Some More Achievements

 On July 17, 2015 Hon'ble Chief Minister of W.B. Ms inaugurated 'JALA SATHI' 20 MGD out of the 50 MGD Capacity Water Treatment Plant at Water Works. The enhanced capacity will help KMC to supply treated drinking water to existing command zone of Garden Reach Water Works, Behala, South Kolkata & Garden Reach. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 210.58 crores, which was provided by KMC along with Govt. grant.  On November 6, 2015 Hon'ble MMIC (SWM) Mr Debabrata Majumdar introduced two modern scientific eco-friendly

compactor stations for disposal of solid waste adjacent to a vat near Main Road, Ward No. 32 and adjacent to another vat near Gurudas Banerjee Halt, Ward no. 30. Dignitaries present in the inaugural functions were Hon'ble MIC (Consumer Affairs) Govt. of W.B. Mr Sadhan Pandey, Chairman of Br. III, Mr Anindya Kishore Rauth, Councillor of Ward No. 32, Mr Santi Ranjan Kundu, Councillor of Ward N0. 30 Mrs Papiya Ghosh (Biswas) and other Honorable guests.  To make Kolkata a Vat Free city, another 49 Compactor Stations have been set up at different locations of Kolkata.

 On March 10, 2015 Hon'ble Mayor Mr Sovan Chatterjee inaugurated two Pollution Free Wooden Pyre at Shahnagar Burning Ghat.  On March 2, 2015 Hon'ble Chief Minister of W.B. Different cultural programmes and exhibitions organized by KMC

 67th Republic Day Celebration: Kolkata Municipal Corporation celebrated 67th Republic Day with great enthusiasm this year. Hon'ble Mayor Shri Sovan Chatterjee hoisted the Tiranga.

The Civic Volunteers and Band took part in the March Past. KMC officials, teachers and students of KMCP schools and the local residents participated in the Republic Day ceremony and offered floral tributes to the 'Sahid Bedi'.  120th Birth Anniversary of Netaji : 120th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was

celebrated by KMC on January 23, 2016. Hon'ble Mayor Shri Sovan Chatterjee and KMC officials paid homage to the great leader by offering floral tribute to the portrait of Netaji.

The original chair and table used by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during his tenure as the Municipal Corporation from August 1930 to April 1931 had been placed right at the main entrance of KMC Central Building (Mayor's gate) for public view.

 Central Annual Sports Meet 2015 of the learners of Kolkata Municipal Corporation Primary (KMCP) Schools and SSKs under KMC was held on December 16, 2015 at Deshbandhu Park, Oval Ground, Kolkata.

 KMC observed 146th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2015 at Councilors’ Club Room. Hon'ble Chairperson Smt Mala Roy and KMC officials paid homage to the great leader by offering floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

 Teachers’ Day Celebration: Teachers' Day was celebrated by the Education Department, KMC at Behala Sarat Sadan on September 5, 2015. The event began by lighting of lamp by Shri Partha Chatterjee Hon'ble Minister- in- Charge, Department of School Education and Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal along with Shri Sovan Chatterjee, Hon'ble Mayor, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Smt. Mala Roy, Hon'ble Chairperson, KMC and Shri. Avijit Mukherjee, Hon'ble MMIC (Education), KMC. Four schools were felicitated as the best schools by the Hon'ble Mayor. Three numbers of best teachers were also honored on the said occasion for their outstanding performances. Also, 22 numbers of retired teachers were felicitated to conclude the ceremony.  KMC observed 116th Birth Anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam on May 26, 2015 at Councilor’s club Room. Hon'ble Chairperson Smt. Mala Roy and KMC officials paid homage to the great poet by offering floral tribute to the portrait of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

 Reverential Homage was paid to Kobiguru Rabindranath Thakur, on the occasion of his 154th birth anniversary at Thakurbari and Town Hall Kolkata on May 9, 2015

 Inauguration of Amol Home Digitized Archive was held at the 3rd floor of the Hogg Building, KMC in February 2015

 Celebration of World Environment Day: KMC celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5, 2015 by organizing a rally with numerous colorful tableau from KMC Head Quarter to College Square. Numerous trees & plants were planted in the park. People from all sections of the society like school children, guardians, social activists, MMICs, Councilors and locals took part in the rally.

The programme was inaugurated in front of KMC Head Quarter by Hon'ble Mayor Shri Sovan Chatterjee in the gracious presence of Hon'ble Chairman KMC Smt Mala Roy and Councilors of different Boroughs, officials of KMC and others. The entire programme was organized by MMIC (Environment and Bustee) Shri Swapan Samaddar.

KMC had initiated week long (June 5 to June 11) programmes with the intent of infusing awareness among the mass about the environment and its preservation. The Civic body organized a function among the boroughs where competitions like debates, essay writing, sit and draw, etc. were organized. Special emphasis was laid on awareness about keeping the Hospital area clean and green. The best performing borough was awarded by KMC. A short documentary film regarding 'Discard Plastic' was also shown in different places of Kolkata. KMC has also taken the initiative to spread awareness among the young generation regarding environment protection by organizing documentary film shows in schools across the city.
