Tanabe2) 1)Institute of Biology and Soil Science, Vladivostok-22, 690022, Russia 2) Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, 920-1192, Japan Six assemblages of the ground beetles are recognized and described in the natural and anthropogenic ecosystems of the Muravjev-Amursky peninsula. The ecological differentiation of carabid beetles assemblages becomes apparent in the number of species and composition of species, and remains permanent for a studied period. Rural biodiversity in East Asia is at risk due to the loss of habitat diversity, and good indicators are needed to evaluate diverse habitats in rural landscapes. We examined whether the higher taxa (classes and orders) of soil invertebrates discriminated among several types of secondary forests such as broad-leaved deciduous forests, conifer forests and bamboo forests, primary forests, grasslands and/or wetlands, better than species assemblages of a well-established indicator, ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae and/or Staphylinidae), in three East Asian regions (Japan, South Korea and the Russian Far East). We collected soil invertebrates with pitfall traps and used community composition and an ordination technique to test their performance as indicators. In Japan, the higher taxa of soil invertebrates discriminated finely among a wide range of habitats, and soil moisture seemed to be an important factor underlying habitat arrangement by these taxa along an ordination axis. -

Tom. 28, No. 2/2012 ISSN 1454-6914 CHANGES IN CARABID COMMUNITIES (INSECTA: COLEOPTERA) ALONG AN URBANIZATION GRADIENT IN MADRID (SPAIN) ŠUSTEK Zbyšek Abstract. The Carabids were pitfall-trapped in Madrid in 43 sites in the city interior and in its surroundings from late June to early August 1986. Altogether 78 species were recorded. They represented 6.7% of the Carabid fauna of the Iberian Peninsula. The communities consisted exclusively of small or medium sized species. There was not recorded any species of the genus Carabus in the city interior in spite of the fact that there exist very extensive areas of seminatural vegetation like the Casa de Campo park. However, their absence in the material from such places could result just from the fact that the sampling took place in the warmest and driest part of the year. Unlike cities in other areas, the Carabid communities of Madrid consisted of a considerable portion of West Mediterranean species or even of the Iberian endemics like Calathus granatensis. In contrast, in the city interior, especially in watered grassy plots, an obvious convergence to the fauna of Central European cities and, at a more general level, even to the East Asian cities was observed. The species of larger distributional areas prevailed there. The communities in the seminatural habitats showed very low diversity indices, similarly as in the analogous habitats in Central Europe. In seminatural habitats a considerable portion of highly specialized granivorous species of the genera Ditomus, Carterus and Acinopus was recorded. The carabid beetle assemblages were examined at four kinds of habitats(levee, dike, forest patch remnants and streamside) from three differently stressed areas located in Paltan-myun, Hwaseong city, Korea: agricultural and forest area(site 1), industrial area(site 2), and residential area(site 3). Pitfall trap samplings were carried out 39 times from November 2000 to November 2002. Our study's findings were that the composition of carabid beetle fauna, dominance species, and pattern of carabid beetle assemblage were different among the habitats. The similarity index was highest between two levees in site 2 and 3, and lowest between hillock in site 2 and streamside in site 3, and that among habitats fragmented by road with high traffic was lower than that among any other habitat types. So, we could know that agricultural land use respectively do an important role in diversity conservation and networking. These findings will be used to establish the land use and management plans in the aspects of conservation of biodiversity.
