The school’s previous location in the nearby village of Alanyi had been attacked by the LRA in late 2002, resulting in the killing, abduction, and displacement of many innocent civilians. v17/n1 | 22 Abstract: Shaped by the horrors of the 1980s Ugandan Bush War, young Joseph Kony declared himself a prophet and deliverer of the Acholi people. Instead, his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) brutalized tens of thousands of African civilians. Heightened sensitivities to LRA atrocities led the U.S. to deploy Special Forces advisors in 2011. However, marksmanship and small unit training alone would not be enough to defeat Kony; more creative solutions were needed. n Operation OBSERVANT COMPASS, U.S. Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), UN Ipeacekeepers, and African military forces to end the violent threat of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in central Africa. Key to mission success were Joseph Kony, U.S. Army psychological operations (PSYOP) efforts an ethnic encouraging LRA members to defect. This campaign Acholi, founded helped reduce the LRA from several hundred fighters the LRA in 1987 when the operation started in October 2011, to and controlled it through less than one hundred when U.S. Africa Command fear and (USAFRICOM) ended it in April 2017. Actualmente dirige la sección de deportes del periódico ARA, participa en programas y retransmisiones de BeIN Sports y colabora en medios de comunicación como Catalunya Ràdio, RAC1, Cadena Cope o Televisió de Catalunya. Es también uno de los fundadores de la revista Panenka, de cuyo consejo editorial forma parte, y del proyecto Marcadorint.com. Es profesor del Máster de Periodismo Deportivo de la Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull. Ha cubierto tres Mundiales de fútbol, tres Mundiales de clubes y una Copa América. PEP BOATELLA Ilustrador y diseñador gráfico, nació en Barcelona en 1983. Estudió en la Escola Massana de Barcelona y desde el 2009 no ha dejado de trabajar para revistas, agencias y editoriales. En su trabajo mezcla técnicas tradicionales y digitales, siempre atento a los detalles, así como a la composición y la legibilidad de la imagen. Ha trabajado para clientes internacionales como el Corriere della sera, Oxford University Press y el Boston Globe. A nivel editorial, ilustra cubiertas de libros, así como títulos ilustrados para lectores más jóvenes. Because ofthe unique characteristics of this type of growth ­ enhancing investment, developing countries desire to attract and retain foreign direct investment (FDI).
