FOI 000312-19 I Write in Connection with Your Request for Information Re March 2019 Freedom of Information Request Reference No: FOI 000312-19 I write in connection with your request for information received by Norfolk Constabulary on the 21st January 2019 in which you sought access to the following information: “For the years 2013- ‘14, 2014 - ‘15, 2015 - ‘16, 2017 - ‘18 and 2018 - 14.12.18, please provide the number incidents of animal thefts recorded by your force in each year, broken down by the species or type of animal stolen. Please provide a copy of free text report for each incident recorded. For your information, multiple forces FOI teams have so far responded using a helpful format detailing the category of animal - ie "livestock" or "poultry" or "bird of prey", details of the specific breed and details of the crime incident.” Response to your Request The response provided below is correct as of 7th February 2019 Norfolk Constabulary has located the following information as relevant to your request. 2013/14 Number of Theft Incidents by Animal Category Description Animal Type/Species Birds Chickens 1. 7 chickens stolen (32 crimes) 2. 1 cockerel and 4 chickens stolen 3. 6 chickens and 4 fertilised eggs stolen 4. 5 chickens stolen 5. 6 chickens stolen 6. Unknown persons have forced padlock on shed door and removed 7 chickens from within 7. 10 chickens stolen 8. 45 assorted variety of chickens stolen. The crime location is remote and rural and not overlooked. 9. Entry gained via a field onto IP's land and has taken approx. 120 rare chickens 10. 14 ‘Silky’ chickens stolen 11. 3 ‘pure breed’ chickens stolen 12. 7 chickens stolen 13. 5 hens stolen 14. Items taken 12 x Cuckoo Maren Hens. 15. Overnight person(s) unknown have entered farm yard and have taken 2 cockerels and 4 hens amongst other items. 16. Chickens and hutch taken 17. 2 chickens stolen 18. Hen has been taken from the allotment- beehive has also been removed and taken apart believed an attempt to remove honey may have been the target. 19. 8 very rare Taiwan Shamo birds removed from chicken coop in back garden 20. 13 rare breed chickens stolen 21. Entered garden and 7 chickens taken from within coops 22. 12 chickens, plus their feeders and waterers have also been taken. Some of these chickens are special breeds. Turkeys 1. Small quantity of live adult turkeys taken 2. 15 live adult turkeys taken 3. Offenders broke into shed unit and stole 6 turkey hens from rural farm location (isolated premises) Game Birds 1. Approximately 2500 one-day-old pheasant chicks taken 2. 1 partridge stolen 3. 250 partridges stolen 4. 250 partridges stolen Geese 1. 2 adult geese 2. 1 goose Pigeons 1. 30 racing pigeons Domestic Pets Dogs 1. 5 Chihuahua puppies stolen (24 crimes) 2. 1 Chihuahua 3. Labrador retriever 4. 6 m/o Labrador retriever bitch stolen 5. 19 bulldog puppies stolen 6. Vehicle broken into and working dog (cocker spaniel) stolen 7. Person(s) unknown have taken a cross breed puppy from a boat belonging to the victim. 8. Jack Russel Terrier 9. Kennel club registered Maltese bitch taken 10. 1 pug puppy stolen 11. Suspect has stolen victim’s new Staffordshire terrier dog from home address. 12. Male whippet dog stolen 13. Whippet stolen Cats 1. Unknown suspects have entered a private piece of land and stolen 17 chickens 25. Unknown offenders climb fence to rear garden and break the bar to a pad lock in a shed and steal 2 chickens from within. 26.     Museum of English Rural Life David Scrivener Collection D DS David Scrivener (1952 – 2015) was a committed and enthusiastic poultry- keeper. He earned a National Diploma in Poultry from Harper Adams Agricultural College in Shropshire. He utilised his expertise as a judge at various shows for the Poultry Club of Great Britain. David had a passion for rare breeds, particularly the Spanish, which he kept, and fulfilled various roles for the Rare Poultry Society, variously acting as Chairman, Honorary Historian and Patron. He was the author of several books on the subject including Starting with Bantams (2002), Exhibition Poultry Keeping (2005), Rare Poultry Breeds (2006) and Popular Poultry Breeds (2009). The Collection covers the year’s 1893 to 2007; undated. The physical extent of the collection is 17 boxes, 13 oversize items. D DS 1 Slides c. 1980 to 2015 Contains slides of various poultry species arranged by species and breed. Much of the information used here was obtained from Scrivener’s own annotations for each slide. Many of these photographs are studio portraits, used to illustrate Scrivener’s publications. A large proportion of the photographs were taken by John Tarren.
