From The First Era of Psychedelia 1966 Not just ‘another curious’ band of the 1960’s, the Daily Flash were phenomenal musicians and singers from Seattle who impressed audiences immediately, and were fluent in a variety of musical directions. Formed in 1965, the original lineup included Steve Lalor and Don MacAllister (vocals, guitar, bass), Doug Hastings (guitar), Jon Keliehor (drums). They performed alongside other groups such as The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Country Joe, Quicksilver, Van Morrison, Cream, Taj Mahall, Turtles, Steve Miller Band, Grass Roots and others. They were brought in as a backing band for various Los Angeles artists including Dr John, The Cake, Noel Harrison, Bob Lind. Individual members played or recorded with various artists including The Doors, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Paul Butterfield, Buddy Miles, Iron Butterfly, Frank Zappa, The Sons of Adam, Pamela Poland, David Ackles, Rhinoceros and others.
The original group lasted through 1967 with members leaving to join the Buffalo Springfield, supergroup Rhinoceros and others. A year later the band reincarnated as BODINE with Jon Keliehor (drums), Steve Lalor (guitar, vocals), Kerry Magness (bass, vocals), Eric Karl (guitar, vocals) and Dave Brooks (keyboards), recording a spectacular album on MGM. documentation Nick Warburton at: http://www.rhinoceros-group.com/dailyflash.htm
As a chronicle to the group’s history the forthcoming CD of I FLASH DAILY includes all single releases, Hollywood Gold Star Studio recordings, live performance recordings from the Whiskey A’Go Go and Seattle Trips Festival, and early unpublished demo recordings. A 36 page colour booklet provides a detailed history.
