The whole responsibility lies on us to maintain God's creation in its pristine state without disturbing or intervening in the ecological balance. It is observed that the more we rise in science and technology, the less we care about protecting and maintaining our environment. Indiscriminate, improper and injudicious use of environment will result in mother nature deviating from its original path and cause hazard to human life and property in the form of disasters. Chikkamagaluru district is one of the hazard prone district in Karnataka on account of landslides, drought, floods etc. The whole of the district has faced unprecedented rains in August 2019 and 2020 which has resulted in loss of human lives and destruction of property which has taught a lesson of prudence and sustainable growth to human beings. This District Disaster Management Plan devises a strategy for reducing the hazards and dangers of all kinds of disasters and accidents. It is a dedicated effort by the DDMA, Chikkamagaluru to prepare a comprehensive District Disaster Management Plan under the leadership of the District Administration. It contains the District Profile, an assessment of vulnerability and a list of possible disasters, risk assessment, the institutional and infrastructural mechanism for facing such disasters, the preparedness of the district to overcome the disasters, an effective communication plan containing the contact numbers of Officers and the standard operating procedures for effectively dealing with the disasters which are likely to occur. -

The findings suggest that India’s high agricultural tariffs are a significant impediment to U.S. agricultural exports and that certain Indian nontariff measures (NTMs), including sanitary and phyosanitary measures, substantially limit or effectively prohibit certain U.S. agricultural products. Agriculture is vital to India’s economy, accounting for a substantial share of employment (60 percent) and GDP (17 percent). -

Lessons from Indian Flagship Programmes: The Disconnect for Evaluation Framework 1 Abstract This paper critically examines the management information system (MIS) in thirteen Indian flagship programmes that are under operation for quite sometimes now. Yet the MIS for these programmes has not reached maturity and as many as four programmes do not have any MIS. Clearly, there is a disconnect among the information gathering, monitoring and measuring impacts in the development programmes. Key Words: Management information system, Flagship programmes, Log-frame hierarchy, Result-based monitoring and evaluation, Implementation framework Introduction The MIS plays a critical role in the implementation of programme in terms of monitoring periodic progress. A well designed MIS facilitates flow of information among various levels and enables setting up of the necessary feedback mechanism for planning and management of a programme, project or policy. A comprehensive MIS is a necessary condition for taking informed and timely decisions including those related to operational, strategic and tactical ones. A well designed management information system (MIS) must be simple and easy to comprehend by the different stakeholders of the programme at national, sub-national and community levels; and it should provide reliable information. The information should be specific, accurate and verifiable; and facilitate timely management decision in terms of frequency and flow of information (i.e. a two-way feedback system in a decentralized framework), and management of database. Information generated by the system should be easy to access, process and use thereby facilitating wider dissemination and it should be amenable to computer software. However, literature on information system in the national level planning and decision making process is scarce and most of the literature is contextualized to organizations that facilitates managers to take various decisions (Gupta, 1996). -

While part of the district falls in the Malnad region, another part falls in the plain lands. Therefore the problems faced by these areas may also be different and diverse. Due to unlimited human intervention with nature and exploitation of nature, the frequency and probability of the disasters and accidents have increased drastically in the recent times. The heavy rains of August 2019 has taught the Administration to be alert and prepared for such type of disasters which are unforeseen. On the one hand heavy rains may cause floods, water logging and intense landslides, there may also be situations of drought and famine. In view of this the district has to be ready and gear itself up to meet any situation of emergency that may occur. The District Disaster Management Plan is the key for management of any emergency or disaster as the effects of unexpected disasters can be effectively addressed. This plan has been prepared based on the experiences of the past in the management of various disasters that have occurred in the district. This plan contains the blue print of the precautionary measures that need to be taken for the prevention of such disasters as well as the steps that have to be taken for ensuring that the human suffering and misery is reduced by appropriate and timely actions in rescuing the affected persons, shifting them to safer places and providing them with timely medical care and attention. -

Accepted 12 November, 2010 The olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea ) is known for its spectacular mass nesting behavior. The Rushikulya river mouth has emerged as one of the major mass nesting site in the world. To study the status of hydrological characteristics viz. depth, air and water temperature, salinity, conductivity, pH, total suspended solid, turbidity, dissolve oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, nutrients (NO 2-N, NO 3- N, (NH 3+NH 4)-N, SiO 3 and PO 4-P), petroleum hydrocarbon and dissolved trace metals such as Pb, Cd and Hg are evaluated in mass nesting period of olive ridley turtles at Rushikulya mass nesting site. In order to evaluate the status level of the pollutants and ultimately to protect the precious marine environment, an intensive monitoring has been carried out near Rushikulya, Gopalpur, Chatrapur and Haripur Creek of mass nesting site. The basic scientific objective of the present study is to determine the concentration, migration pattern and dynamics of the pollutants in the estuary and coastal environment. -
