  • Instructor: Course: Date: My Favorite Book-To-Movie Adaptation Among
Last Name 1 Name: Instructor: Course: Date: My Favorite Book-To-Movie Adaptation Among many books converted into screen adaptations, the trilogy Lord of the Rings has always been my literary passion. From the days of their releases, all parts of the movie trilogy directed by Peter Jackson confidently remain the highest-grossing films of all time. Considering the voluminous world created by J.R.R. Tolkien, it is difficult to convey the sequence of events in them; nonetheless, the director managed to portray the plot as accurately as possible. The third book, The Return of the King, is my favorite part of the trilogy, and the extended edition of the movie would be a topic of discussion; however, since it is unwise to try to cover all the events within the trilogy, I will focus on the most significant parts below. Beacon-hills (01:04:30-01:07:51) The fascinating view from the height of Minas Tirith accurately conveys the understanding of how much effort it requires from the little hobbit Pippin to climb on the tower with a signal fire and ask for help, which had been forbidden by the Steward of Gondor. There is a marvelous musical accompaniment to make the viewer wonder how the hobbit could perform his task. From the first lit fire, the movie invites us to trace how a call for help passes through lonely outposts hidden in snowy mountains and how the news finally reaches Edoras. Here, it is also important to mention the acting skills of Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Bernard Hill (Theoden).

  • Press Release
PRESS RELEASE Actor Ben Miller will turn on Cirencester’s Christmas Lights Organisers of Cirencester’s Advent Festival are delighted to announce that comedian, actor and director Ben Miller will be their special guest this year to switch on the Christmas Lights. Ben is well known for the award winning comedy sketch show Armstrong & Miller and the long suffering sidekick Bough to Rowan Atkinson’s Johnny English. He has also enjoyed success in Primeval, Dr Who and disgruntled detective Richard Poole in crime series Death in Paradise. Ben lives just outside Cirencester. He says he loves the town for its fabulous restaurants, glorious shopping, and ever-friendly locals. He is also a fan of the Love Lane industrial estate, where he likes to browse tractors and outdoor clothing of all shades and varieties. The event, which is being organised by Cirencester Town Council, will take place on Saturday November 26th from 9.00am to 9.00pm culminating with the traditional switch on ceremony from 6.30pm with the lights on and a display by Cotswold Fireworks at 7.00pm. What’s more, there will be lots of fun and surprises throughout the day as shops and businesses are being asked to help make Cirencester Sparkle by entering into the spirit of the day with special themes, entertainment and special promotions. Nick Brook, one of the organising team said “We are really pleased that so many shops this year are so keen to be part of making Advent Festival Day such a special one. We have some volunteers who have come forward to provide entertainment throughout the town during the day with busker style performances, street magic and colourful costumes and of course, we would welcome more.

  • Oxford Lecture 1 - Final Master
OXFORD LECTURE 1 - FINAL MASTER HOW TO GROW A CREATIVE BUSINESS BY ACCIDENT The legendarily bullish film director Alan Parker once adapted Shaw's famous dictum about the academic profession - "those who can, do. Those who can't teach." So far so familiar. And to many in this room, no doubt, so annoying. But he went on: "those who can't teach, teach gym. And those who can't teach gym, teach at film school." I appreciate that Oxford is not a film school, though it has a more distinguished record than any film school for supplying the talent that has fuelled the British film and TV industries for almost a century - on and off camera. Writers like Richard Curtis, who brought us 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, The Vicar of Dibley and Blackadder; or The Full Monty and Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy; directors of the diversity of Looking for Eric's Ken Loach and 24 Hour Party People's Michael Winterbottom; writer/directors like Monty Python's Terry Jones and the Thick of It's Armando Iannucci; actors and performers ranging from Hugh Grant to Rowan Atkinson; and broadcasting luminaries like the BBC's Director General Mark Thompson and News International's very own Rupert Murdoch. So, Oxford has been a pretty efficient film and TV school, without even trying. And perhaps that is Parker's point. Can what passes for creativity in film and TV ever really be taught? But here in my capacity as News International Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media (or if you prefer an acronym, NIVPOB - the final M is silent) I may be even further down Parker's food chain.
