PRESIDENTS REPORT 2013/2014 This season coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Club in providing support for male and female juniors and male senior cricketers to participate in competitive cricket across the shire. Competitions this season ranged from under 8 to under 16s teams in the juniors and A1 to C2 teams in the seniors. The Club has slowly transferred with the demographics of the area from a predominantly junior Club to an even amount of senior to junior teams this season. The introduction of the Father/son teams by past President Rod Aggett is also a telling contributor in helping junior cricketers transition to senior cricket. We have seen many male and female juniors from the Club go on to further their cricketing future to the highest levels of international cricket, like Steven Smith, to many grade and shires players, along with players in the female state league competitions. However, one of this Club’s greatest assets, is its ability to be able to provide the opportunity for all junior players to transition into senior cricket and continue to play the game at whatever level they choose for many years to come. Another great asset of the Club is the quality of people that put themselves forward to Coach/Manage and support the teams on the field each weekend, a big thank you to you all along with the 2013/14 committee, who have made this season possible. Congratulations also to the players, who I hope have had more highs than lows this season and improved their stats and their game.

Highlights of the season

• The 35th Anniversary dinner, with special guest Kerry O’Keefe in what has turned out to be his final official performance, and it was memorable. Special thanks to Liz Hawksworth and the rest of the committee for organising the night. • The performance of our all girls under 12 team, that just fell short of winning the GF, but played against all boy teams all year with some fantastic performances. The first all girls IMCC side and only the second ever all girl side across the SSJCA competition. • Our 14 D boys, who with 9 players for most of the year also make it to the final, and had an outstanding year. The team was also coach by Connor Aggett and Hayden Wallis, who with no connection to the team, were able to bond them together to have a genuine crack at the final. • Our Under 8 team that was one our most competitive under 8s for a few years, which included all first time cricketers and a first time coach and manager 2 • Our A1 team, that led the competition ladder for most of the season only to fall short at the back end of the year • Finals appearances from our B1 and B6(1) teams • The amount of senior teams and players especially the Father /Son teams. I would like to congratulate our junior and senior cricketer of the year, Luke Hawksworth. Luke has had an outstanding season in both the junior and senior competitions as well as the junior representative competition. This is an exceptional achievement for a 14 year old to win both the Club junior and senior cricketer of the year awards, this has never been achieved before in this Club history, and should be highly commended. Congratulations Luke and all the best for your future cricketing years.

Finally, thank you to all the players and parents for their support this season and I trust that it was enjoyable for you and hope to see you all back again next season. Go the Kookas-Thank you Gary Fattore President IMCC

IN2CRICKET REPORT This year’s IN2Cricket program had 35 cricketers going around Coachwood Oval every Friday afternoon during October, November and December. The IN2Cricket program teaches the basics of the game and this year we had a record number of girls participate which is a sign of cricket across all ages and formats of the game. As well as under 6 and 7s participating in the program we also have 4 under 10 boys that also gained a lot out of the program allowing them to focus on the finer techniques of the game and allowed them to improve their weekend games. The IN2Cricket program is a great feeder into the BIG weekend cricket that is the next step for a lot of these participants. Others just enjoy the fun activities whilst getting to understand the basics of cricket. Either way it is a great format for under 6/7s to understand and enjoy the game to see if it is a sport that they wish to participate in long term.

JUNIOR TEAM REPORTS

Under 16C

The Under 16 age group at IMCC came out of registration with only 4 players, so it was only thanks to the tireless efforts led by Allison Watson that a team was cobbled together. The original 4 were supplemented by some late returning 2nd year Under 16s and a bunch of first year players and we ended up with a squad of 13 ready and willing players. Team announcement day saw John Sweet unable to refuse the offer to coach, and Rod Aggett soon after showed why he is a Life Member of this great Club, offering his services as Assistant Coach in his first season without one of his own sons representing the two blues. The 11 round competition began slowly for us. Individually each player could contribute towards the team result, but we just kept under-performing and after 7 rounds had only a draw from a wash out to our credit. Round 7 in the shadows of Christmas was the turning point when we gave DLS a good old fashioned flogging and turned our season around. For some this was their first victory in a Saturday sporting contest in about 18 months so it was pretty special. We came back from the Christmas break with that key element of confidence. All of a sudden the team knew they could win. And win they did taking out the final 3 games of the season in great style. So in a 4 team competition they beat every team the last 4 rounds and ended only one good result away from the Grand Final. The eventual 16C winners from Gymea Bay were breathing easy knowing they wouldn’t have to face the form team of the competition on the One Day in March. The steady improvement of this team was thanks largely to the enthusiastic coaching team of John and Rod who never dropped their collective heads during the first part of the season, but rather kept drilling into the team what was needed to be competitive. The team was always enthusiastic and really enjoyed their cricket. It was a happy team where everyone contributed at different times to the improvement and ultimate success of the team. The Player awards reflect the standout performers, but ultimately the 16Cs were all about the team, not individuals. We hope all the Under 15s are motivated to return and represent IMCC in the 2014/2015 season and wish our departing Under 16s all the best for a career in senior cricket. Finally, a special thanks again to Allison for all her sweet talking and to all the players that joined the squad late and gave us the opportunity to have a terrific season of cricket.

