He aquí, pienso, la felicidad perfecta. Yo no la quiero Eduardo Galeano Parte Prima Subire l’immaginario. Ricostruire l’immaginario.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—JULY 25, 2012 Record setting adventurer’s memoir to be released August 1st. “Arguably, the most remarkable adventurer in the world today.” —London Daily Mail He survived a terrifying crocodile attack off Australia’s Queensland coast, blood poisoning in the middle of the Pacific, malaria in Indonesia and China, and acute mountain sickness in the Himalayas. He was hit by a drunk driver and left for dead with two broken legs in Colorado, and incarcerated for espionage on the Sudan-Egypt border… “A journey of great courage and determination…” —His Holiness The Dalai Lama “Two broken legs would be a trip ender for me…” An incredible amount of stamina.” — Jay Leno, The Tonight Show “An adventure of two lifetimes…” —San Francisco Chronicle THE EXPEDITION True Story of the First Human-Powered Circumnavigation of the Earth By Jason Lewis Available on Amazon and BN.com August 1, 2012, The Expedition chronicles in three parts, Lewis’s 46,505-mile journey across five continents, two oceans, and one sea using only the power of his body: walking, cycling, and inline skating the landmasses, and kayaking, rowing, swimming, and pedaling a boat across the oceans—with no assistance from motors or the wind. Lewis set four world records, and clinched what the London Sunday Times hailed as “The last great first for circumnavigation.” But it was more than just a physical challenge. Prompted by what scientists dubbed the “perfect storm” as the global population soars to 8.3 billion by 2030, adventurer Jason Lewis used the expedition to reach out to thousands of classrooms around the world, calling attention to our interconnectedness and shared responsibility of an inhabitable Earth for future generations, while raising thousands of dollars for orphaned children along the way.

Preface A Team Approach: PSYOP& LRA Defection in 2012 by Jared M. Tracy Ugandan choir students rehearse at the St. Theresa Secondary School in Lira, Uganda, 23 February 2009. The school’s previous location in the nearby village of Alanyi had been attacked by the LRA in late 2002, resulting in the killing, abduction, and displacement of many innocent civilians. v17/n1 | 22 Abstract: Shaped by the horrors of the 1980s Ugandan Bush War, young Joseph Kony declared himself a prophet and deliverer of the Acholi people. Instead, his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) brutalized tens of thousands of African civilians. Heightened sensitivities to LRA atrocities led the U.S. to deploy Special Forces advisors in 2011. However, marksmanship and small unit training alone would not be enough to defeat Kony; more creative solutions were needed. n Operation OBSERVANT COMPASS, U.S. Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), UN Ipeacekeepers, and African military forces to end the violent threat of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in central Africa. Key to mission success were Joseph Kony, U.S. Army psychological operations (PSYOP) efforts an ethnic encouraging LRA members to defect. This campaign Acholi, founded helped reduce the LRA from several hundred fighters the LRA in 1987 when the operation started in October 2011, to and controlled it through less than one hundred when U.S. Africa Command fear and (USAFRICOM) ended it in April 2017. An operational superstition. success, OBSERVANT COMPASS showcased the unique capabilities of the PSYOP Regiment. This preface explains the emergence of Kony and the LRA, providing historical context for the next article about the PSYOP role in OBSERVANT COMPASS.
