Thou art indeed Praiseworthy, the Exalted.” “Prosper, O Allah, Muhammad and his people as Thou didst prosper Abraham and his people. Thou art indeed Praiseworthy, the Exalted.” Hadith Hadhrat Huzaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said: “O Muslims, this Prophethood will remain with you as long as Allah wishes it to remain. Then it would come to an end, to be replaced with Khilafat which would be in the pattern of Prophethood and would remain as long as Allah wills. Then this Khilafat would also come to an end. The rulers who are cruel to people will replace them for as long as Allah wills. Then this period will also come to an end. Then there will be the rule of usurpers, and that period too will come to an end. After that the Khilafat on the pattern of Prophethood would re-emerge.” Masnad Ahmad 6 AYESHA WINTER 2008 THE PROMISED MESSIAH AND MAHDI Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) WINTER 2008 AYESHA 7 FROM THE WRITINGS OF THE PROMISED MESSIAH (peace be upon him) “It is necessary for you to witness the Second Manifestation whose coming is better for you, for it is everlasting and unending till the Day of Judgment. The Second Manifestation cannot occur until I depart, and it is only when I depart that God shall send the Second Manifestation for you which shall abide with you forever. It is, therefore, necessary for you to see the day of my departure so that the day may follow which is the day of everlasting promise…. I have appeared from God as a glory and I am one of His glories duly personified, but there shall be other persons after me who shall bear the glory of His Second Manifestation.” (Al-Wasiyyat, page 6) 8 AYESHA WINTER 2008 Dear Reader, Assalamo Alaikum!—Peace be with you. Over the past year, we have heard in the news about Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s push to ready the people of his nation for the arrival of the Imam Mahdi, the twelfth Imam of the Shia Muslims. According to Ahmadinejad, this Imam has been in hiding for the past 1100 years and is expected to return in his original state. The West fears Ahmadinejad’s “irrational” motivations will lead to violence. During the Pope’s 2008 visit to Washington, D.C., one of the main goals on his agenda was to apologize for the sinful behavior of some priests in his Church. And recently on public television, an expert on the Dalai Lama explained the significance of his role as a political leader as well as spiritual leader of millions of Tibetan Buddhists in the ongoing difficulties with the Chinese government. These are the international religious leaders of today. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 31, the angels question Allah about a Khalifa causing disorder in the earth. We know from this Verse that the Khalifa cannot be true whose followers create disorder, whose leaders engage in grievous sin and who are caught in political turmoil. We can see that even those religious communities with millions of members and a powerful leader are in need of true Khilafat. In a question and answer session, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih IV (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about WINTER 2008 AYESHA 9 the need for Khilafat, especially in the Muslim world. He answered clearly: “By discord and disharmony the power of the Muslim world has not only disintegrated, but also they are using this broken strength against one another…this is happening in every Muslim country…What will they gain from all of this? It is incumbent that Muslims should unite at the hand of one Imam. Without Khilafat, it is just impossible. How can we live without an Imam today when the condition of Muslims is crying for it?” Everywhere in the world we find turmoil, violence and loss of faith in God and morality. The Promised Messiah (peace be on him) claimed, “Those who are outside my community are all disunited in their ways and thoughts. They do not follow a leader whose obedience is incumbent upon them.” The need is ever greater for a spiritual leader who can unify everyone and guide to the teachings of the true faith. The Khulafa of the Ahmadiyya community have spread peace, education and genuine service to people all over the world. There has never been oppression or violence under their leadership. 2008 marks the 100th year of Khilafat under the Promised Messiah (peace be on him). It is a time for gratitude and celebration that we have been granted the blessings of Khilafat. Equally, it is a time for retrospect on our grave responsibilities: purification of ourselves to continue to be worthy of Khilafat and service and education to all those around us who have not yet found its blessing. Wasalaam, Ruqaiya Asad Editor Ayesha Magazine 10 AYESHA WINTER 2008 The Divine Election Amtul Mussawir Ahmad and Nikasha Ahmad therefore, all come together in I t has been divine practice that prayer, to wait for the second prophets come to establish the manifestation. All communities of word of God and to guide people the righteous people among my towards Him. But when a prophet followers in every land should passes away after completing his remain in prayer together, so that mission, Allah assures the the second manifestation of power continuity of His blessings for the should descend from the heaven believers and spread of His and show you how powerful is your message by a second manifestation God.” of His power.
