The Trust is recognised as a centre of excellence and innovation with many of the hospital specialists being leaders in their field.

Our commitment to our patients and our community is as an open, accountable and responsive organisation that fosters patient and public involvement. The Trust achieved NHS Foundation Trust status in July 2004 and as such has a Council of Governors and a membership of approximately 20,000. CUH’s mission to provide outstanding care, teaching and research, with a local focus is supported not only through the high calibre of its workforce and continuing service innovation but as a partner organisation in the development of Cambridge’s biomedical campus. Royal Papworth Hospital’s relocation to the Campus in 2019/20 as well as Astra Zeneca’s decision to position their headquarters on the campus presents opportunities for collaboration in continuing healthcare excellence.

CUH’s Strategy: In order to achieve our vision, the Board has committed to a refreshed strategy acknowledging our challenges and our championing our strengths. CUH’s strategy aims are: . To become sustainable by 2021 across finance, care quality, teaching and research . To build on its position at the centre of a biomedical hub

. To maximise the benefits for patients, staff and the UK economy through four major programmes of work over a 3-5 year time period:

1. Improving patient journeys – strengthening services through productivity improvement and pathway redesign 2. Working with our local communities – implementing the STP to deliver enhanced health and better care closer to home 3. Strengthening the organisation – improving the leadership, governance and functional capability of CUH 4. Contributing regionally, nationally and internationally – making the most of CUH’s opportunities in highly specialised services, teaching and bioscience research

All four programmes are focused on improving the quality, safety and experience of care for our patients. The Board believes the programmes are complementary and together will support the delivery of the strategy.

Our Values: Our values are 'Together - Safe, Kind and Excellent', and are at the heart of patient care, defining the way we work and behave.

Partnership Working: Our commitment to build and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with the research community, NHS and social care organisations supports our aim to ensure patients get the right care in the right place at the right time.
