Also, FME50 suppressed OGD/R + glucose-induced activation of ASK1-JNK1/ Middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion p38 MAPK signal cascade. Furthermore, FME50 significantly reduced the MCAO/R-induced brain infarct, Nox4 NADPH oxidase MAPkinase expression via induction of Nox4-targeting three miRNAs. Additionally, FME50 suppressed MCAO/R-induced MAPK signal pathway. These results demonstrate that FME50, CFI, and CFH exert neuroprotective effects via Nox4 inhibition by the induction of Nox4-targeting miRNAs and inhibition of MAPK signal cascade, suggesting that they might be possible candidates for the treatment of cerebral ischemia. 1. The structures and absolute confgurations of the enantiomeric isofavones were established on the basic of comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and quantum chemical calculation methods. Compounds 1, 1a, and 1b exhibited neuroprotective activities against oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (ODG/R)-induced SH-SY5Y cells death with EC50 values of 5.5 µM, 4.0 µM, and 10.0 µM, respectively. Furthermore, 1, 1a, and 1b inhibited OGD/R-induced reactive oxygen species generation in SH-5Y5Y cells with IC50 values of 6.9 µM, 4.5 µM, and 9.5 µM, respectively. Maclura tricuspidata (Carr.) Bur. (syn. Cudrania tricuspidata) is a perennial plant, which is mainly distributed in the southern part of Korea. It has been used as folk remedies for gastritis, liver damage, and hypertension in Korean traditional medicine1. Currently, its fruits are consumed fresh and in juices and jams. A wide range of interspecific 2C DNA values was observed, with the largest being 10.8 times higher than the smallest. Intraspecific differences in 1Cx values, a measure of the monoploid genome size, were within 11% for all species examined. Interspecific variation in 1Cx values was within 28% for all mulberry species in this study. The variation of 1Cx values in polyploid species was larger than that in diploid species. Among the diploid species, the 1Cx values of species native to the Japanese islands were higher than those that originated from East Asia on the Asian continent. However, few relevant studies have been conducted in coastal East Asia due to a lack of undisturbed sample materials appropriate for paleoclimate studies. In this study, we examined Holocene abrupt drying events and the Holocene climate optimum (HCO) based on a new high-resolution multi-proxy record (pollen, mean grain size, total organic carbon, carbon/nitrogen ratio) from the south coast of Korea. Possible cultural impacts of the events were also explored using summed probability distributions (SPDs) of archaeological radiocarbon dates. Our arboreal pollen percentage (AP) data clearly indicated drying events centered at 9.8 ka, 9.2 ka, 8.2 ka, 4.7 ka, 4.2 ka, 3.7 ka, 3.2 ka, 2.8 ka, and 2.4 ka BP. Jarrett)1 FOREWORD The following treatments of Artocarpus, Hullettia, Parartocarpus, and Prainea are based on the monograph by Jarrett (1959–1960) and on the treatments she made for this Flora in cooperation with Dr. M. Jacobs in the 1970s. These included some new Artocarpus species described in 1975 and the re-instatement of A. peltata. Artocarpus lanceifolius subsp. clementis was reduced to the species, in A. nitidus the subspe- cies borneensis and griffithii were reduced to varieties and the subspecies humilis and lingnanensis included in var. nitidus. The varieties of A. vrieseanus were no longer recognised. More new Malesian species of Parartocarpus were described by Corner (1976), Go (1998), and in Artocarpus by Kochummen (1998). A manuscript with the treatment of the other genera was submitted by Corner in 1972. Numerous changes to the taxonomy, descriptions, and keys have been made to the original manuscripts, for which the present first author is fully responsible. Much of the controversy is related to the identity and taxonomic status of Broussonetia kaemp- feri var. australis, a name treated as a synonym in the floras of Taiwan and yet accepted in the floras of China. At the generic level, the monophyly of Corner (Gard Bull Singap 19:187–252, 1962)’s concept of Broussonetia has not been tested. In recent studies of Broussonetia of Japan, lectotypes of the genus were designated and three species (B. kaempferi, Broussonetia monoica, and Broussonetia papyrifera) and a hybrid (B. kazinoki) were recognized. Based on the revision and molecular phylogenetic analyses, this article aims to clarify these× issues. Results: Herbarium studies, field work, and molecular phylogenetic analyses indicate that all Taiwanese materials identifiable to B. kaempferi var. australis are conspecific with B. monoica of Japan and China. Molecular phylogenetic analyses showed that Broussonetia sensu Corner (Gard Bull Singap 19:187–252, 1962) contains two clades correspond‑ ing to sect. Broussonetia and sect. Allaeanthus, with Malaisia scandens sister to sect. Broussonetia. Conclusions: Based on our analyses, B. kaempferi var. australis is treated as a synonym of B. monoica and that B.
