Housing Associations also have to let at least half of all vacancies to people who are nominated to them from local authority waiting lists. You should therefore also register with your local council if you want to be considered for nomination.
Council Housing
Local authority housing is long term, low rent accommodation. As a result it is in very high demand and you should consider choosing as many areas as possible to increase your chances of being offered a property. Most local authorities operate a points scheme based on your housing need, however, the points scheme may vary from County to County.
