If you have the chance to go to Canberra, take it especially if it’s a school excursion. Tyler Tuckwell On my trip to Canberra I would rate it a 10/10 because it was the BEST excursion I have ever been on so far. Sincerely, Joseph Sampson Woolomin Public School 5 Year 6 Canberra excursion recount On Monday the 17th May 2021, 49 Year 6 students from the schools Tintinhull, Duri, Attunga, Dungowan, Currabubula, Nundle, Moonbi, Woolomin, Bendemeer departed for the capital city of Australia, Canberra. Tuesday was the first day of events. Starting off with eating breakfast at 7:30 in the morning then depart for the National Capital Exhibition Centre 8:30, where we learnt about the decisions made to make Canberra what it is today. Next the group was to depart to the Royal Mint of Australia at 10:30 where we learnt of all the machines that de- velop the everyday coins we use, it’s also where I spent $3 on a custom coin. 12:00 we left for the War Memorial of Australia. 2:30 we left for the Government House. At 4:00 the bus departed for the accommodation where we spent the night. Wednesday was the most important day of the trip it was when we visited Parliament House. Parlia- ment House was lots of fun. We saw where the politicians met and had our own little house meeting in the education room. We also visited National Gallery, High Court and Questacon. Thursday was my favourite day as we went to the AIS where there was a mini basketball court, a soc- cer projector where you kicked the ball up against a projected screen where the arcade goalkeeper tried to block it. iPlay was fun as well as the Telstra Tower. My favourite was definitely iPlay where we had free roam of arcade games as well as one game of laser tag and one game of bumper cars. Personally, laser tag was the best as it was the second time I have ever played it. Tobias Douglas Woolomin Public School 6 Canberra On Monday, 17th of May, Year six from nine differ- ent schools departed for Canberra for the next five days. On Tuesday 18th of May, we went to the National Capital Exhibition Centre and learnt about Canber- ra’s past, how the city was built and we got to look at a really cool model of most of Canberra. Next, we went to The Royal Australian Mint where we got a guided tour and we got to see how the mon- ey was made. The tour guide told us that 5 barrels of $2 coins is about one million dollars! On Wednesday, 19th of May we got to go to Parlia- ment House and saw the lego model of the Parlia- ment House. We also go to learn about law and how we make them. After that, we went to the Sculpture Gardens, the High Court of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia and we also went to Questacon! Wednesday was my favourite day of the Canberra trip. On Thursday, 20th of May we went to Old Parlia- ment House and saw the Speaker’s Chair and learnt about the big debate over if they should take it to the present Parliament House. Then, we split up into two groups and we went to the Telstra Tower while the other half went back into Old Par- liament House, after that we went to the AIS and then our half went back into Old Parliament House. My favourite part would have been Questacon, although the gift shop was expensive it was still very cool. There were about eight galleries and heaps of things to do including the Lightning Maker and the Earthquake Machine which makes you feel like you’re in a real earthquake!