UNDER 14A

The 14A comp this season was said by the SSJCA to be one of the strongest in years with some extremely talented players spread across each of the teams involved and as such, would lend itself to an exciting and entertaining race for the title. It would be fair to say that we started the season with mixed emotions, as we had a core group of experienced previous A graders who were augmented with some talented boys from the lower grades to make up what was on paper, a pretty decent team. Despite some first up nerves from our debutantes, a victory in the first round eased their way into the competition and had the boys feeling that that hey, maybe we did belong in the A’s after all. The next couple of rounds saw us coming up against the heavyweights of the competition with some mixed results both on and off the field. The nesting birds up at the Ridge ensured we wouldn’t be able to make use of the pristine conditions there and we found ourselves playing on some less than ideal venues. Looking at the results, we finished the first half of the season with just the 1 win, a draw and 3 losses. On that basis, you would think the boys were struggling. However this was far from the case. There were enough positive signs that the boys were starting to gel as a very effective cricket team. Garry had them working hard at training and you could feel it was only a matter of time before things would start to click. This was no more evident than in the second half of the season were they went through undefeated and narrowly missed out on what would have been a well-deserved place in the finals by just 0.1 of a quotient point!!! Our batting was a dominant feature of the season scoring 1815 runs for the year, some 300 runs in front of the first placed side who were also the Premiers! The hard work put in at training was also beginning to pay dividends with efforts in the field. Along the way our bowling attack earned some high praise from a former Cricket Australian Captain as being the best in the comp, not too bad coming from someone who knows a thing or two about the game!!! Well done boys on a stellar season, you can be justifiably proud of the results you have achieved, and the individual contribution you have made to the team’s overall success. Also, the manner in which you conducted yourselves throughout the season, both on and off the field, is something you can also be very proud of. A big thank you to all the parents for coming along each week and helping out with field set up etc. and to support the boys. It is very much appreciated! A special thanks to Lisa B who is probably the neatest scorer I’ve ever come across and who made the job of entering the results online that much easier!! Last but by no means the least, thanks and congratulations go to Garry for the results achieved this year, his ongoing dedication to ensure the boys were well prepared for each and every round and for also fostering the boys continued love of this great game ! Tim BRANDT A great all round effort from Tim this year. Was never far from the action with both bat and ball chipping in with some great line and length bowling at crucial times in matches to keep the batsmen under constant pressure? Gained rep honours in the SSJCA’s Presidents cup side, a fitting reward for his efforts! A dedicated and enthusiastic cricketer who wears his heart on his sleeve and always gives his best. Declan CASEY A great year for Declan. A gifted natural athlete who was equally at home with the bat, ball or in the field. Generates exceptional pace and troubled every batsmen in the competition. He was unlucky not to pick up more wickets this the season with most teams just content to see his spell out. Also hit the ball hard out in the middle scoring runs at crucial times to help post competitive scores! Will be bigger and stronger in the 16’s next year so watch this space!! Dylan CASEY This was D’s first year being graded in the A’s and enjoyed a steep learning curve as to what’s required to bowl consistently at this level. Having said that, he bowled some impressive spells generating some exceptional pace and swing! Dylan was also another of our SSJCA rep players being selected for his first appearance in the Presidents Cup side. I know D works hard on his game and another to mark down as a future prospect for bigger and better things. Dylan CHONG-SUN This was Dylan’s first year at the Kookaburras and he enjoyed a great all round performance with both bat and ball. Taking a season high 12 wickets @ 17.75 bowling his off spin, this also included a couple of 4 hauls! An elegant batsman and stroke maker as well, he

10 made a valuable contribution at the top of the order with 157 runs for the year. Another of our SSJCA rep players gaining selection in the Under 14’s Presidents cup side. Luke HAWKSWORTH It would be fair that Luke was the yardstick by which all the batsmen in this competition where measured by with over 900 runs to his name for the year (including an impressive tally of 6 centuries) at an average also of just a tick over 100! Mind you one of those 100’s also came in a 30 over match as well!! Standing at square leg watching him take every attack in the competition apart was an awesome sight and it’s not hard to see that only good things are in Luke’s future. Another of our rep players as well this season playing in the shield side and was also named the SSJCA’s Rep Cricketer of the Year and Batsmen of the Year, for the second season in a row!! Harry KAROOZ-LIPSCOMB Hazza was another of our players making his debut in the top grade this season. A 110% team player who always gave his best at both training and on match day and despite limited opportunities, he impressed with both bat and ball. Turned his hand to off spin bowling and bagged 6 wickets for the season at a healthy average of 10.71. Not too bad Haz! A technically correct batter who will only improve for the experience of this year and also as his strength and confidence grows. Watch out for a big season next year. Daniel MILETICH One of our younger players who also impressed with his work with both the bat and ball this season. Not to mention his great work in the field. A stylish batsman at the top of the order, but a look at his bowling figures will see that this was the area where he particularly shone this year. Just behind our leading wicket taker with a season haul of 8 wickets @ 19.00. Daniel also gained rep honours in the Under 13 Presidents Cup side and also excelled here as well. Harshal RATANAYAKE Started the season in his usual laconic style but found his form and rhythm as the season rolled on. Always gave his best effort with both bat and ball and bowled a couple of great spells to tie down one end. The second half of the year saw him grow in confidence and he returned some pleasing results with the bat. He will only improve the more he starts to trust his natural ability of which he has abundance of! Luke SAUNDERS A great year for Luke with bat and ball. He was an integral part of our formidable bowling attack and generally opened the bowling with great pace and accuracy to have the opposition bats on the back foot from the get go! Also performed well with the bat being the second highest run maker for the side with 156 runs for the year including a high score of 51! Another to be rewarded for his efforts and ability with a place in the SSJCA’s Under 14’s shield side. Jared SPARKE The smallest player in the side and for that matter, in the whole competition. What he lacked in size tho, he more than made up for with determination and heart. He impressed with his never say die attitude and energy at both training and in each and every game he played. Young Sparke has a great batting technique and a balanced effortless bowling action which will ensure he continues to shine over the coming seasons! Jared TOWERS Also made his debut season in the A’s and took a round or 2 to find his feet. As the year progressed, his confidence grew and so did the rewards for his efforts. A couple of memorable second change bowling spells saw JT pick up some vital wickets whilst maintaining a great economy rate and was also on a hat trick at one stage!! His best spell of the year returned the impressive figures of 5 overs 3 maidens 3/3!! Overall a great year JT who will continue to improve with each year ahead. Zac WADE A great year for Zac having his first crack at the top grade. A solid all round performance, with bat and ball but really comes into his own as an outstanding fieldsmen. Ever reliable in the field with a great arm and a safe pair of hands which held onto a couple of spectacular catches during the season. Another who works extremely hard on all facets of his game and will reap the rewards in the not too distant future. A tall fast bowler who also generates some great pace and swing and will only improve with age!

14C This was a promising season for the team, but in the last couple of games, we just couldn’t put things together and get a win to take us through to the final. In the end, the team finished equal third but we had some good opportunities to get to second and vie for a position in the final but it just wasn’t to be.

Overall, the team had 4 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw. In the very last game, a win against St John’s Bosco would have seen us move into second place and have a chance of making the final but a disappointing first innings loss was the best we could achieve.

Highlights of the season were both games against DLS Seagulls where the team scored over 300 runs both times. On these occasions, everyone in the team got runs and contributed well to the final result. Standouts were Baden who scored 133 in the first of these games and Joel who scored 101 not out in the second game. Baden also managed to get a in the 4th round game against Caringbah. Other notable knocks throughout the season were the 55 scored by Thomas, the 30 not out scored by Liam, the 29 not out by Lloyd and the 35 by Corey, all in the second DLS Seagulls game. Joe also got a high score of 30 in the second round game and Noah two good scores of 25 and 23 in the 3rd round game against St Patrick’s.

Brayden had a difficult season – breaking his arm after the first game and he was not able to play again until the last couple of games. He batted well to score 21 in the last game and also bowled with speed and bounce to grab a couple of wickets in rounds 8 and 9.

From a bowling angle, notable performances were by Noah who got three wickets on three occasions and 13 wickets overall, Joel who ended up on 14 wickets with an average of 8.36, Matthew who got a 2 for 9 in the second game, Ethan who got a 4 for 27 in round 7 and Corey who got a 3 for 19 in round 4. Baden always bowled with great speed and took 6 wickets for the season.

From an overall perspective, the boys batted well on occasions but then threw away wickets by hitting the ball in the air when they needed just to stay in and take their time. Too many sundries was also a problem leading to giving away far too many runs in tight situations. However, the boys were always competitive and had a great attitude throughout the whole season for which they are to be congratulated.

