Such an event would bring nationally and internationally known performers to our community while also supporting local and regional musical talent. It would be family-oriented and provide much more than just performers on stage, including children’s entertainment, vendors, food and drink, workshops, camping and jamming. It would bring visibility to the Flagstaff area’s natural, cultural and lifestyle riches and generate traffic to boost area business and tourism. To be successful it would require the involvement of the larger Flagstaff community in the form of audience, volunteers and the support of sponsoring businesses. AUDIENCE In 2013 Pickin’ in the Pines will attract an estimated 2,200 ticketed guests. We typically draw our audience from Flagstaff and northern Arizona, Phoenix metro area, Tucson, the greater Southwest, California, elsewhere in the United States and Europe. 2010 surveys indicated: 98% rated the overall event a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1-5 (quality production effort); 68% live >30 miles from Flagstaff (visitors that need services); 35% camped, 14% stayed in hotels (generating .24 room nights per respondent); 46% attended the event previously (generating loyal audience). The Pickin’ in the Pines audience spends dollars that benefit our community. PERFORMERS Our exciting lineup of performers for 2013 include headliners, The Infamous Stringdusters, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, The Kruger Brothers; national acts, Chatham County Line, The Freight Hoppers, Kathy Kallick Band; popular regional bands; Jeff Scroggins & Colorado, Burnett Family Bluegrass, Muskellunge Bluegrass, The Railsplitters; local favorites, Mars Hillbillies, Anam Cara and the Boys, Slugs from Space; incredible children’s entertainers, Chuck Cheesman (Dancing with No Shoes On), and Todd’s Musical Petting Zoo (must be experienced to unlock the magic). SPONSORS PIP13 Who We cannot produce this festival without the invaluable support of sponsoring businesses and granting organizations. Cash and in-kind support from sponsors lowers our cost of production. In turn we can better meet our goal of producing a family-friendly, affordable festival. Please help build this cultural institution for Flagstaff this year and into the future. AMPHITHEATER The Pepsi Amphitheater offers a covered stage and large grassy bowl surrounded by our sweet- smelling Ponderosa pine forest. Easy to access from downtown Flagstaff and area hotels, the amphitheater is just the right size to bring a family, friends, or a date and enjoy music, vendors, food and drink, activities and workshops among a great big music-loving family! WORKSHOPS Each year we build amazing workshops into the weekend schedule. Some of our greatest performers are the most generous with their time and agree to lead workshops as well as entertain. Musicians, of course, attend but even festival goers who aren’t musicians attend for an inside glimpse of the magic, dedication and creativity of the musical journey. CAMPING Camping and associated jamming are as much a tradition at bluegrass events and festival attendees embrace them enthusiastically. It’s not unusual for our festival’s performers to also seek out campground jam circles in the evenings after their stage shows are complete. Some of the best – and most interactive – music can occur in our campgrounds. PICKIN’ IN TOWN The larger Flagstaff community also participates in our celebration of all things musical this weekend in September.
