    Mediterranean Work Plan of the European Coordinator Laurens Jan Brinkhorst Transport MAY 2015 This report represents the opinion of the European Coordinator and does not prejudice the official position of the European Commission. 1. Towards the Mediterranean Corridor work plan On 1 January 2014 a new era has begun in European infrastructure policy with the setting up of nine core network corridors led by a European coordinator and the creation of the Connecting Europe Facility as financing instrument. This new framework includes not only the Member States but also all other stakeholders of the Corridor: infrastructure managers (for road, rail, ports, inland waterways, airports and multi-modal terminals), regions and representatives of the transport industry as users of the infrastructure. All these stakeholders come together in the Corridor Forum: four meetings of the Corridor Forum have been held in 2014 and have functioned as unique platform allowing a transparent and constantly deepening dialogue. Furthermore, the Corridor Forum served as the “testing ground” of many of the findings and recommendations presented in this document. This work plan is largely based on the study of the Mediterranean corridor (the Corridor Study) carried out in 2014. It is presented as the result of the collaborative efforts of the Member States, the European Commission, external consultants and chaired by the European Coordinator. The work plan has been elaborated in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1315/2013 which establishes Union guidelines for the development of the trans- European transport network (the Regulation)1. The concept of core network corridors rests on three pillars: modal integration, interoperability and the coordinated development of its infrastructure.

Geodiversitas 23 (2) : 303-312. ABSTRACT The relatively rich porcupine remains from the early Pliocene locality of Serrat d’en Vacquer, near Perpignan, have been restudied. They were previ- ously determined as Hystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848) by Depéret (1890) and maintained in this species by later students. The bulk of the material KEY WORDS Mammalia, represents in fact a new species, H. depereti n. sp., larger in size than H. primi- Hystricidae, genia and different from it in its higher crowned cheek teeth and reduced Rodentia, third molars. Among the Perpignan material, there are two molars, different Pliocene, France, in colour and possibly mixed, that fit better in size and morphology with new species. H. primigenia. RÉSUMÉ Les porc-épics (Mammalia, Rodentia) du Pliocène inférieur de Perpignan, France : une nouvelle étude systématique. Les restes de porc-épics sont relativement abondants dans le gisement plio- cène de Serrat d’en Vacquer, près de Perpignan. Ils ont été attribués à Hystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848) par Depéret (1890) et d’autres paléontologues qui ont étudié les Hystricidae fossiles d’Europe. Point-to-point services with the lowest number of intermediate stops have been the preferred solution. SNCF can be considered as an active player in the rail/air transport competition, given that it offers rapid travel times, competitive prices and considerable carrying capacities. Frequencies can be high between the largest towns: 16 round-trip services between Paris and Marseilles (840 km, 190 minutes1), 21 between Paris and Bordeaux (620 km, 190 minutes), etc. ID-TGV, a low-cost subsidiary, has also been created. Operating on selected routes, it provides a good level of on- board services as well as some interesting innovations. The development of high-speed lines has created new competition opportunities between the TGV, Air France and other carriers. This partially explains the relative weakness of competition within the domestic air transport sector: even a low-cost carrier like EasyJet tries to avoid competition on routes where the average travel time of the TGV is lower than 3.5 hours. Air France is now planning to progressively downsize its services on routes where the TGV’s market share is increasing: specific point-to-point services to/from Orly Airport will be closed and, by 2016, only a few feeder lines to/from the CDG-Roissy hub will remain.
