Salary: £27-30k depending on experience (pro rata) Music Theatre Wales is one of Europe’s leading contemporary opera companies, recognised since its formation in 1988 as a vital force in opera, presenting bold new work that is characterised by the powerful impact it makes on audiences and artists alike. We work in association with the UK’s leading contemporary music ensemble, the London Sinfonietta, with whom all our productions are performed. In 2020, we will deliver two contrasting new works: February/March 2020 • Denis & Katya by Philip Venables and Ted Huffman has already proved to be an outstanding success with our co-producers at Opera Philadelphia where the work has been acclaimed as a totally new way of using opera and music theatre to engage with current social issues. Alongside this, we will run a Young People’s Consultation and Creative Project aimed at hard-to-reach young people in Newport and Mold. June/July and Autumn 2020 • Violet will be an equally powerful contemporary work which presents a female- centred plot that stands in stark contrast to most of the operatic canon. Along with detailed information on the Water Watch Wales (WWW) website, this summary will help to inform and support delivery of local environmental improvements to our groundwater, rivers, lakes, estuaries and coasts. Select and targeted stakeholder engagement has taken place. The project website, consultation materials and press news are now publicly available online. Full public consultation is due to begin on 1 September 2019. A planning application is planned for submission later in the Autumn 2019. The Proposals Theatr Clwyd occupies an elevated site, on the outskirts of Mold, Flintshire, on the edge of a civic campus shared with the Shire Hall Council offices and courts complex. The context is dominated by landscape and open countryside with significant views from the front of the building. The main entrance is to the south; there is public road access and a car park at front and delivery and staff road access at back of site. The proposals aim to fully refurbish and transform Theatre Clwyd, improving access for the whole of the community, partners and stakeholders. It is intended that performance spaces, public areas and visitor experiences are enhanced as a result, along with new and revitalised events, learning and meeting spaces and refurbished back of house, making and rehearsal facilities.
