For the first time the carabid fauna of the area of Cape Emine (the middle of the Bulgarian Black sea coast) was studied. Over the period 2010 – 2012 adult carabid beetles were collected. Investigations were performed at 13 sampling sites and pitfall traps were used. During the study a total of 12618 specimens were captured. They belonged to 134 species, classified into 46 genera, 18 tribes, and 3 subfamilies. Dyschirius rufipes Dejean, 1825 and Laemostenus janthinus (Duftschmid, 1812) were reported as new species for the carabid fauna of Bulgaria. Three species were new for the fauna of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Fifty-four species were defined as new for the area of Cape Emine. Two endemics were found: Pterostichus merkli Frivaldszky, 1879 (Bulgarian endemic) and Cychrus semigranosus balcanicus Hopffgarten, 1881 (Balkan endemic). Species of ground beetles were characterized and classified according to their zoogeographical belonging, degree of endemism and rarity, habitat and humidity preferences; the life forms they refer to were determined. -

Material was pitfall trapped in 2010 and 2011 on twelve sites of the agricultural landscape in the Prešov town and its near vicinity, Eastern Slovakia. A total of 14,763 ground beetle individuals were entrapped. Material collection resulted into 92 Carabidae species, with the following six species dominating: Poecilus cupreus, Pterostichus melanarius, Pseudoophonus rufipes, Brachinus crepitans, Anchomenus dorsalis and Poecilus versicolor. Studied habitats differed significantly in the number of entrapped individuals, activity abundance as well as representation of the carabids according to their habitat preferences and ability to fly. However, no significant distinction was observed in the diversity, evenness neither dominance. -

Il tema trattato non è di per sé nuovo, dato che ampissima è la letteratura scientifica che descrive l’utilizzo dei Carabidi come bioindicatori, ma originale è l’inserimento di questa valutazione all’interno di una prova molto più ampia di confronto tra metodi di coltivazione diversi, biologico e tradizionale (MASCOT). In questa sperimentazione, per svariati anni, sono stati seguiti protocolli di coltivazione controllati e, fatto interessante, i terreni a confronto sono contigui, in modo da minimizzare l’influenza di ubicazioni diverse, come spesso avviene in analoghi lavori. -

FACCHINI The ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) of three horticultural farms in Lombardy, Northern Italy () Abstract - Ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were surveyed across three hor- ticultural farms, located in a peri-urban area, in the Po plain in Lombardy (Northern Italy) from April 2003 to March 2005. Their biodiversity was estimated using pitfall traps. A total of 29 genera and 39 species were collected. Notes on ants and spiders presence were also furnished. Land use seemed to have a significant effect on the number and composition of the species: catches were lower in the conventional farm and higher in biological farms. Apart from land use, all the species detected have already been recorded as frequent in agricultural fields and are characteristic of lowland agroecosystem in Northern Italy. Riassunto - I Coleotteri Carabidi di tre aziende orticole lombarde Si riferisce di un’indagine biennale (aprile 2003 - marzo 2005) effettuata sui Co- leotteri Carabidi di tre aziende orticole lombarde inserite in un contesto periurbano nella Pianura Padana. La biodiversità di tale famiglia è stata stimata utilizzando trappole a caduta. È stato catturato un totale di 39 specie afferenti a 29 generi. Vengono fornite indicazioni anche dei formicidi e ragni catturati nelle stesse trap- pole. La gestione aziendale sembra aver avuto un ruolo significativo sul numero e sulla composizione delle specie: le catture erano significativamente più basse nell’azienda convenzionale rispetto a quelle biologiche. Indipendentemente dalla gestione aziendale le specie catturate sono comunque comuni nei campi coltivati e caratteristiche degli agroecosistemi del nord Italia. -

This paper concerns the life-cycle of Carabus dufouri Dejean 1829, one of the most representative species of Carabus in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. The study is based on data of the annual activity patterns in the natural habitat, on anatomical ob servations related to the sex and age of the specimens, on the reproductive condition of females and, finally, on the results of labora tory rearing experiments carried out to study the oviposition patterns and the course of development of immature stages. The results indicate that C. dufouri shows the annual rhythm of autumn breeders. However, the rhythm may also be related to the winter-breeder type ofNorth Africa. The fauna of Carabidae in Azarbaijan, Iran, is very diverse and has not been studied thoroughly. In the following paper, this group of beneficial predators is studied, using samples taken through 2007–2010 across Azarbaijan. Species belonging to 12 subfamilies were collected from 24 different localities. Among this diverse fauna, 3 species, Broscus cephalotes (Linnaeus, 1758), Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812), and Amara (Xenocelia) ingenua Duftschmid, 1812 are new records for Iranian fauna. Field work was carried out in 2018. Pitfall traps (5 in each site) were set in 10 sampling sites in Thracean Lowland and Sarnena Sredna Gora Mts. Captured beetles belonged to 66 species and 24 genera, representing 9% of the species and 19% of the ground beetle genera occurring in Bulgaria. The most diverse was genus Harpalus Latreille, 1802 (15 species), followed by the genera Amara Zimmermann, 1832 (7 species), Microlestes Schmidt-Goebel, 1846 (6 species) and Parophonus Ganglbauer, 1891 (5 species). Five species were new for the region of the Thracean Lowland: Amara (Bradytus) consularis (Duftschmid, 1812), Harpalus (Harpalus) caspius (Steven, 1806), H. (Pseudoophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812), Microlestes negrita negrita (Wollaston, 1854), Tachyura (Tachyura) parvula (Dejean, 1831). Three species: Amara (Zezea) fulvipes (Audinet-Serville, 1821), A. (Zezea) chaudoiri incognita Fassati, 1946 and Diachromus germanus (Linnaeus, 1758) were new records for the region of the Sarnena Gora. -

Matalin Moscow State Pedagogical University, Moscow, 129278 Russia e-mail: [email protected] Received April 12, 2006 Abstract—An original classification of the life cycles of ground beetles from Western Palaearctic is proposed. The classification is based on a combination of five criteria: duration, number of generations per season, phenology of reproduction, stability, and repeatability of reproduction. According to the individual lifespan, the cycles are subdi- vided into annual and biennial ones. The annual life cycles may be uni- and bivoltine, whereas biennial ones are always univoltine. By the time of reproduction, winter-spring, spring, spring-summer, early summer, summer, late summer, summer-autumnal, autumnal, autumn-winter, winter, and aseasonal species are distinguished. The biennial and bivoltine cycles may be of both facultative and obligate nature. Species living only one season and having a continuous reproductive period are designated as semelparous, while those breeding during two or more years or having several distinct periods of reproduction in one season, as iteroparous. By now, 30 variants of life cycles in Carabidae from western Palaearctic have been established. Repeated similarly directed modifications of the life cy- cle may produce essentially different seasonal rhythms in some individuals. In this case, two subpopulation groups usually appear within the population. Under the most unfavorable conditions, these groups become practically iso- lated and hibernate at different ontogenetic stages. -
