By Ernest Bradbury of the Most Significant Events to Which I Would Add the Mention (7.12) of One Janet Baker As a Singer to Watch

GUIDE TO THE ERNEST BRADBURY ARCHIVE 19'

This year includes a summar>' by Ernest Bradbury of the most significant events to which I would add the mention (7.12) of one Janet Baker as a singer to watch. It is also tantalising to think of Poulenc visiting Leeds (3.11). The latter half of the year yields (or so it seems to me) the most telling work. A Bradford centenary performance and a return to the cause of Leeds’ music (22.11); Dr.Melville Cook’s farewell concert at Halifax (23.11) and in the Grillers" concert (30.11) that blend of humour and information which made his work so acceptable to musicians, music-lovers and all other readers alike. Everyone may ponder with advantage that "religion remains the same: our perception of it changes". Or "we may be exhilarated or exhausted by climbing the mountain, but the mountain remains the same"; and ’you scale the peaks., but do not remain there". All of which examples he uses to attempt to convey the experience of receiving music.

Musical events which are listed as previews do not have their contents listed (see the Miscellaneous sectionjand 1 regret that there are so many carbon copies rather than cuttings and also omissions which the Brotherton may hopefully be abje jx> photocopy ^ as they hold the Yorkshire Post.
