BBC NOVA NOVA – The Last B-24 Wednesday, Nov. 7, 9 pm During WWII, an American B-24 Liberator bomber known as the Tulsamerican fell from the sky while returning from a mission over Europe and crashed into the Adriatic Sea. Seven crew members survived and were rescued. Three men were never found — thought to be lost forever, unrecoverable. In 2010, divers located the plane. Now the Department of Defense, aided by the Croatian Navy and some of the world’s leading underwater 4 archaeologists, set to work investigating the wreckage. The 1951 MGM film starring Gene Kelly was inspired by Gershwin’s score and became one of the studio’s most acclaimed and famous movie musicals. In 2015, a new stage adaptation of the film came “home” to Broadway — and now makes its television debut on Great Performances with its original stars, Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope. The number of people with Diabetes is growing. In the United States, 9.4% of the population has it. That’s over 30 million people — with millions more diagnosed with prediabetes. Over time, diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney failure and nerve damage. In our November edition we look at Type 2 — the most common form of Diabetes — its causes and what you can do if you are at risk.

The word trauma is used a lot in medicine. Injuries like a broken bone or concussion are often a result of trauma. But trauma of a different kind is effecting families — especially children. When factors like abuse, stress, neglect, grief and addiction are present in a home, children suffer trauma. The impact can sometimes be felt for decades. Unlike a broken bone, it’s complex to treat; but that’s not stopping healthcare professionals from doing what they can. Learn why treating family trauma is playing a bigger role in modern medicine.