Great season Lleyton hope to see you continuing. The 12 B’s had an enjoyable season after a hard first up game against St Pats who ended up unbeaten until the final. We showed good fight all season and were still a chance to make the final right up until the second last round. Our home ground of Coachwood oval was once again a challenge to our bowling team who had to concentrate hard on our skinny pitch.

Oliver Blake : Oli played in his usual fun loving way with a smile on his face. His aggressive batting was his feature which included a huge six in the last game of the season. Oli bowling improved throughout the season and took 3 wickets and also took a couple of good catches with great after catch celebrations shared with all the team.

Ethan Fuller : Ethan missed quite a few games this season due to injury but tried hard in every game that he played. He did a good job at opening the batting, often keeping out the opening bowling attacks. He had a highest score of 15. His bowling gradually improved throughout the season.

Harrison Fylaktidis : Harrison did a bit of everything this season, often opening the batting with a highest score of 12 , kept wickets quite often and send down some handy over’s . He was a good talker in the field, encouraging his team mates at all times.

Mitchell Gardiner : Mitchell had a really good all round season. He opened the bowling and took 10 wickets with his quick inswingers. Had some good knocks with the bat and often scored his runs quickly. He has a highest score of 26no. He also enjoyed keeping wickets.

Joseph Mauch : Jo had a good attitude to the game , he listened to what was required and put that into practice. His bowling was a little off line at the start of the season but he spent a lot of time at training to improve his technique and was rewarded with 4 wickets during the season.

Daniel Milliken : Daniel had a good season with the bat. Has a good technique and scored the most runs for us this season. He had a highest score of 64 no and a total of 176 for the season. He also chipped in with 5 wickets and 4 catches.

Jacob Naden : Jacob had a big season with the ball. He took 13 wickets and was the leading wicket taker for us. He opened the bowling with Mitch. He bowled nice and straight and was rewarded for his consistency.

Jack Solo : Jack had a good all round season. He is a hard hitting left hand bat that had some good innings during the season with a highest score of 26 and also took 8 wickets with his outswingers.

Callum Sweet : Callum grew in confidence with his batting during the season . He had a mix of good defence and good attacking skills. His highest score was 33 and had a match winning with Daniel Towell round 4 of the season.

Daniel Towell: Daniel had a consistent season this year. He scored 143 runs with his hard hitting batting, with a top score of 28. He backed that up with 8 wickets and 6 catches. His aggressive fielding was a pleasure to watch.

Cooper Towers : Cooper has a good season with the bat and ball for his first season up in the under 12’s. He batted well for his runs with a highest score of 22 and he also took 8 15 wickets and 5 catches. Cooper had a safe pair of hands and if a high ball went up, the coach was pretty confident if Cooper was under it.

Declan Watson: Declan showed his all-round skills this season bowling off spin which generally had most batsman in trouble taking 4 wickets. His batting is coming on, with a good knock of 27 no showing the skills he has developed this season. He also took a couple of really good catches during the season.

Thankyou to Allison Watson for managing the team, scoring, etc etc etc …..and achieving the TOM CROUCHER AWARD for excellence in scoring this season !! And to all the other parents who stepped in to help score, put cones out, warm up the boys. I really enjoyed coaching the team and good luck to all for next season.

This season we saw a bunch of young players develop their cricket skill, forge new friendships and most importantly just have a laugh and a good time. Oh yes, a little fitness as well. Unfortunately we didn’t have too many wins during the season but in contrast we were always out there giving it our all. There always seem to be somebody in the opposition team who was able to single 16 handily turn the game in the oppositions favour either with the bat or the ball. It was great to see the improvement and the confidence of the players grow each week. When you get complements from the opposition about the team’s performance after the match it is always nice. Well it’s not long till cricket start for the 2014/15 season so get down to those nets. Evan Collins – Little man with a big heart who opened on occasion to face bowlers twice his stature. Against St Pats he endured some Brett Lee like pace bowling of a full toss, bouncer and an attempted yorker which hit his leg and saw him carried from the field. Although not his favourite part of cricket he showed real improvement with is bowling during the season. Owen Hamilton – Has been playing cricket for a few years with the club and showed this season that with some hard work he is on his way to being a good all-round cricketer. Unfortunately his bowling stats didn’t show his full potential with the bowl but he helped to dismiss the opposition at different times of the season with some sharp catches and a run out. Linten Hardie – He was hesitant at the beginning of the season to change his preferred around the wicket bowling style when continually prompted by the coach. But by the end of the season was seeing the benefits of the hard work especially against our neighbouring Comets. He provided some good opening stints with the bat and didn’t step back when asked to lead from the front. He started the season strong with his highest score against the Magpies. Lauren Jones – She was one of our rookies and worked hard during the season on her cricket skills. She proved to be one of our better defensive batters and was able to stabilise the middle of our . With figures of 3/29 against Como Jannali it showed that she was capable of changing the outcome of a game if she put her head to it. Her skill didn’t stop there with no less that 2 run outs to her credit. Jordan McShane – Was one of our wicket keepers this season but was also happy to head up our batting each match. He also showed that he was pretty handy with the ball as he was the second highest wicket taker for the season. His ability to wicket keep provided him with a good set of hands which allowed him to pull off the catch of the season against St Pats’ high scorer in round 9. His highlight of the season was his half century against Bangor 2 team in round 3. Zac Parkes – He joined our team at round 3 and even though he hadn’t played club cricket before we quickly found that his enthusiasm and backyard cricket skills would help to fill the hole left in the team after a late withdrawal. He must have it a lot of balls over the neighbour’s fence as he show he could put together a good innings with the bat. His highest score was 45 not out. His bowling spoke for itself as he was able to beat the bat on many occasions. James Peach – Had a great season with the bat and with more than half of his innings not out there was no doubt that he would take out the batting average award. James has a good understanding of cricket and provided good guidance for placing the fielders. His tiny statue didn’t stop him from putting in a giant effort when bowling. He started off the season with a bang with his best figures of 3/40 against the Magpies. He also showed his versatility with 3 run out and 3 catches to top it off. Matthew Pinkerton – He has been playing cricket for the club for 4 years. In round 9 against St Pats Matt dislodged the bails to produce a run out that started the demise of the middle order of the opposition. He has worked hard on his bowling at training during the season. This has paid dividends and during the season he has regularly taken wickets each match. This has allowed him to be equal top wicket taker of the team. Joshua Stewart – He spent some time behind the wickets at the end of the season and snapped up a big snick to send St Pats’ number 4 back to the pavilion. Josh is a new comer to the game but he used his size to his advantage. He produced a quick bouncing to worry most opposition batsmen. He could also hit big shots that would breach the boundaries on most shire fields. In round 3 we watched Josh blast an unbeaten 61 around Prince Edward Park. Bailey Turner – Bailey only new one level of power and that was full blast. He is a very strong boy and can throw and bowl a ball at high velocity. He was always very handy fielding out near the boundary as he could easily through back to the keeper. He worked hard at training to harness his powerfully bowling and get accuracy and knock stumps out of the ground. Joshua Vangi – Where ever Josh was the ball would follow him in the field. He had the safest hands on the team and helped dismiss the opposition’s batsmen on many occasions. Josh took a total of 10 catches for the season. He also provided a crucial run out that broke the opening partnership of St Pats in round 4. Josh is also a handy bowler and produced many maiden overs in his quest to take wickets. A big thank you to the parents for their support during the season. From the scoring, putting cones out and providing the fruit each week thank you for your contribution. Thanks to Sonia for doing a great job managing the team and keeping the team informed. Wishing all the boys and Lauren all the best in their future endeavours and hoping to see them in the 2014/15 season. Rod Whatley Coach

