SUPPLIES & TOOLS: • Tulip®: • Craft knife Soft® Fabric Paint -- Ebony 4 oz. • Pencil quoth banner Liquid Dye™ -- Purple • Needle & thread free Fabric Markers® -- Multi Fine 20 Pack • Iron • Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue® • 2 craft sponges

2 • 1/2 yard burlap fabric – light beige • Paper towels • 1/2” wooden dowel – approximately 20” long • Foam plate or foil for paint palette • Disposable plastic table cover • Container for water • Scissors • Edgar Allen Poe pattern • Disposable plastic container • Raven poem skill level • Craft black ravens for embellishment • Black marker pen • Freezer paper

DIRECTIONS: For best results, please read all instructions before beginning project. 1. Cover work surface with disposable plastic table cover. 2. Cut burlap fabric approximately 17”x27”. Dampen and lay out smooth on protected work surface. 3. Mix Purple dye as directed. Pour some into disposable plastic container and add some water to dilute the color. 4. Use sponge to dab color randomly on fabric, leaving some areas with natural color of fabric. 5. As dyed fabric begins to dry, pinch up areas of burlap and crease. Continue to allow to dry. 6. Let dye set for approximately 4-5 hours. Thoroughly rinse out until water runs clear. Dry and press if necessary. 7. Trace pattern on freezer paper. Carefully cut out using craft knife to create your stencil. 8. Position stencil on dyed burlap allowing approximately 2” extra fabric on top for dowel. Press in place using iron. Position eye and iron on. 9. Use sponge to pounce Ebony into silhouette. Let dry and remove stencil. 10. Paint dowel with Ebony. Allow to dry. 11. Fold top of fabric over creating a loop for dowel to slip through. Use needle and thread to stitch together. Insert dowel.

Using Black marker pen, begin writing the first verse of Poe’s famous Raven poem across banner. Refer to photo. 13. Dilute Ebony to a watercolor consistency and dip fingers into paint. Spatter across the banner. 14. Fray edges of burlap reserving threads. Tie threads on sides of dowel to embellish. Glue to dowel to keep in place. 15. Glue ravens to top of banner as needed to steady.
