Anaheim is located in Orange County, California, which is the 5th most populated county in the United States. The project site is situated in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan area, the nation’s worst locale for traffic jams, according to the Urban Mobility Report from the Texas Transportation Institute, and the nation’s worst air quality as reported by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Unemployment rate: 11% Jobs lost in Anaheim past 12 months: 9,200 Transportation Challenges and Needs Jobs project will create: 1,470 Anaheim (population 345,000) is the 10th largest city in California and home to world-class tourist destinations including Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, Anaheim Convention Center, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, and the Honda Center. In 2006, Forbes Traveler ranked Anaheim the 13th most visited city in the nation, rivaling notable tourist destinations such as San Francisco (16.4 million visitors), Boston (18.3 million) and Washington, D.C. (16.6 million). The majority of guests are concentrated within a 1.75 mile radius of the proposed project. The City of Anaheim is one of the few urban centers in the nation where such a variety of entertainment, business, and transportation venues are concentrated in such a small proximity, and all accessible from a major interstate. I-5 is the north-south lifeline of California, and this is felt strongly in Anaheim. I-5 moves an estimated 390,000 vehicles per day in the proposed project area and thousands of motorists exit I-5 to visit Anaheim. Disneyland, for instance, estimates that approximately 70% of their visitors arrive to the theme park via I-5. As illustrated in Figure 1, one can quickly visualize the traffic gridlock occurring on the I-5 and surface streets as tourists, delivery trucks, hotel shuttle buses, trolleys, taxi cabs, and employees navigate to and from the major destination points with the I-5 slicing through the middle. The development of the ARTIC and Platinum Triangle, huge long-term job creating and multi-modal developments, will add pressure to existing transportation facilities. The film offers a blending of the Western and science fiction genres, and Autry employs such modern devices as aircraft, radio, television, and even laser rays to protect Radio Ranch from the predatory designs of evil scientists and business interests seeking to exploit the radium deposits found in the subterranean city of Murania, located below the ranch. Autry is able to save the ranch from these threats, both alien and domestic, by completing his scheduled radio broadcasts. The premise of the film is that 45 the Western environment may only be preserved through an adaptation to modernism, which will reduce regional isolationism and ensure the overall survival of the American West. The sheriff's department helicopter then gave a flyby and awed the crowd with the maneuvers and to welcome the players and spectators in the stands. “Bernie” the Inland Empire 66ers mascot also thrilled the crowd with his antics with the Little League Empire's. After introductions of all involved in hosting this spectacular annual event; the Western Regional Tournament - which is conducted by our own local headquarters. The facilities are immaculately groomed and manicured by a group of volunteers that take great pride in the facilities. To the participants, this feels like a major league ballpark compared to their home field. A tape recorded message from “Mr. Baseball” Vin Scully, welcomed the players, coaches and families, and to wish them the best of luck in the tournament and in their endeavors to be a winner and to be rewarded with a trip to Williamsport, PA for the Little League World Series. To pay homage to the victims of the Dec 2, 2015, terrorist attack in San Bernardino, and to recognize the first responders, a special on-field ceremony was held before the Little League Baseball® Western Regional Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 13.     The Day The Singing Cowboy Rode Into Town It’s not often a famous entertainer makes a stop in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. But on occasion it does happen. When it does, it’s a big deal. On January 18, 1950, Gene Autry came to town and put on a live show at the Oshkosh Theater in downtown Main Street. Known as “The Singing Cowboy”, Gene Autry was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. His career spanned 70 years and he was famous in motion pictures, radio, television and as a recording artist. During his career, he wrote and sang hundreds of songs, starred in 93 movies and 91 television productions. In his later years, Autry owned a television and radio station on the west coast and even owned a major league baseball team, the Los Angeles Angels.¹ Some of his Christmas songs still get play and are popular today. On that Wednesday, the city was “electric”. The local Sears store on Merritt Street invited kids to come and see Autry’s equally famous horse named “Champion” from 2:30-3:30pm. Free autographed photos of the famous cowboy were given to the first 1,000 kids in attendance.² Two live performances were also scheduled that day at the Oshkosh Theater featuring a 4pm matinee and an evening performance at 8:30pm. The live shows were billed as “Gene Autry and his Melody Ranch Hands with Champion, the Wonder Horse”. Also featured in the performance was Rufe Davis, Pat Buttram, the Cass County Boys, The Pinafores, Frankie Marvin and Little Champ. All seats were reserved with matinee seating priced at $1.80, $1.20 and 90¢, the evening show a bit more.
