1 & 2 KINGS READING PLAN Welcome to the study of the books of 1 & 2 Kings! Each day will focus on a passage of scripture from 1 or 2 Kings. For the full experience, we invite you to read the daily Scripture reading before reading the First 5 teaching for that day. Day 1 Reading: 1 Kings 1 Major Moment: Adonijah attempts to take the throne, but Solomon is declared king of Israel. Day 2 Reading: 1 Kings 2 Major Moment: King David dies and Solomon’s reign is established. Day 3 Reading: 1 Kings 3 Major Moment: Solomon prays for wisdom and becomes a wise ruler. Day 4 Reading: 1 Kings 4 Major Moment: Judah and Israel live in peace under Solomon’s wise rule. Day 5 Reading: 1 Kings 5 Major Moment: Solomon prepares to build God’s temple. Day 15 Reading: 1 Kings 13 Major Moment: A prophet condemns Jeroboam’s idolatry. Day 16 Reading: 1 Kings 14 Major Moment: Ahijah prophesies against Jeroboam, and Rehoboam becomes king of Judah. Day 17 Reading: 1 Kings 15 Major Moment: Asa succeeds Abijah as king of Judah, and Nadab is king of Israel. The Lord appears to Elijah. Day 22 Reading: 1 Kings 20 Major Moment: Ahab defeats Aram, but is condemned for excusing Ben-Hadad. Day 23 Reading: 1 Kings 21 Major Moment: Jezebel schemes to get Naboth’s vineyard for Ahab. Day 24 Reading: 1 Kings 22 Major Moment: Ahab ignores Micaiah the prophet and dies at Ramoth Gilead. Day 25 Reading: 2 Kings 1 Major Moment: Elijah calls on the Lord to use fire to consume the men of Ahaziah because they do not worship the one true God. Day 26 Reading: 2 Kings 2 Major Moment: Elijah is taken up into heaven in a whirlwind and Elisha succeeds him as prophet. Day 27 Reading: 2 Kings 3 Major Moment: The Moabites are defeated by Israel, Judah and Edom. Day 28 Reading: 2 Kings 4 Major Moment: Elisha meets a Shunammite woman and brings her son back to life. Day 29 Reading: 2 Kings 5 Major Moment: The man with leprosy is healed by washing in the Jordan. Day 30 Reading: 2 Kings 6 Major Moment: The king of Aram sends an army to capture Elisha, but they are blinded by the Lord. Day 31 Reading: 2 Kings 7 Major Moment: Elisha prophesies the end of the famine, which happens after the raid of the Aramean camp. Day 32 Reading: 2 Kings 8 Major Moment: Elisha meets the Shunamite woman again and her land is restored to her. Day 33 Reading: 2 Kings 9 Major Moment: Jezebel is killed and eaten by the dogs. Day 34 Reading: 2 Kings 10 Major Moment: Jehu kills all of Ahaziah’s brothers and the worshippers of Baal. Day 35 Reading: 2 Kings 11 Major Moment: Joash escapes from Athaliah’s deathly attack and Joash is declared king. Day 36 Reading: 2 Kings 12 Major Moment: The temple is restored under the rule of Joash. Day 37 Reading: 2 Kings 13 Major Moment: After being ill, Elisha dies and is buried. Day 38 Reading: 2 Kings 14 Major Moment: Jeroboam becomes the ruler of Israel and restores the boundaries of Israel. Day 39 Reading: 2 Kings 15 Major Moment: The reigns of many kings are described. Two kings of Judah, Azariah and Jotham do what was right. Five kings of Israel, Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah and Pekah do evil. Day 40 Reading: 2 Kings 16 Major Moment: Ahaz becomes king and sets up an altar for himself. Day 41 Reading: 2 Kings 17 Major Moment: Israel is conquered by Assyria and the first part of the exile begins. Day 42 Reading: 2 Kings 18 Major Moment: Judah is conquered by Babylon. Day 43 Reading: 2 Kings 19:1-19 Major Moment: Hezekiah prays for deliverance and the Lord answers by striking down the Assyrians. Day 44 Reading: 2 Kings 19:20-37 Major Moment: Hezekiah prays for deliverance and the Lord answers by striking down the Assyrians. Day 45 Reading: 2 Kings 20 Major Moment: Envoys come from Babylon and Hezekiah foolishly shows them everything in his storehouses. Day 46 Reading: 2 Kings 21 Major Moment: Manasseh becomes king and the Lord promises to bring disaster on Jerusalem and Judah. Day 47 Reading: 2 Kings 22 Major Moment: Hilkiah finds the Book of the Law and it is read aloud to Josiah. Day 48 Reading: 2 Kings 23 Major Moment: The altars and high place are destroyed by King Josiah and Passover is celebrated. Day 49 Reading: 2 Kings 24 Major Moment: Babylonian, Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite raiders destroy Judah and Nebuchadnezzar takes Jerusalem captive. Day 50 Reading: 2 Kings 25 Major Moment: Judah is conquered by Babylon and the people are taken into exile. .
