From the days of their releases, all parts of the movie trilogy directed by Peter Jackson confidently remain the highest-grossing films of all time. Considering the voluminous world created by J.R.R. Tolkien, it is difficult to convey the sequence of events in them; nonetheless, the director managed to portray the plot as accurately as possible. The third book, The Return of the King, is my favorite part of the trilogy, and the extended edition of the movie would be a topic of discussion; however, since it is unwise to try to cover all the events within the trilogy, I will focus on the most significant parts below. Beacon-hills (01:04:30-01:07:51) The fascinating view from the height of Minas Tirith accurately conveys the understanding of how much effort it requires from the little hobbit Pippin to climb on the tower with a signal fire and ask for help, which had been forbidden by the Steward of Gondor. There is a marvelous musical accompaniment to make the viewer wonder how the hobbit could perform his task. From the first lit fire, the movie invites us to trace how a call for help passes through lonely outposts hidden in snowy mountains and how the news finally reaches Edoras. Here, it is also important to mention the acting skills of Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Bernard Hill (Theoden).

Additionally, the animated series will introduce new characters – the first-ever female Rescue Bot “Quickshadow” voiced by Alex Kingston (“ER”) and “Chickadee” voiced by Kristen Schaal (“Bob’s Burgers”). TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS will also celebrate its 100th episode milestone this season. In the season four back-to-back premiere episodes “New Normal” and “Bridge Building,” the invasion of an evil alien race forces the Rescue Bots to reveal their true extraterrestrial identities to the citizens of Griffin Rock. But before the townspeople vote on whether to let the robots in disguise stay in their town, the Autobots are transported to the Sahara Desert and must band together with their human counterparts to get home safely. Throughout the action-packed season, the Bots work tirelessly on a new project, construction of the Mainland Training Center and continue to test the powerful “Groundbridge” portal that allows them to transport between their firehouse headquarters and training center. TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS follows the adventures of four young Transformers and their human counterparts – a family of emergency responders with 12-year-old Cody Burns at the center.

Date of review: 22nd October, 2009 Several years ago, audiences in both the UK and Australia were introduced to the wondrous BBC drama Life on Mars. Taking its name from a David Bowie song, Life on Mars followed the intriguing exploits of a 2006 Manchester cop, Sam Tyler, (played by the wonderful John Simm) who was hit by a car and seemingly sent back in time to 1973. The show functioned as a compelling psychological thriller, following Tyler’s efforts to discover what had sent him back in time (was he in a coma, dying, dreaming, or in some kind of limbo-land or Purgatory?) and his attempts to escape 1973 and get back to his life in 2006. At the same time, the show was a loving and at times hilarious re-creation of the 1970s British cop-show milieu (think of The Sweeney crossed with The Professionals, but shot with today’s filmmaking technology), and it featured the wonderful Philip Glenister as the now-iconic DCI Gene Hunt, a politically- incorrect, hilariously foul-mouthed and utterly lovable character who infuriated Tyler as often as he helped him in his various quests. Life on Mars was a critical and commercial hit, and it spawned a tremendously effective second series. The characters central to Life on Mars were both sympathetic and fascinating, the writing and direction of the episodes occasionally awe-inspiring, and the mystery at the heart of the entire show was brilliantly handled to the very end.
