The Islander received reports last week that several residents using shovels helped open Blind, Pass bet- ween Sanibel and Captiva. The pass had beenaslosed since mid-December Last Wednesday* however, it had opened enough to let a mullet boat slip from the bay into the gulf. When the pass is open, it is a popular fishing spot. It is also a popular thoroughfare between bay and gulf. "The dug-out trench was very obvious; the pass was manipulated, without a doubt," said one resident. Federal and state agencies take such manipulation Please see BLIND PASS, page 20A Three-pronged approach will help city determine what Islanders want An Island fantasy By BARBARA B RUN DAG E Above: The owl was a sign of Islander staff writer good luck to those who entered the enchanted forest Sunday night on a In a quest to determine what residents want for the quest to rescue the spirit of a young future on Sanibel, and for direction on how to achieve prince from the wicked spell of an those goals, the city has launched three special evil troll. projects: Left: Children mixed magical • 1.
