Former international referee Ed Morrison has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list. Ed was an international referee for 11 years and became England's first full-time professional rugby union referee. He took charge of the 1995 World Cup final when South Africa defeated New Zealand after extra time in Johannesburg and remains the only Englishman to have refereed a Rugby World Cup Final. Ed took up refereeing in 1982 following injury and progressed rapidly, being appointed to the International Referee Panel in 1989. He went on to officiate in 42 international rugby matches during a period in the game when international matches were significantly less plentiful than they are today. After retiring from officiating in 2001, Ed took on a referee development role within the RFU. He became the Elite Referee Unit Development Manager in 2003 and Head of Elite Referee Development in July 2008, a position he held until his retirement in July 2013. “I’m incredibly proud and pleased to receive this award. It’s great to have recognition for officiating which sometimes doesn’t always get the plaudits. I’m very, very happy, particularly for my family who were thrilled to find out this morning. It’s been a good day so far and hopefully there are many more to come”.Ed Morrison Although so much of his rugby life has been at the highest level of the game, Ed has remained fully committed to grassroots rugby, both in his willingness to pass on his knowledge to players, referees and administrators and in his commitment to helping to develop young referees. Ed is particularly loyal to the City of Bristol and Bristol Harlequins Club, where he was fixture secretary for over 30 years. He has been an active member of Bristol Referee’s Society for 31 years. Whenever he was not appointed to referee an international match or a match on behalf of the RFU, he would endeavour to referee at a local club – even a few days after a Rugby World Cup final. Since his retirement Ed has become an integral part of the referee’s society again, in particular, as part of the society's sub- committee responsible for the recruitment of new referees. Only recently, he has been part of a team who have visited and presented to over 30 clubs within the Bristol area in a two month period, in attempt to boost dwindling refereeing numbers. 24 0ranges. CRRS NEWSLETTER | Issue # 5 Rugby's Core Values Rugby’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are what makes the game special for those who enjoy the environment and culture they create. They define the game and define England Rugby. Teamwork Teamwork is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all because working as a team enriches our lives. We play selflessly: working for the team, not for ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play. We speak out if our team or sport is threatened by inappropriate words or actions. Respect Mutual respect forms the basis of our sport. We hold in high esteem our sport, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept their decisions. We respect opposition players and supporters. We value our coaches and those who run our clubs and treat clubhouses with consideration. Enjoyment Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We safeguard our young players and help them have fun. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family. Discipline Strong discipline underpins our sport. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game which ensure an inclusive and exciting global sport. We support our disciplinary system, which protects our sport and upholds its values. We observe the sport's laws and regulations and report serious breaches. Sportsmanship Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with teammates and opposition. We observe fair play both on and off the pitch and are generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We play to win but not at all costs and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity. Any comments or additions? Input is most welcome. Photos, events, stories please! Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.

  • Issue 119, Please Watch for Notices Around the Village
Polgooth Times Editorial Edition 118 I hope that everyone has had a Merry Christmas and the New Year has started well for you. Sadly times are getting tough and we all have to tighten our belts and watch our finances. The Polgooth Times will continue to arrive on your doormat for free BUT it will be a better read if we receive more local news and articles! Thanks must go to all our advertisers whose support ensures that the Polgooth Times is free to Polgooth residents, please show YOUR support to them. As I write this it still hasn’t got really cold in the village and after last winter’s very cold snap and snow at the end of the 2010; the warmer weather may be welcome to many of us. The current Cornwall Council waste collection contract terminates on 31 March 2012, please see the article on what will be happening after that. As yet whether we will see any changes in Polgooth is not known, but we may have changes to the collection day and how the collections are made, i.e. whether in plastic sacks, boxes or bins. As someone who probably needs to think more about healthy activities, I was hoping to take part in the New Year’s Day Walk around the village. Sadly this year it didn’t go ahead. I realised that Janice had co-ordinated the walk and when she left nothing was organised. I am therefore planning to have a walk later this year, ideally this would take place during one of the school breaks so that we can maximise the number of young people taking part.

They provide a visual presentation of the spatial distribution of the larger currently licensed water abstractions within defined catchments. Also shown are NRA monitoring sites for Flood Warning, Rainfall, Climate, Groundwater Status and Flow Gauging Sites. Information is current for the date displayed. The inclusion of reference numbers enables data to be accessed easily for further details as required, either internally or externally. When used in conjunction with the Water Quality Maps and Index, (report FWP/92/001) they provide a compatible display of 'activities' (within catchments). It has been necessary to display the information in two separate reports for clarity. Most abstractors of natural (non-mains) water supplies are required to hold a Licence under the Water Resources Act 1991. There are however some significant exceptions to this principle, the main ones are listed below * Abstractions from groundwater for own private domestic use where quantity is less than 20 cubic metres per day. * Abstractions from inland waters (surface water) on abstractors own property for either agricultural and/or own private domestic use, provided that the aggregate quantity for those uses is less than twenty cubic metres per day.
