Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Statement of Purpose July 2020 Service Provider Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Headquarters: Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie Hospitals Hills Road Cambridge CB2 0QQ Introduction - Our Hospitals & Services: Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) provides accessible, high- quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population. The Trust is recognised as a centre of excellence and innovation with many of the hospital specialists being leaders in their field. CUH also provides satellite and outreach services at other locations to meet the needs of patients, e.g. in other hospitals, GP practices, and in patients’ homes. On occasion we outsource treatment to the independent sector although we retain notes about our patients. Our commitment to our patients and our community is as an open, accountable and responsive organisation that fosters patient and public involvement. The Trust achieved NHS Foundation Trust status in July 2004 and as such has a Council of Governors and a membership of approximately 20,000. This comprises of patients, staff and members of the public who are actively involved with the Trust, ensuring that our services reflect the needs of those using them. Our headquarters is Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie Hospitals in Cambridge. Addenbrooke’s Hospital provides emergency, surgical and medical care for local people and is the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the East of England. It is also a regional centre of excellence for specialist services such as transplantation, cancer, neurosciences, paediatrics and genetics. Based on the same site as Addenbrooke’s, the Rosie Hospital is a women's hospital and the regional centre of excellence for maternity care. Our Vision & Future: CUH's vision is to improve people's quality of life through innovative and sustainable healthcare. CUH is well positioned to enable the integration of our three core activities of clinical care, research and teaching through its position as: . Royal Papworth Hospital’s relocation to the Campus in 2019/20 as well as Astra Zeneca’s decision to position their headquarters on the campus presents opportunities for collaboration in continuing healthcare excellence. CUH’s Strategy: In order to achieve our vision, the Board has committed to a refreshed strategy acknowledging our challenges and our championing our strengths. CUH’s strategy aims are: . To maximise the benefits for patients, staff and the UK economy through four major programmes of work over a 3-5 year time period: 1. Registration with the Care Quality Commission The Trust is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to deliver the regulated activities at the set locations as described below. The Trust is committed to the ongoing maintenance of compliance with the Care Quality Commission's 'Fundamental Standards' and will monitor compliance against the standards on an ongoing basis through internal monitoring processes. Surgical procedures Location: Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie Hospitals, Hills Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB2 0QQ. Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie Hospitals provide general and specialist adult and paediatric surgery in Cambridge on an inpatient, day case and outpatient basis as well as for emergency patients and has in excess of 37 operating theatres to support this activity. Surgical specialties provided include General Surgery, Ear, Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Plastic Surgery, Transplantation, Urology, Neurosurgery, Gynaecology and Paediatric Surgery. The Trust has a large Anaesthetic Department to support the surgical services offering general, local and regional anaesthetic techniques to patients, in addition to the provision of a designated Pain Management Service. Location: Princess of Wales Hospital, Lynn Road, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 1DN. The Trust performs day case surgery at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely. A range of surgical specialties are provided including Maxillofacial, Plastics, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Chronic Pain interventions and Urology, using a mix of general and local anaesthetic techniques. The service is provided to patients from age 18 and above who are suitable for day surgery. Location: Cambridge IVF, Kefford House, Maris Lane, Trumpington, Cambridge, CB2 9LG. Cambridge IVF is a purpose built assisted conception unit that opened in September 2011. It offers a range of fertility treatments to NHS patients from across the East of England and to those funding their own care. The service includes procedure rooms/recovery, scanning and laboratory facilities in addition to private areas for counseling and confidential discussions. The unit is licensed and regulated by the HFEA, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Statement of Purpose Page 3 of 15 however as Cambridge IVF also undertakes egg collection and embryo transfer this location is also registered under the Surgical Procedures regulated activity. Key Satellites (Surgery) Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Park, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire PE29 6NT. All satellites at which surgical specialties are supported are given in the Appendix. 2. Treatment of disease, disorder or injury Location: Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie Hospitals, Hills Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB2 0QQ. The Trust provides emergency, medical and surgical services for the treatment of disease, disorder or injury on an inpatient, day case and outpatient basis for both elective and emergency patients of all ages. CUH became the regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC) on 2 April 2012 as part of the East of England Trauma Network. The multi-disciplinary team work together with a network of emergency departments, acute and specialist hospitals, the ambulance service and others to provide dedicated trauma care capabilities around the region. Addenbrooke’s Emergency Department deals with emergency admissions of all types, including those patients who are referred by their GP or who self-present, or are brought in by the Ambulance service. The Emergency Department has a dedicated paediatric area for the assessment and treatment of children. Medical specialties provided by the Trust include a wide range of specialist and non- specialist services including Acute Medicine, Respiratory, Allergy, Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, Genito-urinary medicine, Hepatology, Medicine for the Elderly, Metabolic Bone Disease, Metabolic Medicine, Renal Medicine, Rheumatology, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Disablement Service, Stroke services and Oncology. The provision of treatment for disease, disorder and injury is supported by established Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy and Dietetic Services.
