I am writing to inform you that we will be commencing consultation on 6 January 2020 until 31 January 2020. During the consultation you will have the opportunity to be involved in the process and to put forward any comments you wish to make on the proposal. The Proposal As a group of Academies based in a coastal area, we are fully aware of periods in term time when attendance shows a drop due to seasonal working. Working families find it difficult to take time off work as they suffer loss of earnings and by waiting until the season is over, parents can then take advantage of cheaper holidays outside of term time. As a result, we see a rise in unauthorised absence. Having considered the needs of our local community and explored strategies for improving attendance, the Skegness Infant Academy, Skegness Junior Academy, Beacon Primary Academy, Ingoldmells Academy, Seathorne Primary Academy and the Skegness Academy (all GAT Academies) are collectively considering moving to a model of taking two weeks’ holiday in the October half term, commencing in the academic year September 2020. -

Agenda Item 11 Regulatory and Other Committee Open report on behalf of Debbie Barnes, Executive Director of Children's Services Report to: Schools Forum Date: 4th October 2017 Subject: Alternative Provision Arrangements Summary: The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of Lincolnshire's current and future Alternative Provision arrangements. Recommendation(s): The Schools Forum is asked to note the content of the report. Background 1. Context and Background Information Alternative provision is commonly defined as education outside school, arranged by local authorities or schools themselves. It can be something in which a young person participates as part of their regular timetable, away from the school site or the pupil referral unit (in Lincolnshire, Springwell Lincoln Academy) and not led by school staff. Schools are encouraged to use such provision to try to prevent exclusions, or to re-engage pupils in their education. Many secondary schools in Lincolnshire use AP in this way, dual registering pupils for behavioural intervention or to follow vocational pathways. Centres include Acorn Free School (Lincoln), Bridge House (Boston), First Steps (Boston), Build a Future (West Ashby), Good Apple (Gainsborough), Hill Holt (Norton Disney), and in N. Lincs, Fluent Coaching (Brigg). The current Ofsted Handbook requires inspectors to "find out how (AP) is monitored and evaluated, both day to day and over time. An inspector should visit the unit briefly to assess safeguarding procedures, the quality of teaching and how effectively the unit helps to improve pupils' behaviour, learning and attendance. The visit should be proportionate to the number of pupils who attend and the length of time they spend there…..Inspectors should give priority to visiting unregistered providers." LBP0018 Written evidence submitted by The Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium Education Select Committee Left behind white pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds Inquiry SUBMISSION FROM THE NORTHERN POWERHOUSE EDUCATION CONSORTIUM Introduction and summary of recommendations Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium are a group of organisations with focus on education and disadvantage campaigning in the North of England, including SHINE, Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) and Tutor Trust. This is a joint submission to the inquiry, acting together as ‘The Northern Powerhouse Education Consortium’. We make the case that ethnicity is a major factor in the long term disadvantage gap, in particular white working class girls and boys. These issues are highly concentrated in left behind towns and the most deprived communities across the North of England. In the submission, we recommend strong actions for Government in particular: o New smart Opportunity Areas across the North of England. o An Emergency Pupil Premium distribution arrangement for 2020-21, including reform to better tackle long-term disadvantage. o A Catch-up Premium for the return to school. o Support to Northern Universities to provide additional temporary capacity for tutoring, including a key role for recent graduates and students to take part in accredited training. About the Organisations in our consortium SHINE (Support and Help IN Education) are a charity based in Leeds that help to raise the attainment of disadvantaged children across the Northern Powerhouse. Trustees include Lord Jim O’Neill, also a co-founder of SHINE, and Raksha Pattni. The Northern Powerhouse Partnership’s Education Committee works as part of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) focusing on the Education and Skills agenda in the North of England. -

A few years ago a regional tourist board coined the phrase ‘Britain’s best-kept secret’ as a way to lure more visitors. This is not a tourist guide of course, but it might be fair to say that state boarding is perhaps the ‘best-kept secret’ in British education. Members of the State Boarding Schools Association represent enormous diversity. There are 38 state boarding schools right across the UK ranging in boarding numbers from under 50 to over 600. The mix of schools includes grammar schools and schools specialising in areas like agriculture or military. -
