Environmental Studies The Tension Between Developmental Land Uses and the Conservation Area Designation: A Case Study of the Creoles in Cataniapo River Basin, Venezuela (100 pp.) Director of Thesis: Nancy Bain Shifting cultivation is a contributing activity of deforestation in the Venezuelan tropical forest. It involves slash-and burn techniques as a cheap mean for clearing forestland for agriculture that is not compatible for conservation area designation. This study focuses on a case-study of small farmers settled on a protected area in Venezuela and addresses the question of what are the social aspects of deforestation. The data used to explore these issues consist of a survey of 83 households in 2005. Overall, results indicate that origin, product markets, and off-farm labor opportunities influence deforestation decisions. Households with greater levels of education and off-farm labor income or wealth are relatively new to the area, and are more likely to use the land for residential or recreational purposes. -

La Batalla De San Fernando De Apure La Constitución
APURE HISTORIA LA BATALLA DE SAN FERNANDO DE APURE La batalla de San Fernando de Apure fue una Batalla que se libró dentro de la ciudad homónima. Desde la toma de Caracas en abril de 1870, los azules continuaban resistiendo en algunas zonas de Venezuela. Dos años más tarde, para 1872 los azules, habían recuperado fuerzas y habían capturado la ciudad de Bolívar y controlaban el río Orinoco desde Apure hasta su delta. Lo que los ayudaba a coordinar todos sus ejércitos. Esto fue el desencadenante para que el entonces presidente de la republica Antonio Guzmán Blanco, decretará el bloqueo de las costas del oriente del país y de las bocas del Orinoco y organizara una gran expedición militar para expulsarlo El 31 comienza el sitio a San Fernando, los combates en la ciudad se libran del 1 al 5 de enero cuando Guzmán cruza el Caño Amarillo y toma la ciudad. Las fuerzas de Olivo que logran escapar son batidas por la caballería de Joaquín Crespo en el paso real del Arauca. Antonio Guzmán Blanco Joaquín Crespo en la Batalla de Los Colorados. LA CONSTITUCIÓN APURENSE Desde octubre de 2002 posee una constitución propia de acuerdo a lo establecido en la constitución de Venezuela. Si bien ya había sido aprobada en agosto del año 2000, la reforma de la constitución venezolana establecía la obligación y el derecho de que cada uno de los estados de Venezuela organice sus propias instituciones. Es por eso que el 15 de octubre de 2002 el Concejo Legislativo del Estado de Apure finalmente aprobó por mayoría de sus integrantes el texto de la actual constitución apurense. -

IOV, Cumaná, Sucre 6101 Venezuela ABSTRACT Lebranche (Mugil liza) is the most important fish species for the artisanal fishery of Pedernales, north of the Orinoco delta, Delta Amacuro state, Venezuela; where annual catches reach approximately 82 tons. The commercial importance of this recourse, justified to examine the population biological and fishery indicators, in order to ensuring their adequate use and conservation. In this regard, the population structure and reproductive indices of the lebranche, were investigated during 2007. A total of 409 samples of this specie were caught with gillnets and transferred to the INIA research facilities in Tucupita; at the laboratory the fish were identified, sexed, and the lengths and masses measured. The sex ratio favored significantly the females (X2 = 10.96). It was observed the predominance of individuals in the class of 60 to 65 cm TL, in a unimodal distribution; females were larger than males. The relationship between total length (TL) and total mass (TM) showed a good fit (R2 = 0.91), grouping them into the general equation Mt = 0.0146 Lt 2.8727. The Kn demonstrated that the habitat was favorable for this species. In females, population maturity of the 50% was 59.68 cm TL, indicating that approximately 72% of the catches of this species was below the size at maturity. -
