Introduction

Mini Greek School of Greek Language, History and Culture is designed for students who want to make rapid progress in their Greek language and deepen their knowledge about Greece and its culture. It offers an intensive language course and includes grammar, reading, speaking and writing and provides also an insight into Ancient Greek History and civilization.

The program is implemented at the hotel premises and the students have a lot of free time to enjoy the sun, the sea and Greek life. Also, students will have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums.

Our teachers are all native Greek speakers who have graduated in philology, are qualified and have experience of teaching Greek as a foreign language or a second language. They are available after lesson to chat with their students about topics of interest, and to help them discover the beauty and charm of the places they are visiting.

At the end of the day, the students will have enjoyed the famous Greek gastronomy and experienced the Greek music, traditional dances and the unique nightlife.

After the completion of the program, the students will be able to understand and use every day Greek expressions. They will also be able to ask and answer questions.

Detailed Agenda

Arrival in magical Lefkada. Our driver will be waiting for the students at the bridge of the island to take them to the hotel Sunshine Inn in Lygia for the check in. In the evening there will be a meeting with the Education Coordinator and a tour around the Day 1 hotel and the classroom. Students will receive the educational material and the detailed agenda, and they will meet the teachers and gain detailed information about the educational terms. In the museum, the findings of the excavations of the German archaeologist Wilhelm Dafrfeld, which developed the theory that Lefkada is Homer's Ithaca, are displayed in a separate room. 08.00 Daily trip to River Acherontas, Nekromanteion and Ancient Nikopolis. The - triumph of Love over Death: Orpheus, son of the muse Calliope, was 19.00 devastated by the death of his wife Eurudice. With his weeping lyre he achieved to move the king and queen of the dead, Hades and Persephone, and won himself a chance to claim the blossom of his heart back from the Kingdom of Silence. To do so, he had to cross the Acheron River, the watery border between Life and Death. River Acherontas passes through wonderful gorges, Day 6 proud and audacious precipices, endless landscapes of peace and handsomeness, and it forms some lakes here and there; and all that under the surveillance of age-old plane trees. And, of course, the habitat of such a unique place is a member of the Natura 2000 network. At a certain point the river narrows between green-clad steep high cliffs that seem to be forming an enormous gate through which the water of the river rushes fiercely; Here is the legendary “The Gate to the Underworld”. The travelers will visit the oracle of death "Nekromanteion" an ancient Greek temple of necromancy devoted to Hades and Persephone. According to tradition, it was located on the banks of the Acheron river, near the ancient city of Ephyra. This site was believed by devotees to be the door to Hades, the realm of the dead. The travelers will enjoy fascinating experiences.... Drive to the ancient town of Nikopolis (Preveza) to see where the Battle of Actium took place. It was once a virtually deserted nudist beach, nowadays one of the island’s most frequented and cosmopolitan. The sea water is wonderful and there the students will enjoy the sun and sea. Free time for leisure at one of many beach bars or light lunch at one "seafood tavern" with ouzo. 3/. Where do the courses take place?

You will attend the courses in the same hotel you stay.

4/. What are the accommodation options for solo travelers in this tour? You can share a double room with another solo traveler of the same gender or you can pay the single supplement fee if you wish to get your own room.

5/. What about my flights? Your flights to or from Greece are not included in the trip price. You can organize your flights separately at any point. We recommend that you arrive in Greece on the day before your program starts.

6/. Who will organize my visa? You are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. Depending on your nationality, you may need visas to enter certain countries included on your trip. Obtaining visas can take up to six weeks prior to your departure. It is strongly recommended that you consult your travel agency and the local Consulate or Embassy of the country you are visiting to inform you about the visas required.

It is strongly recommended that you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, personal injury, death, medical expenses, repatriation expenses and evacuation expenses before you travel on a V-travel holiday. Tips

 The official language of Greece is Greek. Most Greeks under the age of 50 speak English.  The currency in Greece is the Euro. Credit cards are not accepted everywhere but ATM’s are widely available.  Reward good service by leaving a tip of about 5-10%.  Keep things casual when packing for Greece. Lightweight layers in natural fibres will serve you well.  Be sure to try the national dish of moussaka. Water is usually safe on the mainland but you’ll need to drink bottled water on the islands.  Don’t leave Greece without some worry beads, a backgammon board and some “evil eye” pendants.  Voting is required by law for every citizen who is 18 or older.  Greek people wave with a closed hand as it is considered rude to show your palm of your hand in public.

Welcome meeting We welcome all our participants by providing them with a Welcome KIT on arrival, organizing a Welcome Meeting on the first day and guaranteeing 24/7 personal and professional support, thanks to our specialized staff.

Mini Greek Schools’ curriculum Mini Greek Schools’ curriculum is developed by experts in tourism and certified training organizations and at the end of the courses there is an evaluation process and an Award Graduation Certificate Ceremony for trainees.

Teachers Our teachers are all native Greek speakers who have graduated in philology, are qualified and have experience of teaching Greek as a foreign language or a second language. The teaching method is based on communication. Students actively exercise the four fundamental functions of the language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Particular attention, however, is given to conversation, to develop an increasing capacity to express themselves and communicate in Greek from the beginning of the course.

Educational schedule The educational schedule includes 49 intensive lessons for Modern Greek Language, Greek history and Culture in 60 hours divided into 15 days. The students will attend the courses in the same hotel they stay.

Educational material The educational material include books, photocopies, CD and of course the continuous access to the e-learning platform.

e-learning platform The electronic platform can be used by students during the program but also after its completion. The platform is user- friendly and contains all the courses attended, educational material, video and social media in order to have a continuous communication.

e-library The students will have plenty free time for study and they can use the e-library and free wi-fi facilities.

Final Report At the end of the program, we prepare a Final Report containing information about the project: lessons, methods, evaluation, training tours, results. At the end of the lessons, participants are expected to Educational have acquired the skills to: Use everyday vocabulary as well as some basic phrases to communicate. Introduce themselves and be able to ask and answer questions about level each other's (e.g. where they live, people they know, things they own). Interact in a basic way, provided that the co-speaker uses a clear and slow speech.
