La 1ª edición de la Vuelta, con 3.425 km repartidos en 14 etapas, se disputó en 1935, siendo organizada por el diario Informaciones (en base a la idea original de Clemente Lopez Doriga) y con victoria para el belga Gustaaf Deloor. Los primeros años fueron muy complicados, tanto por las dificultades económicas de los organizadores como por causas externas, dejando de disputarse la carrera durante la Guerra Civil española, la 2ª Guerra Mundial, en 1949, y de 1951 a 1954, cuando el Diario Ya renunció a organizar la prueba (se había hecho cargo en 1945). En 20 años de existencia apenas se habían podido celebrar 9 ediciones. A partir de 1955 la carrera ya no sufrió más interrupciones, primero bajo el mando del El Correo Español/El Pueblo Vasco (1955 a 1978), y mas tarde de Unipublic, organizadora de la prueba desde 1979 hasta la actualidad. Pero eso no significa que La Vuelta haya atravesado un “camino de rosas” desde entonces, estando a punto de desaparecer en 1979 y teniendo que cambiar en 1995 las tradicionales fechas de abril/mayo por el mes de septiembre para poder mantener una participación aceptable. -

Sklon sice nebyl nijak extrémní, převážně mezi 6-8%, ale to kompenzovala značná délka, pro hrubou představu taková 20 kilometrová “třebovtovka“… Mezi profíky tentokrát nebojoval žádný český jezdec, a přesto zrovna tato časovka měla pro mnohé české cyklisty zvláštní kouzlo, neboť těsně sousedila s oblíbenou cyklistickou destinací Lago di Garda, a mnozí si jí v minulosti vyzkoušeli naostro.