What an amazing season for the 12E Girls this year! The girls decided to sign up and play weekend cricket after having some success in the school competitions in 2013. We were made to feel very special when we found out that we were the first girls team ever from Illawong Menai Cricket Club and the first all-girls team in the Sutherland Shire Cricket Association in over 20 years. I really didn’t know what to expect as the girls had never played competitive cricket before, but as the season got underway, the girls gave me plenty of surprises throughout the season. Each and every week the girls competed well against the boys teams and we led the competition for much of the year. The last round of the year saw us play a pseudo semi-final, with us needing a win to progress to the Grand Final and a loss would have seen us finished for the year. In what was a tight affair, it came down to the last over, the opposition needed 4 runs to win and all we needed was a wicket. After a no-ball and two quick singles, scores were tied and we thought our chances of a Grand Final berth were over. Then that very next ball, we got our wicket! A tie was enough for us to progress through to the big dance. I have never been involved in a more thrilling game of junior sport. Unfortunately, that next week we fell short by 10 runs in the Grand Final and weren’t able to take the opportunities that presented themselves to us. Still though, the girls were very proud of their achievement, becoming the first all-girls team to ever make a Grand Final in the Sutherland Shire Cricket Association. I must thank all the parents for their commitment in getting the girls to training and to the games. In particular I would like to thank the team manager Linda Finn for all her tireless work sending text 18 messages, scoring on matchday and entering scores online. You have put in a huge effort and appreciate all that you have done. I would also like to thank our assistant scorer, Zeffy Delhas, for her efforts in scoring when Linda was unable to make the game. A big thankyou to must also go to our Assistant Coach, Anthony French for his commitment and effort in helping train the girls every Thursday afternoon. There were definitely times when I’m sure he wanted to quit as we watched 300 deliveries at training not land on the pitch, but he stuck it out with the girls and helped them improve dramatically. Thanks also for organising the team barbeques after the games. Lastly, a big thankyou must go to the girls! Thankyou for letting me be a part of your team. I’m so proud of you for giving a new sport a go and achieving success in it! Well done! Siobhan Halstead – Siobhan is one to watch for the future. She retired nearly every week when batting and bowled very economically. She was an inspirational captain and led by example. Isabella French – Isabella was one of our most committed players, turning up to every training session. She scored plenty of runs with the bat and picked up a hat-trick during the season! Melody Nelson – Melody is a natural athlete and adjusted to cricket pretty quickly. A complete all rounder who took many catches during the year! Jess Meads – Jess had a fantastic year and improved as each week went on. Her bowling was sensational and she picked up many wickets for few runs during the season! Monica Keech – Monica was a consistent improver throughout the season. She worked hard on her technique and was always willing to listen to try and improve. Picked up a few crucial wickets! Gabrielle Petterson – Gabby continued to surprise me week-in week-out. Her batting throughout the year was fantastic and she was the only one to hit a 6 for the team this year! Ashleigh Finn – Ash had a fantastic year. She scored plenty of runs, retiring once and her bowling improved throughout the year! A great fielder that always gives her best! Jessica Finn – Jess had a brilliant season. She played a crucial innings and retired in the last few rounds to help us make the final. She worked hard in the field and had great bowling figures. Georgia Finn – Georgia scored some fantastic runs throughout the year. After missing much of the second half of the year, she resumed playing in the last few rounds and it looked like she never left! Alannah Lee – Alannah was another player that continued to surprise me each week. She scored plenty of runs, bowled well and made some great saves in the field! Lauren Bissett – Lauren was a solid batter, frustrating other teams as they weren’t able to get her out. She improved by far with her bowling and bowled the over that helped us make the final. Katerina Delhas – Kat was one of our most committed and was definitely our most improved throughout the year. Her bowling was fantastic and she gave away very few extras and runs. Mat Egan Coach

All the boys turned up in their whites, excited and full of expectation for the season ahead. This positive attitude was carried right throughout the cricketing season .The boys played the game with a great sporting spirit, acknowledging excellence on the field with applause, and the shaking of oppositions hands at the end of each game .They forged a great team environment to play in and this was shown with the odd mid- pitch rumble to celebrate a wicket . It was great to see the improvement over the season in all the boys and watching them develop into fine young cricketers. The boy's were competitive throughout the season with the ball and displayed plenty of resilience with the bat, in fact they were so resilient they forced the retiring rule to be revised and as a team they were never dismissed. All their efforts were rewarded with a great win in the final game of the season. Well done boy's you deserved it ! Angus McLeod: Outstanding with the bat and ball, took 2 memorable catches in the field. Not bad for his first year playing cricket. Well done. Peter De Polignol: Great bowler and batter, exceptional all round performance. Gavin Fattore: Good all round performance, keep working on those wrist spinners. I can see a bright future ahead. Michael Ferlazzo: Tall ,strong young lad, good all round performance, will be terrorising batsman with the ball in the years ahead. UNDER 8 WHITE A great season of cricket for the Under 8s. The kids performed really well, showing great enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new skills. None of the members of the team had played before, and a few hadn’t even had much practice with handling a ball before starting the season. From this low base, hard work and keenness to learn saw them end the season in the top 3 teams. The most enjoyable game of the season was our first game against the then leaders of the comp, Bosco White, when the final outcome was decided by only 2 runs. Many thanks to Bruce Kremmer for his dedication to the coaching cause. Bruce put a lot of effort into improving the teams basic skills and applying that to the game throughout the season. I’d also like to thank our parents for supporting the team at practice and during the games. A special thanks should go to Rebecca Jones, for taking on the scoring and recording our results on the Sutherland Junior Cricket website. She was ably assisted from time to time by Leisa St John and Monika Hocroft. Roy Butcher also provided some game photos that managed to show all the kids looking like stars! Jake St John: Jake was the surprise of the team. With no previous experience, he showed a real natural talent with the bat, regularly top scoring each game. He is also a very keen competitor. Trying hard and showing improvement with his bowling and fielding, he was everywhere looking for the ball during games. Jake is sure to have a great future in cricket. Cooper Jones: Cooper was one of our best bowlers. He regularly managed to get a couple of wickets, and I suspect constantly surprised our opponents, as he has such an easy going nature and doesn’t look at all threatening. He also showed improvement in batting through the season, and was keen to improve on his catching. Jessica Jones: Jess was our “most experienced” player, with some time in the Milo series. She and Stephanie arrived later in the season, helping out when we were struggling to get numbers. She

