Radyr Geography Department Iceland Trip February half term saw the Geography department’s first trip to Iceland, the ‘land of fire and ice’, and it proved to be a truly memorable experience. From majestic waterfalls to giant tears in the earth’s surface, from the vibrant capital city of Reykjavik to remote farms - we witnessed the constantly changing face of Iceland, and a community that has learnt to live with the constant threat of earthquakes and volcanoes. On arrival at Keflavik airport we immediately transferred across a barren ‘lunar’ landscape to the geothermal baths of the Blue Lagoon. The milky blue waters are set amidst black lava, and despite slightly warmer temperatures than Cardiff (at first!) the 40 plus degree waters were a fantastic welcome to Iceland.
