This week’s readings: Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Isiah reminds us that God’s words goes forth from his mouth; and does not return to him void, but shall achieve the end for which He sent it. The Psalm reminds us that the “seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.” God invites us to participate with him in the process of making his word fruitful. We do this by how we respond to God and how we share in his process of seeing that a rich harvest ensues. Sometimes doing God’s will means we may need to suffer to accomplish the good that God has in mind. When this happens do we complain? Paul invites us to consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing, compared with the glory to be revealed for us. Jesus builds on this theme when he speaks of the sower and the realities of the ministry we are called to partici- pate in. How many of us are concerned about the success of our works? Remember in the parable only ¼ of the seeds actually grow to maturity. If a college coach wins only ¼ of their ball games how long would he be kept as coach? Yet with Jesus, the issue isn’t how many grow, it is about the fruit of the few that do grow. We need to remember that life isn’t about the quantity but the quality. Next week’s readings: Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time How often do we rejoice when a person is punished for their evil deeds? How would we feel if the person to be punished were our son or daughter? The book of Wisdom informs us that God is master of might, yet he judges with clemency, and with much lenience he governs us. Are we as kind and concerned about those who do evil as God is? Remember it says, “those who are just must be kind.” How often do we see justice as kindness? Or kind- ness as a form of justice? The psalm reminds us that the Lord is good and forgiving. How good and forgiving are we? Have we ever wondered why God allows those who do evil to flourish and become wealthy and powerful, while the innocent seem to get ground down and abused? Jesus picks up on this scriptural theme when he speaks of the householder who states, “Let them grow together until harvest.” Jesus is more concerned about hurting the inno- cent by stepping in than he is the guilty. When we want the guilty punished swiftly how often does the innocent get caught in the net along with the guilty and perish as a result? Can we be patient and wait for God to deal with things or do we feel we need to take matters into our own hands to render what we consider to be justice? I can’t help but to remember the movie called The Ox-Bow Incident with Henry Fonda. When we rush to judgment we can often make mistakes. Isn’t it better to be patient and let God sort things out in the end?

Technology Corner Our Blessed Mother left for all Christians Fifteen Promises to those who recite the Holy Rosary. "Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces." Read more of Her promises at http://www.themostholyrosary.com/15promises.htm My favorite iphone app is Holy Rosary - Standard Edition by Joe Meineke. This app will play the daily rosary without any interaction from you. This means that I can pray while I wash dishes or while I drive to church. It makes it very convenient to get in your daily rosary. There is a version available for android also called Holy Rosary by Joe Meineke. Remember, Our Lady of Fatima said "Pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary to obtain peace in the world . . . for she alone can save it." (Our Lady, July 13, 1917) Ask the Pastor What is the difference between a and a and a and a sister?

Often the terms are used interchangeably with regards to members of a men’s religious community and likewise between women of a religious community members. There are typically specific differences. The terms monk or nun refers to members of monastic or cloistered communities. Those are religious communities that, as a whole, are called to withdraw from the world to pray for the world. Within the community they may refer to each other as brother or sister, respectively.

The terms brother or sister typically refer to community members who are not monastic or cloistered. That is, they are called to be active in the world to help transform the world.

There are four male communities, Dominicans, , , and whose members are also called . Often these four, and their offshoots, are called mendicant orders. Many communities are called congregations.

A is a member of a community or a solitary individual who has committed to live in isolation to allow more time for prayer.

The commitments to the religious community are called vows, like in a marriage, to the community. In most cases they include, poverty, chastity, and obedience. Some communities take additional vows such as permanence or obedience to the Bishop of Rome.

The individual communities often focus on specific ministries, such as being teachers, nurses, care for the poor, etc. Some male communities allow, or expect their members, to become or priests. pontifical representative – the representative (appointed by S the ) who is sent to foreign nations or to a national Church.
