    VARAC’s FORMULA CLASSIC CLASSIFICATIONS It is VARAC’s goal to develop an open wheel, Formula Classic, division which is strong enough to support its own grid at any VARAC attended racing event. Formula Classic grid at VARAC’s 40th Anniversary races at Shannonville, 2019 VARAC has three basic open wheel classifications which are aligned to reflect the Club’s sports car classes. They are: Formula Historic, Formula 70 and Formula 90. FORMULA HISTORIC: All Formula cars built before January 1, 1973. These are generally cars built before the evolution of slick tires and aerodynamic appendages. They include everything from Vintage Formula Juniors and 500cc Formula Threes to Formula 5000 cars. The most likely cars of this era (besides those described below) are Formula Bs, the most popular of these being the Brabham BT29. FORMULA 70: All Formula cars built from 1973 to 1989. FORMULA 90: All Formula cars built from January 1, 1990 to December 31, 1999. Many F70 and F90 cars are frequently referred to as “wings and slicks” cars, for obvious reasons. During the ‘70s and ‘80s, treadless tires and aerodynamic devises appeared on many Formula cars. Not all Formula car classes were permitted to use slick tires and/or wings, however, for example, Formula Vee and Formula Ford. Usually cost saving was the motive for restricting slicks and/or wings. In VARAC, for now at least, Formula cars are separated into the three general classifications. There are five exceptions to this rule, which are outlined below. Obviously, there are a myriad of Formula car classes and amateur and professional series which raced prior to 2000.

Vitesse! Page 3 Foreword Motorsport essentially consists of three ingredients. First, you need a motor vehicle - which can be anything from a Formula 1 car to a lawn mower, or from a MotoGP motorcycle to a pocket bike. Second, you need a driver or rider to operate the vehicle, and finally, a place to go racing - a circuit. To most people this last ingredient is probably the least interesting. The number of books about famous racing drivers and cars, or great riders and their motorcycles, is far larger than the number of books about racing circuits. However, to me circuits are the most interesting aspect of motorsport, for two main reasons. First is their great diversity: in terms of shape, layout, length, difficulty, fame and many other factors, every circuit is different, and each has its own story to tell. Second, it is fascinating to see just how many circuits there are. Once you start looking, you can find them just about any- where. Finding lost circuits or discovering long-forgotten tracks is one of the most fun aspects of researching racing circuits. When looking for information about racing circuits online, I often found it frustrating that the available sources were not complete, and that they often lacked detail and accuracy. This is one of the reasons why I started my website www.wegcircuits.nl and why I made Rennen! Races! Vitesse! - a downloadable pdf-file that lists racing circuits of past and present in four European countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Austria.

Formula/Sports Racing F 1. #28662 (Formula/Sports Racing Committee) Rain light E&O In GCR section 9.3.32.B.2, change as follows: "All Formula (open wheel) and Sports Racing cars shall be equipped with a red taillight of at least the equivalent illumination power of a 15-watt bulb. This light shall be mounted as high as possible on the centerline of the car. Light assemblies shall be considered one light for the purposes of this rule, irrespective of the number of individual lamps the assembly may contain." FA 1. #28162 (JEREMY HILL) Request higher compression ratio and prior weights for F1000 cars In FA Table 2, Formula 1000 spec line, change as follows: "Motorcycle-based 4-cycle up to 1000cc, maximum compression ratio 13.5:114.5:1; otherwise, current FA engine rules apply." 2. #28554 (Formula/Sports Racing Committee) Remove redundant wheel dimension provisions In FA, GCR section 9.1.1.A.1.h, make changes as follows: "The minimum wheel diameter is thirteen (13) inches. Ex-FSV cars are permitted front wheel width: minimum six (6) inches, maximum eight (8) inches; rear wheel width: minimum eight (8) inches, maximum ten (10) inches.
