Social life There are a lot of typical French restaurants in the neighborhood like ‘Le Tire Bouchon’ on the avenue or ‘Lou Grilladou’ on the Place Belgique. A great tapas restaurant is Le Ben Aqui, in front of the Théâtre de l’Archipel. The market at “Place de la République” is open from Tuesday till Sunday from 8am to 1pm. You can find local fruit and vegetables there but also roast chicken and high quality meat. Every Thursday morning you can find organic products on the farmers' market “Place Belgique”. There’s a lot to do in Perpignan all year round. Live music and theater festivals, music concerts, exhibitions, cultural & gastronomic events and so much more. Rugby is very popular in Perpignan, almost every weekend you can go to a rugby match of one of the local teams: l’USAP or Les Dragons Catalans. There are a lot of great bars and pubs in Perpignan like Republic café, le Divine, El Boca Boca, O’ Flaher- ty’s Irish Pub, El Tio Pepe, Les Halles, Le Mirabeau, le Kraken. Geodiversitas 23 (2) : 303-312. ABSTRACT The relatively rich porcupine remains from the early Pliocene locality of Serrat d’en Vacquer, near Perpignan, have been restudied. They were previ- ously determined as Hystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848) by Depéret (1890) and maintained in this species by later students. The bulk of the material KEY WORDS Mammalia, represents in fact a new species, H. depereti n. sp., larger in size than H. primi- Hystricidae, genia and different from it in its higher crowned cheek teeth and reduced Rodentia, third molars. Among the Perpignan material, there are two molars, different Pliocene, France, in colour and possibly mixed, that fit better in size and morphology with new species. H. primigenia. Pierre ZEMBRI Université de Cergy-Pontoise EA 4113 Mobilités, Réseaux, Territoires, Environnement 33, boulevard du Port F-95011 CERGY-PONTOISE CEDEX email : [email protected] Summary Since the beginning of high-speed services in France, the TGV network’s main target has been business traffic using the domestic air transport network. Point-to-point services with the lowest number of intermediate stops have been the preferred solution. SNCF can be considered as an active player in the rail/air transport competition, given that it offers rapid travel times, competitive prices and considerable carrying capacities. Frequencies can be high between the largest towns: 16 round-trip services between Paris and Marseilles (840 km, 190 minutes1), 21 between Paris and Bordeaux (620 km, 190 minutes), etc. ID-TGV, a low-cost subsidiary, has also been created. Operating on selected routes, it provides a good level of on- board services as well as some interesting innovations. The development of high-speed lines has created new competition opportunities between the TGV, Air France and other carriers. This partially explains the relative weakness of competition within the domestic air transport sector: even a low-cost carrier like EasyJet tries to avoid competition on routes where the average travel time of the TGV is lower than 3.5 hours. Air France is now planning to progressively downsize its services on routes where the TGV’s market share is increasing: specific point-to-point services to/from Orly Airport will be closed and, by 2016, only a few feeder lines to/from the CDG-Roissy hub will remain.
