With a track record for directing intelligent, eye-catching projects in a variety of genres, Tracey is a natural storyteller who enjoys communicating with an audience in an engaging, entertaining & cinematic way. Tracey has directed two stand-alone episodes of BBC 1 drama ‘Casualty’ and has directed over 30 episodes of BBC series ‘Doctors’. She has just finished post production on 5 episodes of ‘Hollyoaks’ for Lime Pictures/Channel 4. As well as her regular TV drama directing, Tracey has a number of writing & directing projects in development. Including feature screenplay ‘Mother in the Cupboard’ written with David Baddiel, ‘Season To Taste – or How to Eat Your Husband’ a TV series, developed along with author Natalie Young, and ‘Time for Bed’ a low budget feature adaptation of David Baddiel’s best selling novel of the same name. Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge) Steve Coogan is fresh from a tour of the United States launching his second feature film 24 Hour Party People and in a few hours he will be flying off to a sunny Mediterranean destination to continue filming his new series for BBC TWO called The Cruise alongside Rob Brydon. He’s wearing a Paul Smith suit and his hair is long and wavy, its hard to recognise he’s Norwich’most famous failed chat show host and Radio Norwich DJ, Alan Partridge. So five years on since the last series of I’m Alan Partridge, why did Steve choose to bring back the Bafta Award winning series? Steve explains “ We never didn’t choose to bring him back, we always knew we were going to do another one, so it wasn’t if - it was when. We were all going off and doing other things and we (co-writers, Peter Baynham, Armando Iannucci) had to get the three of us together in one room for long enough to write a series - it was a question of logistics. Steve continues “we also decided we’d only ever come back and do another series when we were missing Alan. The last series was 1997 and we spent a year writing him and we all got sick of Alan so we had to wait until we started missing him again” Was it difficult to write the new series after the long break? Steve replies “you need to have fresh ideas, you can’t sit in a room and force Alan so we thought hang on lets get ideas cos when you are writing a comedy that people expect great things from, you can’t really force it”. -

PRESS RELEASE Everyman Theatre, Liverpool 18th Feb 2014 The Liverpool Everyman is a new theatre, won in open European competition, for an internationally regarded producing company. The scope of work includes a 400 seat adaptable auditorium, a smaller performance and development space, a large rehearsal room, public foyers, exhibition spaces, catering and bar facilities, along with supporting offices, workshops and ancillary spaces. The entire façade is a large, collaborative work of public art. The design combines thermally massive construction with a series of natural ventilation systems and low energy technical infrastructures to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for this complex and densely inhabited urban building. Steve Tompkins, Director of Haworth Tompkins said: "The Everyman project has been a labour of love for almost a decade, during which time we've come to understand the unique quality of Liverpool's architecture and the deep civic pride of its people. I hope this new incarnation of the Everyman will command the same affection and loyalty as the previous one, and inspire a new generation of Liverpool theatre makers and audiences." The Everyman holds an important place in Liverpool culture. The original theatre, converted from the 19th century Hope Hall chapel, had served the city well as a centre of creativity, conviviality and dissent (often centred in its famous subterranean Bistro) but by the new millennium the building was in need of complete replacement to serve a rapidly expanding production and participation programme. Haworth Tompkins’ brief was to design a technically advanced and highly adaptable new theatre that would retain the friendly, democratic accessibility of the old building, project the organisation’s values of cultural inclusion, community engagement and local creativity, and encapsulate the collective identity of the people of Liverpool. -

Faye Xiao, Advisor Date approved: 03/23/2015 ii ABSTRACT With China’s increasingly globalized economy and Hollywood’s notorious role in the global culture industry, scholars are taking particular interest in the effect of transnational commodification on Chinese culture. This paper studies the relationship between Hollywood and the Chinese culture industry, using China’s reception of the 1998 film Titanic as a case study to explore the complex institutions at play in the production, distribution, consumption and reception of Hollywood films in postsocialist China. In terms of box office revenue, Titanic remains one of the most successful films ever released in China. This paper argues that Titanic resonated with Chinese audiences not only due to elements of globalization –such as transnational capitalism and Hollywood’s hegemony distribution model- but also because the film reflects themes consistent with class consciousness rooted in recent Chinese history as well as individualism in youth culture today. This exploration of the Titanic phenomenon in China also highlights the role of transnational commodification in culture-making. -

Make it yours Manchester School of Theatre Get in on the act Who we are The Manchester School of Theatre was formally established in the early 1970s when a training Contents programme for professional actors BA Acting 06 MA Acting 10 was introduced at Manchester MA Movement Practice for Theatre 12 Metropolitan University. However, The Capitol Theatre 14 Presentation and Communication Make it yours our origins can be traced back even Skills Courses 16 further to the mid 1960s. Keen to ensure that student singers developed high level acting skills, the Northern College of Music (now the Royal Northern College of Music) established a Drama Department that was designed both to serve the professional needs of student performers and reflect the ethos and values associated with the ‘conservatoire’ model of training. Many of the teaching staff employed in the Drama Department had previously trained and worked as professional actors and it was from this group of individuals that a team was brought together to design and deliver a new acting course. Based at the old Capitol Theatre building in Didsbury, south of the city, the School that was to grow from this initiative quickly established an outstanding national and international reputation for the provision of vocational training for those seeking to pursue careers as professional performers. Our successful alumni An impressive list of alumni - that includes Julie Walters (awarded the OBE for services to drama in 1999), Anthony Sher, Steve Coogan, Amanda Burton, Richard Griffiths, Bernard Hill, Matthew Kelly, Anthony Flanagan and David Threlfall - bears testimony to the unique contribution that the School of Theatre makes to the profession it serves.
