Charlevue, after some very dry years, have made the bold, yet progressive decision to host their own sale. UST LIKE A LOT OF PRODUCERS all our bulls were fed in the dry years 2018 and 2019. We had our share of losses with both Jyounger bulls and herd sires. Coming out of post drought our thoughts are to not feed bulls to maximum capacity and try to minimise costs. Charlevue over the years has not offered many of their females. We strongly feel they are your heatbeat of your breeding program. Being our first Sale we have decided to offer some of our best females. This is a one of opportunity as it is very difficult to put a price on them. Breeding females especially should not be over feed for the production and longevity. Normally we would not put forward such an offering. The sale offers a draft of 33 quality Brangus bulls, seven registered females and 5 semen packages from proven sires to exciting up coming young bulls. Doonside is also offering bulls at the sale, with all Charlevue cattle carrying a lot of Doonside blood in them. Three quality led steer prospects will be offered along with 30 weaner steers, presented in pens of 6. They are all members of our ex poddies from last year’s drought and are very quiet and well handled, ready to go their new homes. The proceeds of LOT 51 led steer “Teddy” will be donated to the Australian Breast Cancer Foundation and LOT 53 stallion service fee will be donated to the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service. We are also hosting a fund raiser competition for the CHRS “Guess the weight of the old bullock” which will be on display on Inspection Day. This will be drawn after lunch on Saturday the 1st of August at Charlevue Inspection day. You can enter by a $2 donation either on the morning of after seeing him in the flesh or take a guess online via the website www.chrs.org.au At Charlevue we would like to keep things simple, but cost efficient, by putting all breeding values on actuals that have an income to the business. All running costs of every business these days seem to be going up each year! Our aim here is to breed sound and productive cattle as economically as possible and show that Charlevue genetics are very competitive in the modern cattle market. Following our successful showing at the last Beef Australia competition in 2018 and with our stud very much commercially focused, allows all cattle producers the confidence to know that both can be one category. Feed and preparation can vary no matter what you require of your cattle, but the quality no matter what competition or market you are in is all you need. After the drought of 2018 and 2019 we at Charlevue want to not only do the above but really want to work on Drought Proofing Charlevue. Held following IBBA’s Global Roundup, it provided an excellent social setting for Brangus breeders to renew acquaintances, visit with old friends and to power up their breeding programs through purchases of elite cattle and genetics. The sale established a torrid pace from the beginning as the first three lots in the ring fetched $178,000 between them. At $70,000, two lots took home high selling female honors. Lot 5, Ms Brinks Brightside 415R23, consigned by Draggin M Ranch, El Dorado, Arkansas sold for the bid price to Bushley Creek Cattle Co and Cross N Brangus, Olla, La. This powerful female is averaging over 18 embryos per flush and is the dam of the $73,000 Dynasty bull, last fall’s high selling herd sire prospect. Also selling for $70,000 was Lot 7, Oaks Ms Csonka 541T7, consigned by The Oaks Farm, Newnan, Ga.

    HISTORY OF IBBA How It All Began A review of the development of the Brangus breed would take us back beyond the founding of the American Brangus Breeders Association in 1949; however, registered Brangus descend from the foundation animals recorded that year or registered Brahman and Angus cattle enrolled since then. Much of the early work in crossing Angus and Brahman cattle was done at the USDA Experiment Station at Jeanerette, Louisiana -- the first crosses being made as far back as 1912. During the same period, Clear Creek Ranch of Welch, Oklahoma, the Essar Ranch of San Antonio, Texas, and a few individual breeders in other parts of the United States and Canada were also carrying on private experimental breeding programs. They were looking for a desirable beef-type animal that would retain the Brahman's natural ability to thrive under adverse conditions in combination with the excellent qualities for which the Angus was noted. The early breeders from 16 states and Canada met in Vinita, Oklahoma on July 19, 1949, and organized the American Brangus Breeders Association, later renamed the International Brangus Breeders Association, with headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. One day following the formation of the American Brangus Breeders Association, the July 30, 1949 edition of the Vinita Daily Journal, Vinita, Oklahoma, published a front page article entitled "Pope is named president of Brangus Group." The article went on to read: "Other officers elected here as cattle organization is set up. Raymond Pope, co-owner and manager of Clear Creek Ranch in Northern Craig County was elected president of the American Brangus Breeders Association at the organization meeting for the group held Friday afternoon in Vinita.
