Basis of Opinion The overall rating remains as Good, as the various reports that have been collected on all of our key sustainability themes have improved year on year. 2. Sustainability Strategy A sustainability strategy has been developed and agreed in 2017/18 with key stakeholders across HRP Directorates to further focus on six key areas of sustainability, with a sponsor on the Executive Board. Regular sustainability group meetings are being held to embed the strategy into the organisation and an agenda item for sustainability will remain on the quarterly local Fire, Health and Safety Committee meetings. 3. Conserve Water This year saw a 3% decrease in water consumption at HRP. All sites continue the progress that has been made over the years, and which is now supported by regular environmental audit and impact assessments for all HRP sites. Initiatives have included: The installation of automated meter readings across the main palaces; which has enabled close monitoring of water leaks and allowed prompt repair. Grey water used at some sites where possible to irrigate and flush some of the public toilets. Some visitor toilets have been fitted with sensor taps The water pressure was reduced at the taps, thereby reducing overall consumption at some sites. Rain water and river water is used for irrigation where possible. Visitor urinals have been fitted with an electrical flow rate controller at some sites. -

A Supplementary Planning Document for Old Deer Park
Old Deer Park A SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING DOCUMENT FOR OLD DEER PARK The Old Deer Park (the Park) was established during the reign of Henry VI. It is listed as Grade I on Historic England’s Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and forms the core of the Old Deer Park Conservation Area. It is bordered by the built up areas of Richmond, the River Thames and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew World Heritage site. The area is extensive, being some 147 hectares in total, with a varied character ranging from open space and natural landscape supported by many mature trees, through to car parking, sports facilities and community buildings. The majority of the land is owned by the Crown Estate, which then leases different parts of the Park to a range of organisations. The project is ambitious for a number of reasons – but in terms of this Business Plan, most importantly because it will provide a complete step change in the level of commercial activity onsite. Turnover will increase onsite fourfold to around £1m p.a. as a direct result of the project , and expenditure will increase by around a third. This Business Plan provides a detailed assessment of the forecast operational performance of Marble Hill House and Park under the project. -

Hammersmith Bridge: proposed temporary walking and cycling bridge We’d like your views on plans for a temporary walking and cycling bridge over the river. Background The existing Grade II Listed Hammersmith Bridge requires extensive repairs to protect it for the future. The bridge is currently closed to all motorised vehicles and people are choosing to walk and cycle across it. To do the repairs to the bridge quickly and safely it is likely to have to be fully closed. To maintain this link across the river during the repairs Hammersmith & Fulham Council have asked us to consider installing a temporary walking and cycling bridge. The proposal The installation of a temporary prefabricated, 7 metre wide steel bridge alongside, and at a similar height to, the existing bridge. The proposed bridge would be: • Step-free with a 5.5 metre wide carriageway. • Accessed by shallow ramps from Queen Caroline Street from the north and from close to the junction of Castelnau and Riverview Gardens from the south. • Supported by two piers, each comprising four piles, located in the river. A Geotrail in Richmond Park 1 Richmond Park Geotrail In an urban environment it is often difficult to ‘see’ the geology beneath our feet. This is also true within our open spaces. In Richmond Park there is not much in the way of actual rocks to be seen but it is an interesting area geologically as several different rock types occur there. It is for this reason that the southwest corner has been put forward as a Locally Important Geological Site. We will take clues from the landscape to see what lies beneath. Richmond Park affords fine views to both west and east which will throw a wider perspective on the geology of London. Richmond Park is underlain by London Clay, about 51 million years old. This includes the sandier layers at the top, known as the Claygate beds. The high ground near Kingston Gate includes the Claygate beds but faulting along a line linking Pen Ponds to Ham Gate has allowed erosion on the high ground around Pembroke Lodge. Both high points are capped by the much younger Black Park Gravel, which is only about 400,000 years old, the earliest of the Thames series of terraces formed after the great Anglian glaciation. Younger Thames terrace gravels are also to be found in Richmond Park. A WALK IN TEDDINGTON: 2 The Grove Estate and Teddington Lock Start and finish at the Ferry Road traffic lights (1). This walk is approx. 2.7 miles in total Ferry Road goes to the river in one direction and to the High Street past the church in the other; Kingston Road goes off towards Kingston, and Manor Road (2) heads to Twickenham. Manor Road was built some time after 1860. Before then, the old road from Kingston to Twickenham made the sharp turn round the church from Kingston Road to Twickenham Road. The church of St Mary with St Alban (3) was the old parish church of St Mary, parts dating from the 16th century. During the incumbency of the Rev Stephen Hales (1709-61) much rebuilding was carried out, the north aisle and the tower being added. The church was continually too small for the increasing population, and in the 19th century more enlargements were carried out until a new church seemed to be the only solution. So the church of St Alban the Martyr (4) was built on the opposite side of the road. The building, which is in the French Gothic style on the scale of a cathedral, was opened in July 1896. When the new church was opened the old one was closed, but not everybody liked the new church and by popular demand St Mary’s was repaired and services were held in both churches until 1972. But by this time the number of worshippers had diminished and running expenses had risen, meaning that two churches could no longer be maintained. -
