Paramount Collection Airtight To control the air is to rule the world. Nuclear testing has fractured the Earth's crust, releasing poisonous gases into the atmosphere. Breathable air is now an expensive and rare commodity. A few cities have survived by constructing colossal air stacks which reach through the toxic layer to the remaining pocket of precious air above. The air is pumped into a huge underground labyrinth system, where a series of pipes to the surface feed the neighborhoods of the sealed city. It is the Air Force, known as the "tunnel hunters", that polices the system. Professor Randolph Escher has made a breakthrough in a top-secret project, the extraction of oxygen from salt water in quantity enough to return breathable air to the world. Escher is kidnapped by business tycoon Ed Conrad, who hopes to monopolize the secret process and make a fortune selling the air by subscription to the masses. Because Conrad Industries controls the air stacks, not subscribing to his "air service" would mean certain death. When Air Force Team Leader Flyer Lucci is murdered, his son Rat Lucci soon uncovers Conrad's involvement in his father's death and in Escher's kidnapping. Rat must go after Conrad, not only to avenge his father's murder, but to rescue Escher and his secret process as well. The loyalties of Rat's Air Force colleagues are questionable, but Rat has no choice. Alone, if necessary, he must fight for humanity's right to breathe. Casting the Pilot Guest: John Levey [Intro
The West Wing Weekly 0.17: Casting the Pilot Guest: John Levey [Intro Music] HRISHI: You’re listening to a special bonus episode of The West Wing Weekly. I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. JOSH: And I’m Joshua Malina. And this episode first aired now. HRISHI: Today, we’re talking to casting director John Levey. He’s responsible for casting the pilot episode of The West Wing and the first two seasons. JOSH: That’s right. We’ve wanted this interview for a while, but it seems fitting now as we’re reaching the end of the series and the podcast that we go back and take a look at the original assembly of this amazing cast. HRISHI: It’s true. I’m getting a little nostalgic as we reach the end, and yeah, I think going back to the beginning feels right. JOSH: That’s right. Fortune step in, and an unsuccessful audition for SEAL Team put me in the same room with John Levey. HRISHI: Were you auditioning for a show called SEAL Team or were you actually trying to become a member of the Seal Team? JOSH: No, there’s a new show that takes place behind the scenes of a circus and I was going to be the seal trainer. [Hrishi laughs] JOSH: I was very excited about it, but it’s not I [crosstalk] - someone else is going to get that job. HRISHI: [crosstalk] That’s too bad. JOSH: Yeah, it seemed like a good job for me. HRISHI: This might be the time to announce my new role on a show where we work in a factory putting stickers on things and really just kind of approving things with a little bit of wax and a stamp. -
“A Change Is Gonna Come” (Live from Sketchfest) Guests: Mary Mccormack and Roman Mars
The West Wing Weekly 6.07: “A Change Is Gonna Come” (Live from SketchFest) Guests: Mary McCormack and Roman Mars [Intro Music] HRISHI: Live from SketchFest at the Marines Memorial Theatre... JOSH: Semper fi! HRISHI: ...this is The West Wing Weekly. I am Hrishikesh Hirway. JOSH: And I am Joshua Malina. And this is the latest I have ever been awake. [Audience laughter] HRISHI: Thank you all for coming. Thanks so much for being here past your bedtime. JOSH: Late Show! HRISHI: Thanks so much to everyone from SketchFest for inviting us back. We have an exciting show for you--today we're talking about Episode 6:07 it's called “A Change Is Gonna Come.” JOSH: The teleplay by John Sacret Young and Josh Singer. It was directed by Vincent Misiano and it first aired on December 1, 2004--my 8th wedding anniversary. HRISHI: Whoo Hoo. [audience claps] JOSH: YEAH!! HRISHI: Here is a little bit about what happens in this episode: President Bartlet is supposed to go to China for a summit, a huge diplomatic mission. And Josh has been organizing it, but the whole thing threatens to unravel when the president accepts a flag of the Taiwanese Independence movement. Meanwhile, the primaries haven’t started yet, but the battle for the nomination definitely has. Hoynes returns with his book Full Disclosure, plus Vice President Russell squares off with the person widely seen as the favorite: Governor Baker of Pennsylvania. JOSH: That...is not the episode I watched… [Audience laughter] JOSH: But we’re here, so let’s do it. -

“Memorial Day” Guest: Josh Singer [Intro Music] HRISHI: You're Listening to the West Wing Weekly
The West Wing Weekly 5.22: “Memorial Day” Guest: Josh Singer [Intro Music] HRISHI: You're listening to The West Wing Weekly. I’m Hrishikesh Hirway. JOSH: And I'm Joshua Malina. HRISHI: And today we're talking about the season finale of season five. It's called Memorial Day. JOSH: It was written by John Sacret Young and Josh Singer. It was directed by Christopher Misiano and it first aired on May 19th in the year 2004. HRISHI: Here's a little synopsis: “Memorial Day” is the season finale, and in it, President Bartlet wrestles with what to do in response to the killing of American officials in Gaza. But even as he weighs the options, the situation keeps escalating, with Israel and Palestine attacking each other in retaliation and counter-retaliation. Meanwhile, Josh finds himself being used as a proxy for back channels with the Palestinian Prime Minister, and Charlie and Toby try to ready the President for throwing out the first pitch at an Orioles game in Camden Yards. Coming up later, we're gonna talk with one of the writers of this episode, Josh Singer. He's an Oscar winner for the film Spotlight, which he co-wrote. He also co-wrote The Post, and he wrote the new film First Man. JOSH: How about that? That's a good get. HRISHI: Yep. But first, let's talk about this episode a little bit. Josh what did you think? JOSH: I liked this episode. I thought a good continuation of the last and a good end of the season. -