21 showed from the start she loved the opportunity to bat against a decent bowler, and was interested in wicket keeping whenever she got the chance. Stephanie Hocroft: Stephanie started along with Jessica, a few weeks after the start of the season. Stephanie also had no previous experience with cricket, but with her natural sporting ability, was soon able to start contributing to the batting scores. She could also deliver some surprisingly good balls – when the batters least expected it. Stephanie has the potential to develop into a good cricketer and we hope to see her back next season. Conor Kremmer:- From the start, Conor was a demon with the bat! He surprised everyone with a great hook shot to score a boundary in his very first innings, and continued to provide good batting performances to support the team. Later in the season, he showed improvement in his bowling skills too, capturing a couple of timely wickets. Fredy Darwich: Another boy with no previous cricket experience, Fredy started a little slowly, but then developed a good eye, demonstrating good accuracy getting the ball back to the wicket, and showing some real strength when batting, making some solid hits. Another real improver through the season. Ethan Butcher:- Ethan started out as a good average player in this team, and developed dramatically in both his batting and bowling by the end of the season. Ethan is our real cricket convert, watching games on TV or getting to matches when he could, and never without a ball in his hand through the Christmas holidays. Ethan would have to be our most improved player this season, and should go on to bigger and better things in future. James Newland: Until Stephanie joined, James was the tallest player in the team, and also possibly the least experienced, with no previous experience in any ball sports. However, his height gave him a natural advantage, and he was bowling balls the full length of the pitch in his first game. James was hindered by his lack of ball handling skills, but showed good improvement in line and length throughout the season. He was also very proud of his record of never being bowled out until the second last game of the season. James has the potential to develop into a good bowler, or even possibly wicket keeper – a role he showed particular interest in as the season progressed. Ethan Hider: Ethan (“Ethan 2” to his team mates) was a late starter, only arriving after the Christmas holidays, with a couple of games left to the end of the season. He also had very little experience, but within a couple of weeks he’d settled in and was improving at a surprisingly fast rate. He also showed himself to be a keen fielder – running hard to stop balls crossing the boundary and making solid returns to the wicket. He also contributed a great catch in the final game of the season. I wish we’d had him in the team a couple of months earlier! SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

A1 Another great season for a relatively new team. Only our second season together and we not only made the step up to A1’s, but also held our own to finish 3rd behind last season’s grand finalists. We may have been knocked out in the semi by Como-Jannali, but next season looks very promising already with what we learnt from this season. Matthew Angus: Another great season with bat and gloves. Top run scorer (just) and best average (comfortably), he was a key figure in many important partnerships throughout the season. Also very solid behind the stumps, with 14 keeper dismissals, plus he even managed 2 catches in the field. Mathew Christison: Learnt some new lessons about captaincy this season. Importantly, its much easier when the team is winning. Was also forced into keeping one game after 18 seasons managing to avoid it. Discovered just how hard it is, but managed to fluke a catch, so it was worth it in the end. Mitchell Currie: Once again didn’t get many games in due to other commitments, but was a great team player when he was there. Always put the team first, and is still campaigning to bowl (no harm in trying). Matthew Darby: Bloody Pom! Managed to finish the season level, conceding the same number of runs off his bowling as he scored himself with the bat (217). Always solid with the new ball, his 10 wickets don’t speak for the quality he (mainly) produced. Also went to another level with the bat this season, including his first 50 in men’s cricket in round 1. Dylan Dule: Missed a fair chunk of the season, but still managed 252 runs as well as being 3rd in wickets. Hugely important to the make up of the side, his aggressive opening batting set up a few games, particularly his hundred in round 3. Would then contribute with the ball, with both seam up bowling and leg spin. Yohan Sharma: The passion this guy brings to his cricket is infectious. Add to that scoring 300 runs at number 3, plus 18 wickets with his offies, and he is very important to the make up of the side. He is also the first guy in for any training, helping to improve others as well as himself all season. Vaughn Sheffield: Leading wicket taker by a long way with 43 for the season (although the other bowlers will claim credit for quite a few of them, just ask them). Always puts batsmen under pressure and never stops unless the ball is taken from him. Despite his ability with the bat, he had a forgettable season in that department, not managing to beat his own wicket tally with his runs tally. Ryan Silburn: Fair to say not his best season ever, however he did play injured much of the year and always tried to do what was best for the team. Also took some time adapting to new roles, particularly with the bat. Brent Spanhel: Easily his best season with the ball, and had some very useful hits with the bat as well, notably hitting 8 in the last over of round 2 to seal an outright win. With the ball, he developed into a solid opener who would bowl 4-6 overs for no runs and was always unlucky not to get wickets. For the last 2 rounds, he found fitness from somewhere to produce 18 and 13 over spells that defied belief. Tim Swyer: One player whose stats don’t go close to showing his value to the side. Always positive, and while he may not have taken a huge number of wickets, he has the knack of chiming in key wickets when they are needed. Adam Thomson: Our only new full time recruit for the season gelled immediately with the guys, with his jokes always keeping us going even in not so fun times. He is also a very good keeper, also picking up 14 dismissals when deputising for Matt Angus. Despite his modest return, he also showed glimpses of his potential with the bat, and if nothing else added a lefty to our order for opposition bowlers to deal with.

23 Bradley Wong: In his first full season opening, his confidence soared after his highest score of 80 in round 3 in a mammoth opening stand of 179. Was also unlucky to not be bowling due to the depth in the side, as in most sides he would provide more than useful contributions. BATTING STATISTICS H. A1 Name Matches Innings Not Out S. B1

A good season for the b1s this year, great to see us all back as a team after having a few seasons off and also with the addition of a few new players. Had a very solid and enjoyable year with all.

Got off to a great start and continued that form for the year and ending up with the minor premiership, only losing 2 games was a wonderful effort. Unfortunately one of those games being the final. Hopefully we will get the team back and try again to get both minor premiers and premiers title. Would like to thank all of the team for the effort they put in and also the club for their organising and help throughout the year.

B4 It started at an day barbeque. A bunch of old guys not quite ready to let go of their sporting aspirations, who believed they still had a bit to offer in the sporting arena. The idea of Illawong Menai B4 seniors Cricket team was conceived. The team consisted of father and sons, old school mates and the Holmewood brothers (x4). Ability ranged from, retired first class cricketers to backyard hackers, it didn't matter! We started the season off positively winning 2 out of our first 3 games, with Craig Cantor (101) and Luke Hawksworth (175 no) scoring brilliant century's, and James Hawksworth (6 for 79) and Zoron Krklinski bowling well.

