CREDIT: WSSCC / HAKIM HADJEL NOTE TO THE READER This report provides the latest information on the Global Sanitation Fund (GSF), established by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) in 2008 to boost finances into countries with high needs for sanitation. Currently operational in 13 countries in Asia and Africa, GSF supports national programmes developed through a consultative process led by governments, with involvement of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), associations, academic institutions, private sector companies, and international development partners. All programmes supported by GSF address the problem of inadequate sanitation and hygiene by focusing on methods of changing behaviour. These include a combination of participatory approaches, including community-led total sanitation (CLTS), securing the active involvement of local governments and other institutions and supporting the supply chain through promoting entrepreneurship in the marketing of sanitation solutions and services. In this report, the reader will find the main results in headline form for the GSF as of 31 December 2014. Also presented are cumulative numerical results in a dashboard, for the GSF as a whole and for each country that has reached the implementation phase, and descriptions of the various results indicators. The country profiles provide more detail on the national GSF-supported activities. Other sections present the GSF’s key developments in 2014, monitoring and evaluation aspects, and a full listing of active Sub-grantees.

Overview The genus Dyscophus contains three species of large microhylids composing the subfamily Dyscophinae endemic to Madagascar. D. antongilii, D. guineti and D. insularis. Dyscophus antongilii is red-orange in coloration and commonly called the tomato frogs because of its appearance. It is well-known and iconic amphibian species. Described by Alfred Grandidier in the 1877, D. antongilii occurs in a moderate area of northeast and east of Madagascar. Dyscophus antongilii has been listed within CITES Appendix I since 1987 while the other two species currently have no CITES listing but proposed to be inserted into Appendix II for this year by a separate proposal. Some studies on the species led by F. Andreone demonstrate that this species is frequently found outside of protected area and one of the strategies to conservation purpose is the trade. The species is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

The main reason for this extraordinary extension is to enable the Malagasy Red Cross Society and IFRC to complete the replenishment of non-food items (NFIs) taken from the emergency/contingency stocks of the National Society (NS). This replenishment process started only after distributions were made on 21 August 2020, logistics process only allows replenishment after distribution has been completed documented (proof of exit from warehouse, distribution reports, etc.) before the requisition for replenishment should be issued. Astiella is an herbaceous genus endemic to Madagascar, originally described with a single species A. delicatula Jovet. Molecular and morphological evidence place it in the tribe Spermacoceae s. lat. of Rubiaceae. During herbarium studies and fieldwork in Madagascar, 11 new Astiella species were identified and these are described here: A. antongilensis Groeninckx sp. nov., A. antsalovansis Groeninckx sp. nov., A. confusa Groeninckx sp. nov., A. deblockiae Groeninckx sp. nov., A. desseinii Groeninckx sp. nov., A. homolleae Groeninckx sp. nov., A. latifolia Groeninckx sp. nov., A. longifimbria Groeninckx sp. nov., A. perrieri Groeninckx sp. nov., A. pulla Groeninckx sp. nov., and A. tsaratanensis Groeninckx sp. nov. The genus Astiella now holds 12 species in total that are all endemic to Madagascar.
