5,000 per bottle. Of course I am inured to the escalation in Burgundy prices in recent years, but even so, I found it staggering how much 750ml of Pinot Noir could cost. Then I remembered a bacchanal in Paris the previous January with a gaggle of high-rolling, wine-loving friends vowing serious damage to Tour d’Argent’s astonishing wine list. Jeremy Seysses joined us for a dinner that ranks among the greatest in my life, one where my already lofty estimation of Dujac went up a few notches. It was not Clos de la Roche that blew my mind but mature vintages of Clos Saint-Denis. I confess to an ardent passion for this vineyard, one shared by a number of winemakers, though it seems to lie unfairly in the shadow of Clos de la Roche within the context of Morey-Saint-Denis. So, when I was invited to a vertical of Dujac’s Clos Saint-Denis in London last April, there was no way I was going to miss it. This vertical tasting was organized by collector Jordi Orriols-Gil and took place at Hide restaurant in central London, with around fifteen Burgundy lovers in attendance. -

Legendary Daumas Gassac Launches Vintages for 2018
March 2018 France’s legendary winery Mas de Daumas Gassac is expanding its presence in Asia and is releasing its latest vintages for 2018. Despite its modest designation and location in the South of France, in the Languedoc commune of Aniane, the Mas de Daumas Gassac vineyard is universally revered for its outstanding red and white wines. Out of its 2016 vintage, only 7,500 cases were produced, with some set to be released in spring 2018. The family winery, founded by Véronique and Aimé Guibert – and now run by their four sons Samuel, Gaël, Roman and Basile – has single-handedly rewritten the history of winemaking for the region of Languedoc. Known for a century as a place where only cheap table wines were produced, the Guiberts were instrumental in showing that this region in the south of France could produce world-class wines. For 2018, the winery is presenting its Red Grand Vin 2016, produced with the estate’s new press which has allowed for unparalleled extraction. This wine, produced from 40-year-old vines, has a high freshness, and tastes of ripe fruits such as cassis. To be drunk while young, this is an explosive vintage not to be missed. The estate is renowned for its whites and for 2018, it is releasing its White Grand Vin 2016. It features the Mas de Daumas Gassac white signature: exotic fruits and light sap notes; a fresh finish and a dash of saltiness. This well- carved profile is made up of 8.1% rare grape varieties. Mas de Daumas Gassac’s wines are grown on a “magic” terroir strikingly similar to the best of Burgundy, and cool microclimate gifting finesse and complexity to its vintages. -
Georges Lignier
Georges Lignier Having been known as the U.S. importer for Hubert Lignier for over 30 years, in 2014 we expanded our connection to the Lignier name through another branch of the family. Georges Lignier is a cousin of Hubert, and while the two estates are clearly separate op- erations, they do share some of the greatest vineyards in and around Morey-Saint-Denis. The domaine is led by Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, who worked at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle, before assuming control of the work in both the vineyard and the cellar in 2008. When it comes to the vineyard holdings, the depth of appellations in both the Premier and Grand Crus is astounding. Overall, the domaine counts sixteen hectares encompassing 50 parcels, across 17 appellations in both white and red. Moreover, these are generally not single rows of rare plots, but substantial parcels within some of the greatest sites in the Cote d’Or. For example, the estate is the largest proprietor of the Grand Cru Clos Saint-Denis, at 1.49 hectares, and controls over a hectare of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. Viticulture: • Farming: Lutte Raisonnée • Treatments: No herbicide; chemical treatments when needed • Ploughing: Occasional ploughing by lightweight tractor, but only when necessary. Instead, Benoît allows grass to grow between the rows, which naturally pushes the vine’s root system deeper into the bedrock. His is the only domaine in Morey that allows grass to grow freely in the vineyard. • Soils: Limestone-clay • Vines: Average 50 years old, young vines average 15 years old, all trained in Guyot. -

The last decade has seen all of that change, and what was once the land of plonk is now one of the most exciting regions in the world of wine, with innovative vignerons producing both artisanal limited production cuvées and branded wines of vastly improved quality. The array of styles from this fascinating region offers wonderful diversity for the enthusiast - from dry and mineral white wines through crisp rosés to deep, structured red wines and on to unctuous sweet and fortified wines. -
