The CFA 2016 TOUR

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Austral- ia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parlia- ment and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Parents of children who attended the 2016 Canberra Tour will have the rebate credited to their school account and they may use it to help cover future school costs. Some of the many positive statements made by the students are included below. I think the Canberra Camp was a great experience and I highly recommend it as a great fun and exciting learning experience for other schools. Adrianna The Australian Institute of Sport was an awesome experience to see the swimming, men’s gymnastics and men’s volleyball. The new and old Parliament Houses were both very exciting to see and it was great to see where the pol- iticians, Speaker and Prime Minister sit. It was also great to sit in the Senate and House of Representa- tives. Mikayla My favourite place in Canberra was the because it was fascinating to see how the coins were made. Bridget K My Canberra experience was brilliant! We went to and I went to the outside part that was 166 metres high and 850 metres above sea level. Noah The was fabulous because there were weapons, uniforms, vehicles and much more. Jed As a student, I would highly recommend a Canberra Camp for the school, full of learning opportunities and great experiences. Kate My favourite thing to do was to test my bravery on the free fall at . It’s a vertical slide where you hang on to a bar above the slide and you have to have enough confidence to let go and slide down it. Oliver The new Parliament was fantastic. I liked seeing the House of Representatives and the Senate. I came out of there with a brain full of knowledge. Finlay Excellent is one of the words to describe this year’s Canberra Camp. Every day I woke up wondering what exciting things we’d do today. On the last day I felt we needed a longer stay because time had gone way too fast. Canberra has stunning scenery and architecture.
