Štúra 1, 812 35 Bratislava E-mail: [email protected] Description The municipality of Trnava is situated in the western part of Slovakia in the Podunajská lowlands and at the foot of the hilly area Malé Karpaty. The project comprises two main components: – The modernisation of the existing biological treatment process of the Trnava Waste Water Treatment Plant with regard to additional nitrification, denitrification and biological phosphorus removal, in order to meet the EU and Slovak water quality standards; – The rehabilitation and extension of the existing sewer network in the town of Trnava and the construction of new sewer networks for about 36,000 inhabitants living in 27 villages in the Trnava area. Estimated completion date of the measure: 31 December 2008 Objectives The measure aims to bring the waste water treatment in the Trnava region into compliance with the following EU Directives: – 2000/60/EEC: Water Framework; – 91/271/EEC: Urban Waste Water Treatment; – 91/676/EEC: Nitrates; – 80/68/EEC: Groundwater; – 76/464/EEC: Dangerous Substances; 1 Economic and social cost-benefit analysis The project will improve the service level for sewerage in the project area from 62% to about 95% within the next five years and the proposed and planned real tariff increase for sewerage services of about 138% (from 0,169 to 0,403 EUR/m3) for domestic consumers and about 25% (from 0,323 to 0,403 EUR/M3) for commercial consumers over this period will significantly improve the revenue situation of the water company. The generated income will be used to cover all operational expenses, the capital costs of the proposed ISPA project and all additional investments needed for the extension of sewerage services in the left over smaller villages (not eligible for ISPA assistance) of the Trnava District. Environmental impact assessment The Department of Environmental Impact Assessment of the Slovak Ministry of Environment undertook a screening of the project. Based on the information contained in the project intent and the statements of interested bodies of the state administration and affected municipalities, the EIA Department on 10 September 2003 decided that the activity does not require further environmental impact assessment.
