La palabra Teoloyucan es una alteración del Tehuillocan que se deriva del náhuatl, de las voces: Tehuilotl, “cristal o cristal de roca”, yotl, “plenitud” o “lleno” y can, “lugar”.

    Paradigma económico Año 5, No. 2 julio-diciembre 2013 Págs:117-144 Nezahualcóyotl, de ciudad dormitorio a polo de desarrollo de la región Oriente del Valle de México1 JAIME LINARES ZARCO* Resumen El origen de Nezahualcóyotl fue resultado de la crisis estructural del campo mexicano, de las migraciones campo-ciudad, del impul- so del modelo industrializador por sustitución de importaciones, además del creciente déficit de empleos bien remunerados de los que, desde mediados del siglo XX, ya carecía el país. A 50 años de su fundación, Nezahualcóyotl ha dejado de ser ciudad dormitorio para convertirse en un municipio consolidado en lo económico y en lo urbano, hasta constituirse en un polo de desarrollo de la zona oriente del Valle de México, cuya influencia socioeconómica se extiende hacia los municipios y delegaciones limítrofes a su terri- torio; situación que se ha confirmado con la puesta en marcha del parque comercial Ciudad Jardín Bicentenario, construido sobre un antiguo basurero, desarrollado con recursos del grupo Carso y el apoyo de los gobiernos estatal y municipal. SHAMEL Principal Physiologist, Division of Fruit and Vegetable Crops and Diseases United States Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Plant Industry The Fuerte is the most important commercial avocado variety grown in California, since more than seventy-five per cent of the acreage and production is of that variety. This relatively high proportion is increasing because the Fuerte trees in southern California have survived low winter temperatures more successfully than most other commercial varieties. The Fuerte variety originated as a bud propagation of the parent Fuerte tree (fig. 1) that is located in the Le Blanc garden at Atlixco, state of Puebla, Mexico. The next most important commercial variety, Puebla, has been propagated in southern California from buds of a tree in the Vicente Pineda garden (fig. 2) that is located near the Le Blanc garden. The buds from the parent trees of both the Fuerte and Puebla were obtained at the same time, 1911, by Carl B. Schmidt of Mexico City, and sent to the West India Gardens at Altadena, California. The recent visit of about fifty members of the California Avocado Association and friends to Atlixco on April 17, 1938, was for the purpose of unveiling a memorial tablet at the site of the Fuerte tree and presenting medals to Alejandro Le Blanc, son of the man who planted the parent Fuerte tree, and to Carl B. Schmidt, who sent the buds to California. Appropriate congratulatory speeches were made by the Governor of the state of Puebla, the Secretary of the Mexican Department of Agriculture representatives of the U.

    GODDESS FIGURE (CHALCHIUHTLICUE) This sculpture was carved from volcanic stone about 1,500 years ago in a city named Teotihuacan, located in central Mexico. Like the monumental architecture of Teotihuacan, this three-foot-tall figure is formed of geometric shapes arranged symmetrically. Después del colapso de la ciudad se va a desarrollar un nuevo tipo de sociedad en un contexto sociopolítico comple- tamente diferente. Este artículo propone una nueva imagen de la ciudad en la que teotihuacanos y coyotlatel- cos conviven en los restos de una ciudad desacralizada. Palabras clave: Teotihuacan, Epiclásico, coyotlatelco. Surviving collapse: Teotihuacans and Coyotlatelcos in Teotihuacan ABSTRACT The Epiclassic (650-900 A.D.) is one of the most complex periods in Teotihuacan archaeology. After the collapse of the city a new society develops in an absolutely different socio-political context. This paper sug- gests a new picture of the city, with Teotihuacans and Coyotlatelcos living together in the remains of a des- acralized city. Key words: Teotihuacan, Epiclassic, Coyotlatelco. Las diversas investigaciones realizadas en el último decenio nos permiten analizar algunas de las ideas alrededor de los conceptos tradicionalmente relaciona- dos con el fenómeno del colapso teotihuacano y la conformación de una nueva sociedad.