26 As the season progressed so did our injury toll .The old boys were beginning to feel the strain and the rigors of competitive Cricket. Craig Cantor led the way with a torn hamstring (4 weeks), Jason Brook was next to follow (torn hamstring 6 weeks),calves, quads, broken fingers the injury toll was mounting. Our bowling stocks were depleted and we were struggling to bowl sides out. However we had no such problems with the bat as Jason Holmewood (4 fifties) and Brett Holmewood (2 Fifties) repeatedly belted bowling attacks out of the park with some of the most authoritative hitting I have ever seen, while Luke Hawksworth ( 2 centuries and 3 fifties), Stuart Hyde and Steve Stacy were regular contributors with the bat, helping to frequently amass very competitive scores. It was great to see the improvement in some of the first timers. Evan Watson and Andrew Holmewood worked their way up the batting order with some solid performances at the crease while Damien Holmewood showed plenty of potential with his wrist spinners, claiming a bag full of wickets. Throughout the season we remained spirited (It's never dull with Gary Hawksworth in your team, with his on field banter) even though we regularly played short, we were unlucky to lose 3 tight games in a very competitive competition. This resulted in us just missing out on playing in the finals. Overall we had a very enjoyable season playing with a great bunch of guys, I got alot of enjoyment out of watching the younger boys develop, Jordan Turner, Chris Krklinski, Steve Milliken and Luke Hawksworth all look destined for greater honours in cricket and I will look forward to monitoring their progress in the years to come. B4 Honour Board 2013/14 Batting : Luke Hawksworth (Exceptional concentration and stroke play , pleasure to watch). Bowling: Luke Hawksworth. Fielding :Stuart Hyde (Still throwing himself around the field like he did when he was 18yrs old). Team player: Zoron Krklinski (always willing to do the hard yards with the ball, open bat when required). Thanks for a memorable year I will look forward to doing it all again next season.

When the 2013/14 season began, it seemed that we were in for a very competitive season. To our demise the cricket gods stepped in and successfully teased us with the prospect of winning. Throughout the season we had the majority of our players either making runs or taking wickets, unfortunately we couldn't have this happen in the same match. So in multiple games we found ourselves falling short of a win by a couple of runs or not taking enough wickets. There was some individual brilliance with the bat from Allan, Mitch D, Harry, Tom, Ryan, Chris, Mitch P, Ben and Brent, scoring runs or anchoring an end when the team needed something to defend. But then others stepped up with the ball; Brett, Nick, Jordan, Jeremy, Brad and Jono, taking wickets just to keep us in the hunt for a win. Tory provided our entertainment (and probably that for our opposition as well) on the field, regardless if he was physically present or not.

Losing a couple of key players in Mitch Parsons (knee) and Jeremy Lim (shoulder) due to injuries was extremely difficult for us, as each week we constantly seemed to be looking for players to fill in. A big thank you to Dan Morgan, Ben Welden and Rick Farrell for their support this season; providing players to help us out. It came to the stage where Dan had organised his team but was sending me a message to make sure I was right with numbers.

Overall, after a bit of a disappointing finish on the ladder, we had a great season. I hope to see all the boys return next season, ready for a triumphant season.

What a fantastic season boys! We won our second minor premiership as a playing group (by a comfortable margin of 11 competition points), by playing quality cricket,

29 consistently throughout the season. In the end we won 11 of 12 games in the regular season – a phenomenal effort. One thing that certainly stood out this season was our ability to fight to find a way to win when games seemed all but lost – we won five of our games by 14 runs or less! And although the final didn’t end the way we would have liked, I am immensely proud of the huge effort put in by the team on the weekend. It was a great final, in which we were the better team for much of the game, but in the end we were probably outdone by the class of one or two of their batsmen. To me, the most pleasing aspect of our season is the way in which we are continuing to go from strength to strength playing as a team unit, rather than relying on one or two individuals to carry the team, particularly with our batting. This was highlighted in the last two rounds in which, for the first time since coming together as a team 4 seasons ago, we batted out our 60 overs – twice! The first effort in round 13 resulted in an IMCC club record team total of 9/376! In addition, as a team we scored 225 runs or more on six occasions this season! Our bowling was also consistent, enabling us to defend totals at the death, and the depth of which was a significant contributing factor to us being undefeated in the one-day games. These kinds of performances (and with a couple of key batsmen coming back into the side next season) should certainly see us continue to be a very competitive team next season, regardless of the grade in which we are placed. We’ve had the luxury of having a large playing group this season, with every player contributing to the overall team performance: Chris Bray – Bray was at his destructive best this season, playing some crucial innings at times when the opposition was right on top, ripping the momentum back in our favour in brutal fashion. Scoring 298 runs (at 29.80) with a strike rate of about 150 (a conservative estimate), plus his two wickets and a catch have made it another very solid season for Bray. Kieran Burgess – Kiz has had a great season, scoring 109 runs (at 18.17), often coming in lower down the order with not much time left to bat. As our very handy second keeper, he’s taken 12 catches (including some screamers!) and a run out as well. And he’s a top bloke – always good for a laugh, he’s always got a smile on his face – it’s great having him around the team. Blake Cugley – Blake played just the three games with us this season, with outside commitments making it difficult for him to play regularly. (He also helped out our B5 team on a few occasions as well – thanks heaps mate.) But even in those few short games, he still managed to provide us with a funny moment we’re still talking about – shadow batting out of his crease, resulting in him being ! As always, he’s taken the ribbing in good humour and we enjoy having him in the team. Michael Feggans – If there were a team award for best all-round player, Feggs would win it hands down. Scoring 417 runs (at 34.75) batting at number 3, including two very classy tons, he deservedly takes out both batting awards this season. In addition, he’s taken 22 wickets (at 17.05) opening with his incredible swing bowling, making his contribution invaluable, week in and week out. Ever the team player, he’s always ready and prepared to do whatever is needed, no questions asked. He’s a great asset to the team! Blake Forsythe – Like Blake C, work commitments have made it difficult for Blake F to play as much as he’d like this season. Having said that he’s still chipped in with 3 wickets from his offies, plus 4 catches, and he’s also bought us a few wickets by keeping the fielding tight at mid-on (unfortunately, the scorecard never tells this side of the story). It’s possible that we might lose Blake to work more permanently next season, but we’ll enjoy having you there when you can make it. All the best, mate. Greg Granger – GG is a newcomer to our team this season and he has had a significant impact. Batting in the top order, his aggressive batting style has netted him 289 runs (at 24.08), including 62* in an unbeaten 138-run stand with Feggs, plus scores of 49, 49, and 44. He’s taken a couple of key wickets, but his impact in the field has been his team- high 9 catches, most of them very sharp ones at silly mid-off (and some impressive bruises to show for them!). It’s been awesome having you in the team GG – looking forward to next season! Warwick Greville – The experiment of pushing Warwick to the top of the order for the last few rounds paid great dividends (I wish we’d done it earlier in the season!), building

