On doit à Gérard Welter, alors encore designer, le dessin de la carrosserie sur la base d’un croquis d’Eric Berthet. Il sera l'un des piliers du style de la PEUGEOT 205 et deviendra directeur du design de la marque de 1998 à 2007. L'habitacle futuriste pour l'époque sera lui dessiné par Paul Bracq. La base du châssis est issue d'une mythique 205 Turbo 16, tout comme son moteur, poussé pour l'occasion à 600 chevaux.
