Recently we took the ballads of our children's book, Bin-A-Lake and turned them into music. We then entered these songs into the Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) competition.

We are delighted to announce that we have been selected in the top 30, out of thousands of entries.

In December this list will be narrowed down to the top 10, so we are ever hopeful that we reach this milestone..

The McClymonts

The McClymonts were discovered by Universal Records in 1997 when they were per- forming at the Gympie Muster, which saw eldest sister Brooke McClymont signed to the label. After middle sister Samantha McClymont went solo, Universal decided to sign them as a trio in February 2006. 2006 - The McClymonts EP The band recorded their first release The McClymonts at the Rocking Horse Studios in Byron Bay with producer Steve James. The success of the EP lead to 'The Outback to the Beaches Tour', with fellow country singer . Something That My Heart Does" was the first track released from the EP and was a hit on the radio charts, peaking at number three. "Baby's Gone Home" was the sec- ond and last song released from the EP and became their first song to reach number one on the country music and radio charts. On 16 August 2006 the group performed at the ARIA Hall of Fame Induction at The Regentin Melbourne performing the song "" by ARIA Hall of Fame inductee .

2007 - In February 2007 The McClymonts went to Nashville to record and write their first studio Chaos and Bright Lights with writers such as (), Eric Silver (Dixie Chicks), (LeAnn Rimes), Nathan Chapman, Steve Diamond () and Frank Myers. In Australia they wrote with Rod McCormack and recording artist Shane Nicholson. The album peaked at number thirty-seven on the Australi- an ARIA Albums Chart.

2008 Chaos and Bright Lights was nominated for "Best Country Album" at the 21st ARIA Awards.

2010 - The McClymonts recorded their second album Wrapped Up Good in Nashville in late 2009 with producer Adam Anders.

2011 The McClymonts toured extensively in the USA during 2011, promoting the American release of Wrapped Up Good.

2012 - Two Worlds Collide McClymonts' third studio album, Two Worlds Collide, it won the award in the Best Coun- try Album category. In 2013 it won Country Music Awards of Australia for Video Clip of the Year and Top Selling Album of the Year. 2014 - Here's To You & I The follow-up album to Two Worlds Collide. Walk Up Artist Information

All walk-up artists wishing to be included in the program must add their name to the list provided at the entrance table on arrival. The Social's Programming Committee organise the evening's program (i.e. the time in which you appear on stage) from this list. Please direct any enquiries regarding the walk-up program to the program- ming committee backstage rather than the ladies on the entrance table. The Program- ming Committee is authorised to manage the schedule as they see fit to ensure a suc- cessful night's entertainment. The Social’s Program Committee will do their best to slot you into the program, but with limited time available it is not always possible to accommodate everyone. Please refer to the white board (left of the stage) which will display the order in which walk-up artists appear. Each artist may perform two songs, with no encores, three songs for duets, or a total of 15 minutes for bands. Please advise the stage hands if you require backing. Chord charts for backing musicians are always helpful and preferable. There is a room behind stage for your preparation. You must be report to the stage hands and be ready and waiting back stage at least 10 minutes before your perfor- mance. Please ensure instruments are tuned before going on stage. Enjoy your per- formance and we hope to see you join us again soon.

Funnies

A tour coach driver took a group of American tourists from Sydney to Melbourne. Throughout the journey there was one particular dude who kept telling the driver that they build things bigger and faster in the USA than in Australia. The driver was ready to throw him off the bus, but valued his job so just sat there tak- ing all this in silently. When they got to Melbourne the driver deliberately did not mention the Westgate Bridge. It was not long before the loud mouthed dude suddenly stood up and said: “driver what is that?” pointing at the bridge. The driver replied, “I have no idea mate it wasn't there yesterday!”

Learn to Read Sheet Music—Part 3

The opposite may also happen, we can shorten the amount of time a note should be held, relative to the quarter note. Faster notes are signified with either flags, like the ones discussed above, or with beams between the notes. Each flag halves the value of a note, so a single flag signifies 1/2 of a quarter note, a double flag halves that to 1/4 of a quarter note, et cetera. Beams do the same, while allowing us to read the music more clearly and keep the notation less cluttered. As you can see, there’s no differ- ence in how you count the eighth and 16th notes above.

But what happens when there isn’t a note taking up each beat? It’s easy, we take a rest! A rest, just like a note, shows us how long it should be held based on its shape.

REDLANDS MODERN COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB 20

Step 2: Pick Up the Beat In order to play music, you need to know its meter, the beat you use when dancing, clapping or tapping your foot along with a song. When reading music, the meter is presented similar to a fraction, with a top number and a bottom number, we call this the song’s time signature. The top number tells you how many beats to a measure, the space of staff in between each vertical line (called a bar). The bottom number tells you the note value for a single beat, the pulse your foot taps along with while listening.

In the example above, the time signature is 4/4, meaning there are 4 beats per bar and that every quarter note gets one beat. try counting along 1,2,3,4 – 1,2,3,4 with the beat numbers above. In the example below, the time signature is 3/4, meaning there are 3 beats per bar and that every quarter note gets one beat.

This is a series of basic lessons, so there will be a little each month