30 the platform for some of our best team totals this season. He took his 3 wickets in a single spell of leg-spin bowling, plus taking a run-out. Often the first to arrive, the last to leave, and regularly putting out the cones, Warwick is still one of our most enthusiastic players, his love for the game is infectious, and his commitment is a wonderful example for the rest of us to follow. He is most deserving of our Team Player of the Year Award for 2013/14. Thanks mate! Darren Howard – An invaluable all-rounder, Daz’s medium-pacers add significant depth to our bowling attack, picking up a handy 9 wickets (at 15.33) this season. Shifting Daz to the lower order has also worked well, especially in the final, getting us up to a total that seemed out of reach earlier in the innings. Always good for some useful advice in the field, plus his 5 catches (from 5 chances), Daz’s versatility is a great asset to the team. Brendan Lang – Although the stats say that it’s been a quieter season for Franky, he has been the ultimate team player – on a few occasions this season he has volunteered to be 12th man and has still come down to perform his acrobatic fielding for us. He’s chipped in with some lower-order runs, taken a wicket and 2 catches, and always seems like he’s having fun! The team just wouldn’t be the same without you, Franky! Justin Mealing – Another solid season for Juz with both bat and gloves. He scored 192 runs (at 19.20), including some absolutely sublime shots square of the wicket. And his wicket-keeping has continued to improve significantly this season, taking 6 catches and a smart stumping off Warwick’s leggies (for what it’s worth, the stumping was also a catch – nice work Juz!). And as with all good keepers, Juz is one of the most passionate guys in our side, always chirping, firing up his teammates, and having a laugh – always reminding us to make sure we’re having fun! Dan Morgan – A thoroughly enjoyable season, I hit a little bit of form with the bat through the middle rounds, ending up with 157 runs (at 19.63), but still finding that maiden half-century elusive, managing a personal best of 43* in round 9. I’m also still enjoying my bowling, taking 27 wickets (at 14.70) this season. I’m really enjoying leading this cricket team, so hopefully they’ll let me keep doing it for a little while yet… Joey Morgan – Joey continues to impress as an opening bowler for us, consistently swinging the new ball away from the right-handers. This season he picked up 14 wickets (at 27.71), but was deserving of many more scalps. His opening combination with Feggs hit its peak in round 9 when they destroyed the opposition’s top order, reducing them to 8/48. In that spell, Joey bagged his personal best figures of 4/28. Nice work bro – there are many more wickets coming your way! Alex Seymour – An excellent purchase, poached from another Shire club, Seymour has definitely justified his price tag! He has contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 184 runs (at 18.40), picking up 8 wickets (at 13.13) and taking 4 catches as well – another player that can claim all-rounder status. Always good for a laugh (and a beer), Seymour has slotted right into our team and the boys love having him around. Thanks for making the switch mate! Nic Sheridan – Yet another talented all-rounder in our brimming stocks, Nic has had a wonderful season with both bat and ball. Compiling 231 runs (at 28.88), including his maiden ton (101*), was a super effort. Even more impressive was his bowling, taking 30 wickets (at 11.63) at the staggering strike rate of 19.6 balls per wicket – as such, Nic has absolutely earned both bowling awards for this season. Well done mate! And although one interesting piece of fielding early in the season earned him an unenviable nickname (and saw him take over from Blake C the role of verbal punching bag for his teammates!), Nic still took 4 catches this season…and a catch assist…! Jasdeep Singh – Jasdeep is another newcomer to the team (and our international import!), turning up at our first game of the season and asking if he could join the team – we’re stoked we said yes! He’s played almost every game and scored 107 wristy, sub- continental runs (at 10.70), taken 7 wickets (at 17.00) with his medium-pacers, and snared 3 catches as well. He is clearly very passionate about his cricket and is a genuinely nice guy to have around the team. We’re looking forward to having you back again next season, JD. Ben Vanmidde – Ben is another player for whom outside commitments have curbed the amount of cricket he’s been able to play this season. But when he has played, he’s made the most of the opportunities – in three digs he amassed 177 runs at the crazy average of 88.50, including a knock of 89 batting at number 9 in our 9/376. It’s scary to think what he 31 might have done with a whole season…! With 2 catches and a run out as well, we’re certainly looking forward to having him back (hopefully!) a bit more regularly next season.

Thanks again boys for a wonderful season! It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to lead our team, chocked full with talent and possessing a great team spirit. You should all be very proud of what we’ve achieved this season by playing the hard, but fair, brand of cricket for which we’ve become known, always playing within the spirit of the game. But more than cricketing ability, thank you for being such a great group of blokes I am stoked to be able to call my mates. As always, I’m looking forward with anticipation to next season – and in an ominous warning to our opposition, I think the best is yet to come…! Dan Morgan

Our team's second season in B6's proved to be much more successful than the first. Not only did we have just the one person pump a 170+ score against us this year (as opposed to two last year) but we even managed to finish on the correct side of the finals cut-off. While our finals campaign was thoroughly unsuccessful, it was great to see a team which struggled through the previous season in the same grade come back andrecord some excellent results and prove that we deserved to be there. Many a highlight with the bat was had this season. The most notable of these was achieved by Daniel Foster, who glided like a showerscreen past his first ever 100+ score. With the first wicket falling inside 10 over's, Daniel strode to the crease like an over-aroused giraffe and piled on a 120 run partnership with Jon Maratheftis, who batted with the grace and dignity of Thomas Blakely on a Fijian island to post his highest score of the season (74). Daniel continued after Jon's somewhat inevitable departure with Peter Lambropolous to belt the ball to all parts of the ground, culminating in a 40th over flurry which saw Daniel finally achieve his childhood dream of scoring a B6 century on the hallowed turf of Woolaware Oval. Well done, champ! Other notable performances with the willow include Thomas Blakely's pre-injury batting form, which saw many a fifty scored and more pullin' than a Geordie at a pool party. Congratulations are also in order for Ben Weldon, who passed 4000 runs for Illawong with his second cracking fifty of the year, as well as Jon Maratheftis and Tim Mattison, who passed 2000 Illawong runs, and Harry Bloyce, Daniel Foster and Thomas Blakely who passed 1000 Illawong runs. James Kerr, BSc, was the surprise packet with the bat. Not only did he score 7.67% of his total career runs in one innings to pass 500 career runs, his not out in that innings and subsequent match winning not out innings against Bangor saw his season batting average skyrocket to 54 for a brief period of time. Naturally, this average could not be maintained.

