The early in- strument, also called claro y and clarino, was a short straight tube of brass with one end carrying a cup- shaped mouthpiece and the other widening out into a bell. In the Eighteenth Century, Meyer of Hamburg made what has been called the first improvement in the trumpet — he invented a practical mouthpiece. Then occured a series of revolutionary changes.     The Benefice of Bourton on the Water with Clapton & the Rissingtons Benefice Profile Our Benefice The benefice of Bourton on the Water with Clapton & the Rissingtons is part of the North Cotswolds Deanery of the Diocese of Gloucester. The Benefice (which is now 14 years old) consists of 6 village communities, within which are 5 traditional Cotswold churches and a local ecumenical church plant (CUR:ve). Our benefice is ministered to by a full-time Rector, based in Bourton-on-the-Water, and a House for Duty Associate Minister, with special responsibility for the Rissingtons, based in Upper Rissington. There is a Reader, as well as lots of enthusiastic and capable lay involvement. The North Cotswolds Deanery is also home to a vibrant and supportive clergy chapter. Each of our villages has its own sense of community and identity, although we share the aim of making the Gospel of Jesus Christ relevant and accessible to all those who live, work and visit here. We know we live in a beautiful part of the country and readily share it with those who travel to us from all over the world; maybe you have visited! Bourton is the focal point of the benefice with shops, pubs, restaurants, doctors, dentist & Leisure Centre. Both Bourton and Upper Rissington are currently experiencing expansion with much new housing. There are lots of local primary schools (with good and outstanding OFSTED reports) and the Cotswold School in Bourton (our Secondary Academy affiliated to the Diocese) also has an outstanding OFSTED report. There was an apology from Councillor Dr Nigel Moor and one resident. 3. Declarations of interest Robert Montague declared an interest in the Planning discussion for No 20 4. Minutes of the last Parish Council meeting on 3rd December 2018. The minutes of the meeting were approved and signed. 5. Matters arising: Update on Thames Water: Following the completion of the work to install new water mains, TS confirmed that 23 out of 25 items on our snagging list had been completed. 6. Maintenance of the Green and Pond Pond: (RM). Having successfully made the first treatment to eradicate the water primrose Jack Smith will be attending once a month under the new arrangement. We are paying him £75/month for 8 months and he has a list of tasks to complete – a job he does for other parishes. He is watching for a recurrence of the water primrose. If necessary, weed killer will be used and a large rake to move the larger reeds. The Environment Agency has contacted the Clerk to enquire about future progress and RM has asked Jack Smith to be in touch with them directly to keep them updated. A letter of complaint had been received from a resident regarding the recent strimming which it was thought had had a detrimental effect on the wild flowers before they had a chance to self seed.
