There’s nothing behind it.” --Andy Warhol Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition "Cast a Cold Eye: The Late Work of Andy Warhol.” The extensive exhibition, which occupies all galleries at 555 West 24th Street as well as a new gallery at 522 West 21st Street, draws together many of Warhol’s most iconic paintings from the following series executed during the 70s and 80s: Mao, Ladies & Gentlemen, Hammer & Sickle, Skulls, Guns, Knives, Crosses, Reversals, Retrospectives, Shadows, Rorschach, Camouflage, Oxidation, The Last Supper, Self Portraits and more. Comprised of works from the last eighteen years of Warhol’s life, “Cast a Cold Eye…” includes masterpieces that have been rarely or never before seen in New York, as well as important loans from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Andy Warhol Museum, and private collections. In his later career, Warhol was often vilified by art critics for being little more than a society portraitist and social impresario. -
Assessment of Spectral Properties of Apollo 12 Landing Site Yann Chemin1, Ian Crawford2, Peter Grindrod2, and Louise Alexander2
Assessment of spectral properties of Apollo 12 landing site Yann Chemin1, Ian Crawford2, Peter Grindrod2, and Louise Alexander2 1Student, Birkbeck Colllege, University of London 2Birkbeck Colllege, University of London Corresponding author: Yann Chemin1 Email address: [email protected] ABSTRACT The geology and mineralogy of the Apollo 12 landing site has been the subject of recent studies that this research attempts to complement from a remote sensing point of view using the Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) sensor data, onboard the Chandrayaan-1 lunar orbiter. It is a higher spatial-spectral resolution sensor than the Clementine UVVis sensor and gives the opportunity to study the lunar surface with a comparatively more detailed spectral resolution. We used ISIS and GRASS GIS to study the M3 data. The M3 signatures are showing a monotonic featureless increment, with very low reflectance, suggesting a mature regolith. The regolith maturity is splitting the landing site in a younger Northwest and older Southeast. The mineral identification using the lunar sample spectra from within the Relab database found some similarity to a basaltic rock/glass mix. The spectrum features of clinopyroxene have been found in the Copernican rays and at the landing site. Lateral mixing increases FeO content away from the central part of the ray. The presence of clinopyroxene in the pigeonite basalt in the stratigraphy of the landing site brings forth some complexity in differentiating the Copernican ray’s clinopyroxene from the local source, as the spectra are twins but for their vertical shift in reflectance, reducing away from the central part of the ray. Spatial variations in mineralogy were not found mostly because of the pixel size compared to the landing site area. -

In this work was specifically investigated the fine grained matrix which is a mixture of fine-grained materials composed largely of amorphous silicate and sub-micrometre crystals forsterite and enstatite. This is thought to be the remnants of the dust and gas of the protoplanetary disk that allows us to better understand chemical and physical properties of this precursor material. -
NO RAMBLING ON: the LISTLESS COWBOYS of HORSE Jon Davies
WARHOL pages_BFI 25/06/2013 10:57 Page 108 If Andy Warhol’s queer cinema of the 1960s allowed for a flourishing of newly articulated sexual and gender possibilities, it also fostered a performative dichotomy: those who command the voice and those who do not. Many of his sound films stage a dynamic of stoicism and loquaciousness that produces a complex and compelling web of power and desire. The artist has summed the binary up succinctly: ‘Talk ers are doing something. Beaut ies are being something’ 1 and, as Viva explained about this tendency in reference to Warhol’s 1968 Lonesome Cowboys : ‘Men seem to have trouble doing these nonscript things. It’s a natural 5_ 10 2 for women and fags – they ramble on. But straight men can’t.’ The brilliant writer and progenitor of the Theatre of the Ridiculous Ronald Tavel’s first two films as scenarist for Warhol are paradigmatic in this regard: Screen Test #1 and Screen Test #2 (both 1965). In Screen Test #1 , the performer, Warhol’s then lover Philip Fagan, is completely closed off to Tavel’s attempts at spurring him to act out and to reveal himself. 3 According to Tavel, he was so up-tight. He just crawled into himself, and the more I asked him, the more up-tight he became and less was recorded on film, and, so, I got more personal about touchy things, which became the principle for me for the next six months. 4 When Tavel turned his self-described ‘sadism’ on a true cinematic superstar, however, in Screen Test #2 , the results were extraordinary. -

Lunar Meteorites: Impact Melt and Regolith Breccias and Large-Scale Heterogeneities of the Upper Lunar Crust
Meteoritics & Planetary Science 40, Nr 7, 989–1014 (2005) Abstract available online at http://meteoritics.org “New” lunar meteorites: Impact melt and regolith breccias and large-scale heterogeneities of the upper lunar crust Paul H. WARREN*, Finn ULFF-MØLLER, and Gregory W. KALLEMEYN Institute of Geophysics, University of California—Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California 90095–1567, USA *Corresponding author. E-mail: [email protected] (Received 06 May 2002; revision accepted 24 April 2005) Abstract–We have analyzed nine highland lunar meteorites (lunaites) using mainly INAA. Several of these rocks are difficult to classify. Dhofar 081 is basically a fragmental breccia, but much of its groundmass features a glassy-fluidized texture that is indicative of localized shock melting. Also, much of the matrix glass is swirly-brown, suggesting a possible regolith derivation. We interpret Dar al Gani (DaG) 400 as an extremely immature regolith breccia consisting mainly of impact-melt breccia clasts; we interpret Dhofar 026 as an unusually complex anorthositic impact-melt breccia with scattered ovoid globules that formed as clasts of mafic, subophitic impact melt. The presence of mafic crystalline globules in a lunar material, even one so clearly impact-heated, suggests that it may have originated as a regolith. Our new data and a synthesis of literature data suggest a contrast in Al2O3- incompatible element systematics between impact melts from the central nearside highlands, where Apollo sampling occurred, and those from the general highland surface of the Moon. Impact melts from the general highland surface tend to have systematically lower incompatible element concentration at any given Al2O3 concentration than those from Apollo 16.