33 Commiserations to Harry Bloyce and Ben Towell who were both denied 50's by some incredibly inconsiderate batting by kids with ridiculous haircuts. With the ball we were potent as ever, with an array of skilled quicks to pick from most matches. While this meant that Daniel Besz, Daniel Foster, Josh Hallinan and Jon Maratheftis were denied the amount of quality over's they all thoroughly deserve, it did see us take some wickets for a change. Five wicket hauls were obtained during the season by Ben Weldon, Jimmy Stephanou and Tim Mattison, the latter claiming the most sought after Bangorian scalp for his 200th career wicket late in the season. Harry Bloyce showed his impeccable fitness during the first three balls of all of his spells, and bowled better than his lack of breath would suggest for the restof his over's, finishing the season with 100 career wickets. Our other frontline bowlers in Thomas Blakely, Ben Towell and Peter Lambropolous bowled well all season without luck. Our attack benefitted this year with the inclusion of Khayam Jeffrey and the emergence of Jacob Miller as a genuine bowling option, with the pair often taking wickets in tight situations. Grant Hallinan was unable to add to his wicket tally this season. In the field the example was set by the Hallinan family. Joshshowed why leg day is so important, springing like a graceful gazelle to his left to take the most spectacular mid-air one-handed horizontal catch at mid-on one could imagine. Not to be outdone by his protein-fuelled son, Grant's diving three fingered effort in first slip firmly cemented his place as the superior Hallinan, as well as staking his claim to join the ranks of Lou Maratheftis in a joint roll as 'official team god'. Congratulations are again in order for Ben Weldon, who was able to take out the club catches award, and James Kerr, BSc, who took his third keeper of the year title in five years (no, the latter achievement is not a typo). One especially pleasing aspect of our team this year was our ability to delegate official team roles. Role delegation was conducted by James Kerr, BSc, who unselfishly took on the demanding roles of 'officialscorer' and 'official loudmouth', and roles such as 'UV safety officer', 'esky manager', 'ethnic affairs officer' and 'captain negative' (just toname a few) were assigned to their most appropriate individuals. Apologies should go out to Jimmy Stephanou, who, as UV Safety Officer, spent more money than we should have let him on buying the team bottles of sunscreen. This echelon system only boosted the excellent social environment in our team, and many a funny moment was had during the season. Not only did we find out what Thomas "Gaz" Blakely likes to do to 'fart boxes' this season, his unusual appreciation for derelict characters from Newcastle, , gave us all many mint ideas of how to interact socially with young females. Standard procedure, Gaz. Other noteworthy items from the season include the excellent array of Dale Steyn impersonations displayed by Tim Mattison upon taking a wicket, as well as the hairstyle competition between himself and James Kerr,BSc, which led to the discovery that Tim has a natural swing when he runs due to the line in the Faf (the adopted name of this hairstyle). This will become a deadly weapon when he works out how to make himself reverse swing with an old Faf. While on the topic of hair, Daniel Besz should be complimented for the excellent chin strap he grew mid season. Jacob Miller is to be commended for his ball shining ability, which seemed to give more sheen to the ball than it started with, while Jon Maratheftis should bede- commended for inventing the 'deliberate French cut' and using it as a legitimate shot. Thank you to all players who made this such a fun and (somewhat) successful season, with special thanks to our part timers Josh Hallinan, Grant Hallinan, Lou Maratheftis and Andrew Silm for filling in when full timers were otherwise occupied. Cheers to Ben Weldon for captaining, managing and organising the team throughout 34 the season. While we may not have walked away with baggy blue's this season, we can take comfort in the fact that, for once, it wasn't because we were the most rubbish team! Ben BATTING STATISTICS H. It was to be the blending of youth and experience, but which would prove more valuable on the cricket field ? Well, the final washup shows them about even in their contributions, so I guess we'll have to go around again next year to see who really carries this team. Apart from a really enjoyable season off the pitch, we also had a lot of fun and memorable moments in the middle, just missing out on a finals spot in the last game of the season. Here's the form guide for the next season..... 35

Keefe Cheung – always the entertainer on the sideline, Keefe had some great moments with bat, ball, hands, and mouth out in the middle. Great to have someone who loves cricket like Keefe. Lachlan Farrell – like an exotic bird rarely sighted, Lachlan always had an impact when he landed at a game. Still managed to be our best keeper with 5 wickets - until pipped by 3 byes by his Dad. Rick Farrell – apart from his wicketkeeping , Rick's captaincy, scoring, and 20/20 rule- making made him the team's all-rounder. Hit a mighty boundary to give himself an average in the final innings of the season. Jamie Feggans – a highlight was his innings as opener against the best attack in the comp - Davie Warner style ! Bamboozled batsmen with his unique bowling action and took some great catches. Rob Feggans – contender for flukiest catch of the year who found muscles to strain that he didn't even know he had. Had one innings that might bring him back next year. Clayton Gadd – our onfield captain had a good season with the bat and was on his way to quick tons a few times without quite making it. A dangerous bowler in every sense of the word. Kept wickets as well. Mark Gould – our super sub helped us out in a couple of games and showed some batting form in the second. A great team player who always fielded wholeheartedly. Andrew Grose – some runs, some wickets, some catches, adds up to a pretty good season. Made a few new friends during the season who 'appreciated' his witty repartee from the slips cordon. Always in the game. John Ishak – celebrated a memorable birthday with a run for each year. Bowled in a way that defied his years and fielded like a leopard in the covers. Always looked like he was enjoying every minute . Michael Ishak – Some great innings at crucial times for the team with a top score of 80. Always a threat with the ball and an absolute greyhound in the field .Do not attempt a second on his arm ! Will Liston – a terrific team player who just loves being out there. Some great tailender knocks to make us that bit more respectable. Enjoyed keeping occasionally and always reliable in the field. Tom Lundie – a competitor who can turn a game. Bowled some long spells to keep our attack on the boil. Some important innings this year when he knew we needed someone to 'hang around’. Blake McAvoy -not many players win a game for the team with runouts, but that's exactly what Blake did with 2 amazing throws for direct hits from the outfield. Played some nice shots during the season as well. Michael McAvoy – 197; most players would be happy with that in the season but in one knock ? A great comeback to seniors cricket with bat ,ball and gloves. Helped the younger players enormously Andrew Nielsen – Some excellent big hitting and some fiery bowling marked a good season. Very reliable in the field with some classy catches. Peter Nielsen – A batting average over 50 shows how hard Peter is to 'shift' from the crease; while some of the catches he took at slip and in the outfield this year left all stunned. Great comeback. James Nielsen – 21 wickets at not many showed how improved a bowler James was this season. Finished the season well with the bat and took some great catches. Adrian Scott – when on song with his spin was dynamic for us. Always reliable in the field and played some nice shots with the bat. Another who always enjoys his cricket and always entertaining in the field.

C2 Looking back on our season, it was a very up and down one to tell you the truth. From having no boys, to the ones there not sure what was going on, it was enjoyable no matter what.

37 I think we needed this season, so that the new boys could learn, and the experienced ones could learn another side of the game, and that's leadership and patience, which some couldn't show at times. But above all, we all had a good time, a good laugh, and I can't wait for what the future holds.
