Immediate Source of Acquisition The Psychedelic Promotional Handbills for San Francisco Rock Concerts Collection was purchased by the Bancroft Library in 2014. Organization of the Collection This collection is organized by venue and arranged chronologically. It has been housed and described in 12 series: 1. Avalon Ballroom 2. Bonnie and Ian's 3. Scope and Content Promotional handbill mailers, chiefly for concerts held at the Avalon Ballroom and Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. Many prints are reproductions of larger promotional posters designed by prominent Bay Area psychedelic poster artists of the late 1960s and early 1970s, including Stanley Mouse, Victor Moscoso, Alton Kelley, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, Tea Lautrec, David Singer, Bonnie MacLean, R. Tuten, Robert Fried, and Greg Irons. Other artists represented include Chris Johnson, George Hunter, Neon Park, Ws. Henry, John Thompson, Bob Shnepf, David Smith, Paul Kagan, Stark, Doltie, Peter Bailey, Lee Conklin, Weisser, Sätty, Rehbock/Wiese, Tracy-Yates, Nicholas Kouninos, Patrick Lofthouse, and Jack Hatfield. Most of the artwork was commissioned by promoters Bill Graham (Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland) and Family Dog (Avalon Ballroom). Collection also includes a few larger format fliers, and handbills for other venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. Concert performers are listed in finding aid.
