The objective of the draft directive is to offer a way of avoiding the double taxation of profits transferred "artificially" between associated enterprises established in different member states. It is believed that multinational companies in particular have been using this device of disguised and artificial profit transfers in numerous ways (for example, by demanding excessive patent fees). Under present circumstances, a member state's tax au­ thorities may slap a higher tax on a parent company that has in effect reduced its tax liability by transferring profits to a subsidiary in another state. Yet, tax author­ ities in the latter state may not necessarily lower their assessment accordingly. The draft proposes that in such a case a special arbitration commission, composed of national tax officials and independent persons, would work out a so­ lution in order to eliminate double taxation (Common Market Reports, Par.

[email protected] Trinquier J. 2012. Serpents buveurs d’eau, serpents œnophiles et serpents sanguinaires : les serpents et leurs boissons dans les sources antiques. Anthropozoologica 47.1 : 177-221. Les serpents ont-ils soif ? Que boivent-ils ? À ces deux questions, les sources antiques ap- portent des réponses contrastées, qui tantôt valent pour tous les ophidiens, tantôt seule- ment pour certaines espèces. D’un côté, les serpents passaient pour des animaux froids, et on concluait logiquement qu’ils n’avaient pas besoin de beaucoup boire, une déduction confirmée par l’observation de spécimens captifs ; telle était notamment la position d’Aris- tote. D’un autre côté, les serpents venimeux, en particulier les Vipéridés, étaient volontiers MOTS CLÉS mis en rapport avec le chaud et le sec, en raison tant de leur virulence estivale que des effets physiologie composition assoiffants de leur venin ; ils étaient plus facilement que d’autres décrits comme assoiffés, crase ou amateurs de vin, le vin étant lui aussi considéré comme chaud et sec. Un autre serpent toxicologie assoiffé est le python des confins indiens et éthiopiens, censé attaquer les éléphants pour épistémologie légendes les vider de leur sang à la façon d’une sangsue. Terwijl je in Britse, Amerikaanse, Duitse en Franse boekwinkels struikelde over de vuistdikke levensbeschrijvingen van historische kopstukken als Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Konrad Adenauer en Charles de Gaulle, hadden Nederlandse historici nauwelijks belangstelling voor het biografische genre. Over de meeste grote vaderlanders – van Johan Rudolf Thorbecke tot Multatuli, van Anton Philips tot Aletta Jacobs en van koningin Wilhelmina tot Joseph Luns – bestond geen enkel fatsoenlijk boek. Het verloop van de geschiedenis, zo hoorde je Nederlandse historici vaak beweren, wordt niet bepaald door personen, maar door processen: industrialisatie, (de)kolonisatie, verzuiling, democratisering, emancipatie, enzovoorts. Daarnaast werd de weerzin tegen biografieën gevoed door de protestantse angst – in Nederland wijdverbreid – voor het ‘ophemelen’ van individuen. Van feministische zijde kwam daar nog de afkeer bij tegen geschiedschrijving met ‘grote mannen’ in de hoofdrol. Al met al een dodelijke cocktail. Maar nu: een tsunami van biografieën Inmiddels is alles anders. Het anti-biografische klimaat is de afgelopen vijfentwintig jaar dermate drastisch omgeslagen dat het bijvoorbeeld moeilijk is geworden om een prominente, twintigste-eeuwse Wynia's week: De parallelle levens van Hans en Hans | 1 De parallelle levens van Hans en Hans politicus te noemen wiens leven nog níet is geboekstaafd. De oud-premiers Abraham Kuyper, Dirk Jan de Geer en Joop den Uyl maar ook VVD-boegbeeld Neelie Kroes en D66-prominent Hans Gruijters kregen zelfs twee keer een biografie.

Brezinski 1 La géodésie s’occupe de la détermination mathématique de la forme de la Terre. Les observations géodésiques conduisent à des données numériques : forme et dimensions de la Terre, coordonnées géographiques des points, altitudes, déviations de la verticale, longueurs d’arcs de méridiens et de parallèles, etc. 2 La topographie est la sœur de la géodésie. Elle s’intéresse aux mêmes quantités, mais à une plus petite échelle, et elle rentre dans des détails de plus en plus fins pour établir des cartes à différentes échelles et suivre pas à pas les courbes de niveau. La topométrie constitue la partie mathématique de la topographie. 3 La cartographie proprement dite est l’art d’élaborer, de dessiner les cartes, avec souvent un souci artistique.
